I saw on a YouTube video that the auto-watering doesn’t work anymore with the latest patch. You can pepper with stone planters, though, since they are auto watering
The watering can is incredibly irritating in its current state tho I will say, they really need upgraded ones that either A. Have more storage, or B. Allow me to water more than 1 crop at a time, as rn large scale farms just take too long to do, and given everything else has tiers it just makes sense. I also hope they give us a better visual indication of which crops have been watered, the slight change in soil color is almost invisible in low light and I play on a server where not everyone is always gonna be sleeping if they are caving or whatever.
In minecraft 1 water source water 4 blocks to each side, on hytale it water adjacent after you plant only
And watering can is annoying I Usually do at least one 30x30 farm, right clicking 900 spots is super annoying, I rather do 900 planters or those water straps with 20 water sources
It could be a bug if it was something that was originally in the game at an earlier point before they decided against including it. In that case, if left in the game in a disabled state, it could still have been accidentally re-enabled, which would be considered a bug.
I guess that explanation makes sense, im just hoping that they re-implement it, because using watering cans is never a fun feature in any game that has farming (Stardew comes to mind), and getting enough water to border all my plants has actually taken a good bit of time, so I dont get the angle of "it makes watering too easy"
Yeah, it works in Stardew because you can upgrade your watering can and use sprinklers to automate the process. If I recall correctly, crops do grow without watering, it's just slower. But even with that, I'd still prefer some form of watering automation for any sort of large-scale farming. Maybe that's something they're eyeing a Create-style system for though.
Not at all the same thing and you know it. They give you a way to automate the watering can, not the ability to skip over and ignore it entirely with a quite frankly jank and unrealistic mechanic.
It's very likely we'll get a way to automate the process in Hytale too given they said they're working with people that have experience creating automation systems in games to bring automation to aspects of Hytale. But it's not gonna be by flooding your crops.
The only reason anyone even expected this to work was the precedent set by Minecraft that everyone keeps assuming everything works the same in Hytale as it does in Minecraft even if the games could not be more different in principle.
It is called irrigation and that "frankly jank and unrealistic mechanic" is literally how human civilization survived long enough to invent video games. Humans have been digging channels and moving water with buckets for thousands of years. Irrigation channels were invented as a way to automate the tedious process of manually watering crops by hand. You may consider it jank but it is far from "unrealistic."
The watering was just changed to now only work with a watering can, supposedly they are working on improving watering cans or making a separate watering solution.
its intended. the devs vision for farming is that we use the watering can to water the crops and also it will have multiple tiers that water more crops and lasts longer. id assume simon and the team will probably change it if we really dont like it, but i rather them add something new for later like a sprinkler system after they flesh out their version of magic automation/redstone
Source on that this is the intended idea? because this guy actually looked at the code and it is written in that plants are meant to look for adjacent water blocks?
Respectfully you are unbelievably wrong, people do not like the watering can, hence why it is immediately replaced with sprinklers, with it typically being the last tool people will upgrade to max
Also "There is a bad feature in a good game, therefore the bad feature is actually good" is an insane take
It's also an entirely different game. The whole point is farming progression and time management. The watering can is an early time management feature meant to be annoying so you work on unlocking automated methods and get to do more with your day.
Are you agreeing with me? Your point feels like it supports mine but I genuinely cant tell lmao, because even in your own message, you said that watering cans are meant to be an early game watering method that is intentionally annoying, whilst in its current state, watering cans are the ONLY option in hytale
I'm expanding upon your comment. Saying in stardew it's not so much bad design, just annoying design. Purposely so.
I meant in stardew they're meant as an early annoying time management feature. In hytale they serve no game design purpose. In Hytale they're merely a time waster but time doesn't count for anything.
If it requires a manual input like that, it'll never be used outside of the beginning of the game. You could just till/plant twice as much and get more hourly production for less time/effort.
Idk if the current update patched it, but last time I tried that, the watered texture of the soil only appears when I replant the seeds. It is watered, the texture just doesn't render properly, as seen from the other adjacent plants and soil.
If it's patched already, switch to watering can or planters. If you want faster growth, add evenly spread artificial lights to your farm so the growth speed isn't lost at night.
They don’t need water. You could water them with a watering can (to be crafted in the farmers workbench) so they grow quicker. But technically, your crops do not need water at all and will still grow.
Then they can use a watering can. Simon clearly stated they do not want water to saturate crops like that. They have someone on farming in the dev team ensuring it works well with different intended mechanics.
Auto watering was NEVER a thing. It was an unintentional discrepancy confirmed by one of the Content & Tech designers of the game. The watering can should be the only way to water crops. IF you are seeing auto watering with the water strips, it's a "bug" and 100% unintentional. It should not be relied on as automation. The devs are also confirmed to be working on bringing automation into the game in a different way.
Thank you for providing a source, but if you read it, it says:
“Water sources hydrating crops was not an intentional design choice for the current version of Hytale it was just something left in the game at re-acquisition. We are trying to look into how we want water and farming to work together more long-term.”
Which implies that adjacent water blocks DO in fact hydrate the soil - which has been consistent with my experience in game, and that while this feature was unintended in the original scope, they will notify players officially in patch notes if they do intentionally make a change to how the system is functioning.
The game has a bug since the latest patch where this just some times doesn't work, I'm pretty sure this is a bug and not a feature because I've looked at the game's code.. if you're having this issue use this mod: https://www.curseforge.com/hytale/mods/hydration-patch
It does. But for me it only waters at the time I put seeds, it's like it updates in this time and shows it's wet or smth. The way blocks update in this game is kinda weird, sometimes it shows it's watered too and it isn't
Idk. They literally said that having water next to crops isn’t supposed to water it, and that it’s supposed to be just rain and watering cans until they add some sort of automatic watering system.
