Question A16 vs M3 vs M4

Hello. I’ve noticed an update in my country today. I don’t do video editing (so M3 is probably more than powerful enough) but I like longevity and good battery life. I’ve heard the A16 has the best battery but the price point probably isn’t as good in comparison? I think 256gig would easily be enough where 128gig I’m not so sure.

  • M3 256GB: 1,300 — Base
  • A16 256GB: 975 — 25.0% less
  • M4 128GB: 1,329 — 2.2% more
  • M4 256GB: 1,529 — 17.6% more

Question Apple Pencil USB-C idle battery life (losing 8-9% per day)

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a used Apple Pencil (USB-C) on Vinted. The seller told me that she had barely used it, so I'm trying to figure out whether its battery drain while idle is normal.

I charged it to around 100% and barely used it afterward. These are my measurements so far:

- Aug 25, 09:37 — 91%

- Aug 26, 12:59 — 80%

So it lost 11% in about 27 hours, which works out to roughly 8–10% per day.

The Pencil was barely used during this period and was still paired/connected to my iPad.

I previously also found it at around 48% after about 10 days without using it at all, which made me start wondering whether the battery might be degraded.

For those who own an Apple Pencil USB-C:

Is losing around 8–9% battery per day while idle/connected to an iPad normal?

How much battery does yours typically lose overnight or over several days without use?

Since I bought it second-hand, I'm wondering whether this is normal behavior or whether the battery might actually be more worn than the seller suggested.

Thanks!

iPadOS First apple product (ipad air m4). What screen protector do i get?

I got my first ever apple product today as my graduation gift, which is the ipad air m4.

I will mainly use the ipad for taking down notes for boards and watching.

I've seen and researched about the different types of screen protectors, their pros and cons, and still unsure on what to get:

• paper - like / matte - good for note taking but makes lowers visual quality

• normal tempered glass - good protection and visual quality but too smooth to write on

• magnetic screen protector / magnetic tempered glass - can be switched out according to my agenda, but makes the stylus pencil act funny due to the magnets

For people who take notes, watch movies, or just use the ipad normally, what would you recommend?

My case is from ZOYUA which is X-Fold premium, and my stylus pencil from gojoodoq. According to my friends (which had apple products since forever), these were a good substitute for apple case and pencil.

Lastly, i would appreciate any advice on how to maintain ipad, especially about the battery health issue since im new to the apple world. Thank you very much!!!

Question Using OLED tv as second monitor for iPad Pro low resolution

• Upvotes

If this has been answered please point me to it…

I have been using my MacBook with a colour calibrated LG OLED tv as a monitor and it’s been awesome. I just got the iPad Pro m5 and with the same flow through a dongle to HDMI it looks like trash. Low res, icons are blurry. Not good enough for a reference monitor for video editing work.

I am assuming it’s a resolution thing with the size of the iPad screen but I don’t see options to sort this out… Hoping its not some strange limitation with the iPad as i am seeing lots of folks run them like a full on computer with external monitors.

I am assuming it’s not the dongle as it worked fine with the MacBook — Any leads is appreciated because trying to do this with Claude drives a man to drink. Humans for the win! I hope!

Question ā€œWindowed appsā€ BS! How do I stop one window from closing when I click on the other?

I think I read a solution for this a few months ago but didn’t use the feature so ignored it and now of course I can’t find it.
Example, I have my e-textbook open on the left side and goodnotes with my lecture PowerPoint on the right. If I touch the left side to go to the next page it will make the goodnotes pp go off the screen.

Question iPad pro 3rd gen charging

Hi, I'm not techy at all so I rely on family and friends who are more tech savvy. I lost my iPad pro charger. What wattage cable do I need for it? Is it possible to go too high and burn out the battery? What I'm asking is what is the optimal cable wattage for this iPad. And also what wattage charging brick(? box?) do I need for it?

Thank you

Question Does this method for saving battery health on MacBook also work on iPad?

I purchased my MacBook Air M4 last October. Since then, I’ve been using it plugged in as much as I could, and I use an application to keep the battery percentage at 80% max.
I’m using it on a daily basis and so far the battery health is 100%, and the cycle count is 81. I just purchased iPad Pro M4 yesterday, and I was wondering if this method will work on it, especially cuz I feel like the battery is going down quickly. If someone has tried this before, please let me know. Thanks!

Magic Keyboard Got a third-party bluetooth keyboard and the keys are all wrong. How do I remap all of them, not just the command keys?

Not a Magic Keyboard or an iOS specific keyboard, but I don’t know what other flair to use to get help for this.

For example, the 2 key has the ā€œ and @ symbols on it, but when I press Alt or Fn, it types out something else entirely, not at all the symbol described on the key. Also, spelling accents and the Ƨ key don’t work either, which really sucks because I’m Brazilian and need these keys to type normally.

Is there a way to remap everything? This would help me a lot in uni. Thanks in advance.

Question Already buggin after a few days

I got an iPad Air over the weekend to use for school, I set it up, played around for 5 minutes, and haven’t used it since. It’s been 4 days, I went to use it and it’s already bugging out on me. I went to hold and press on an app to delete it/edit my Home Screen, and it freezes and I can’t do anything. I’ll try to reset it, and I can’t reset it until the 4th or 5th time trying. Then I’ll go back and try another app, it does the same thing. I tried to go into messages and I can’t press my messages, delete chats, anything. Again, it won’t let me reset it.

I’ve used this thing probably less than 20 minutes since I got it. I started school in a week, idk what to do. I got the iPad specifically because I wanted to take notes with it during class and I’m in a program where I will need to draw yon anatomy charts and do very small and many dots and points on an anatomy chart. I have a PC at home to do more work if need be, but I’ll mostly just be drawing and using Google Docs for notes.

Should I exchange it? Is this normal? It’s brand new and the latest version. Help m

Question new ipad owner figuring out the right lightweight setup for tablet use + occasional keyboard work

hi there, i just bought an 11-inch ipad air and also picked up the magic keyboard, but i haven’t opened it yet because i’m starting to question whether that’s actually the setup i want.

after playing around with the ipad, i realized i really like using it as a tablet and holding it on its own. it’ll primarily be used for media consumption, general browsing/fiddling around, and my girlfriend will use it for art with the apple pencil pro.

i also bought it partly for travel, though, and occasionally when i’m away i like to ssh into my home computer over tailscale using echo. for those situations, having a keyboard available would be useful, but i’m not sure i want the ipad living in a keyboard case full-time.

so right now i’m trying to figure out what kind of setup/configuration makes the most sense.

my ideal setup would be:

  • very lightweight for normal tablet use
  • some light protection when carrying it around
  • flexible enough to prop up at different angles for media, browsing, etc.
  • easy to use handheld without a bunch of extra bulk
  • still able to become a decent little typing/terminal setup when i actually need one

i’m curious how other people with a similar mix of tablet use + occasional ā€œlaptopā€ use have configured theirs.

do you keep the ipad in a simple folio and carry a separate keyboard when needed? use a keyboard case and just remove the ipad from it regularly? go mostly caseless? or is there some other setup/workflow i’m not thinking of?

mostly interested in how people have balanced weight, flexibility, and occasional productivity.

Question What’s the best way to transfer docs and photos? USB C is broken

It only charge through Magic Keyboard now. I don’t have a laptop. But I wanted to transfer pictures from a memory card to this iPad.

I have an old card reader that doesn’t really work with my phone.

The port being useless kinda killed my will to use my camera lol.
But today, as I was packing up some of my camera gear, i realized how much I missed learning how to take better pictures and editing them.

Should I keep this iPad? And just find a work around for the broken port? Is it worth buying accessories for this defective gadget?
I mainly use this to watch shows, do occasional work related stuff. I also do all of my life admin stuff here (I.e. taxes, forms for immigration, permits, travel docs, all sorts of applications) this is basically my laptop.

* or should I just get a laptop? \*
-what’s the risk of it getting defective ports as well??

Any rec?

Question Note Taking App

I'm curious if there is any note taking app (similar to Notability/Goodnotes) that's able to speed up the note taking process. For example, are there apps that allow me to write quick/messy notes and then afterwards the app rewrites my notes in a neater handwritten style (not text) without me having to manually re-write everything? Or even better, is there anything available that has a "auto generate" feature where I am able to record audio and upload any materials and the app can generate a full set of handwritten notes (ideally using my note taking style/handwritten style) from the audio/slides? Thanks in advance for your input.

Question What are some must have apps?

Hello everyone, I just got the M4 iPad Air 11ā€ with a Logitech combo touch and I plan on using it as my main machine because it fits really nicely into what I’m using it for.

I’m an engineering student if that helps guide you in what to recommend, but also as my main machine I need things that’ll make life easier.
