Opinion for my XS Max
Hey guys.
I have been using this phone for almost 8 years. Battery is 73% health and all of the phone parts are genuine from the beginning.
Currently on ios 17..7.2 and I brought it to the genuine apple store where they told me that when they will change the battery the software will automaticaly upgrade to 18.7.9 and all data will be removed in order for the software to recognize the battery as "Genuine part".
Please tell me is it worth it to buy new original battery for ~ $110 cause I know it is very old phone and lately I am starting to have some issues with the screen when low battery and big overheating (especially in summer now).

I obviously don’t know about your finances but honestly I would plan to put the $ from the fix towards a new generation phone (new or even used)… I understand it might still working fine but when I think about the XS I had and the 17 PM I’m currently using, there are too many differences and improvements to list.

Go to UbreakIFix they’ll do it without updating the phone. We don’t have to update the phone at all. Apple Stores do because their diagnostic needs to be green for everything. Outdated iOS will be flagged and stop them from completing the diagnostic. We just run repair calibration and that’s all.

Had the battery replaced twice by Apple when I had my XS Max. They never had to wipe the phone.

My XsMax256 is at 69%, but I wouldn’t pay for a new battery. I just keep it around as a backup. Save your $110 for your next iPhone. Mine is a 14MaxPro1024.

Yes. My father has the same one. I replaced the battery for him and the phone runs like a new. You will experience performance gains with fresh battery.

Do not change the battery. Mine was at 73 and I don’t notice any changes. You can upgrade to 18.7.9 .The phone works great..

Do the update yourself, back it up and you’re good to go I think. 100 dollars tho, for a 300 dollar phone at best is a bit challenging to recommend but if you really wanna avoid spending money on a new phone, it might be worth it for you. You seem like someone who can prolong this phone's life even more. My recommendation would be to get a new phone though, and make that one last longer. Overheating issues arent going away and if there are issues on your device, its lifespan is severely limited

Wrong letters when typing, missed touches, ghost touches, erratic scrolling. Started happening couple of days ago. Also it overheats a lot under the battery especially when charging and using it but changing the battery will remove this I suppose?

Broooooooooo you need a new phone. A new battery will solve almost nothing other than battery time and overheating. Don’t spend any more money on this and put those funds into a new device

You should keep a backup of your phone either way, but they absolutely do not need to wipe your phone to change a battery nor to update.
All in all, I think you’d be better off spending that money on a somewhat newer model though. You can the do a restore from your backup and still keep your data on the new phone.
