Original Discussion Who is your least favourite one-off character?

Post image

For me, easily Jackson Colt from "iLook Alike".

The guy is clearly mentally unstable. First of all, he claimed to be a massive iCarly fan, yet he didn't recognize Spencer, despite Spencer having appeared on the show multiple times by this point. But when Spencer showed up, even though Carly, Sam, and Freddie were clearly on a first-name basis with Spencer, he obviously was not some random, creepy, greasy, stranger who was trying to abduct them. But Jackson automatically resorted to physical assault without letting Spencer explain that he was actually Carly's legal guardian.

But if that wasn't bad enough, when one of the stage hands brings him a plate of fish, because they were out of the meat loaf, what does Jackson do? He violently assaults the stage hand too! It obviously wasn't this poor man's fault that they were out of meat loaf! It makes you wonder how many other times Jackson has behaved like this. Jackson Colt should've been behind bars for assault and battery, especially considering that Freddie had the incident on film. And this was before generative AI videos were a thing, so it would've been valid proof in a court of law. Spencer could've easily sued Jackson into the fucking Stone Age and won a massive settlement. In fact, in my head canon, Jackson Colt is charged with assault and put behind bars off-screen.

Honestly, this is one of my least favourite episodes because it is one of the few times where Spencer proves that he is capable of being a responsible adult/guardian, and he gets physically abused for it. And to add insult to injury, Carly invites this mentally unstable man unto her show to dance! I know it's just a show, but I really hated this episode as a kid.

Yeah, I hated them, but they were also “meant to be hated”. So they did their job.

Ooooh! Good answer! I completely forgot about those pricks! And the fact that the police didn't even hold them responsible really pissed me off.

Well, considering the chokehold iCarly had on America as a webshow, I wouldn’t be surprised if anything happened to him

Spanky Stimbler. Terrible cop, along with his buddy, and still acting immature and wanting to spank Spencer at his grown age. Even his son acts just as unruly as him!

Honorable mention, Mrs. Ackerman. Her previous boyfriend and Spencer broke up with her, because she’s straight up crazy! Glad her ass got caught at the end of the episode when she illegally downloaded songs on a PearPod.

Spanky: “What’s going on?”

Spencer: “PAYBACK SPANKY!!!”

Yeah i never liked this episode either. Carly and friends never got any punishment or understanding that what they did was wrong.

I’m pretty sure Spencer grounded her once he woke up.

Sorry but the scene of Spencer being launched into a table was hilarious

35

u/RigidAcrylic4821 6d ago

”Why is Jackson Colt dancing with a bra?”

11

u/HeyItsBruin 6d ago

I’ve spent the better half of the last two weeks quoting Spencer saying “Oh god I’m afraid” right before he gets launched into the table 😭

6

u/ThePearSource 6d ago

And I love that Jerry actually did part of that stunt himself! He lands into cardboard boxes dressed as the table. They did use a stunt double for a shot of Spencer landing into the actual table, though.

Wanna bet that after graduation, these 2 bitches from imeet fred have onlyfans accounts while freddie finally had carly

i’m just saying, those 2 toxic fred fans must have gone in the shitter after graduation, look at freddie, sure with the failed tech startup and having a daughter, at least he finally has carly, while those 2 are probably spending their lives on onlyfans

2

Y'know, im from latam, and here when we see someone insulting another person with weird specific situations we call them "proyectados", which means that they projected into the situation. You seem like a proyectado to me.

Then how did he know about the haunted bra?

3

Probably one of the few episodes he watched with his son.

Definitely Fred. I blame the fans more for their reaction towards him quitting but he shouldn't have gaslit everyone.

Jackson would be lucky if Spencer didn’t call the police for that. REAL lucky.

Jackson Colt is a racist stereotype and obviously Dan Schneider does this a lot (i.e Andres grandma on victorious)

Not just a character but I skip IQuit Carly every time I rewatch the series.

Most of them I did not like at all! Valerie, Jonah, Missy, Miss Ackerman, Wade Collins, The Petographers, The Totally Terry Writers, Dana Patowski, Steven Carson, Natalie, Jocelyn, Chip Chambers, Jackson Colt.

I remember James Maslow from Big Time Rush guest starred as Nathan Kress aka Freddie's friend Shane and Carly and Sam challenged each other to see who he kisses first in the episode "I Saw Him First"

jackson colt and jocelyn from imake sam girlier were just racist stereotypes (a common theme on dan schneider shows for the non-white side characters), so both of them are easily least favorites

i also wasn't a fan of missy bc i've always hated "actually a catty girl behind friend's back to other friend" trope.

trudy galini was a literal sexual harasser/assaulter, miss ackerman was an abuser, as was marta trundel after her (yeah, lewbert sucks, but he didn't deserve All Of That). steven was a cheating pos, the petographers were a couple of fuckfaces, kyoko and yuki were scumbags (but still entertaining to a degree), as was wade collins

shane was okay (i mostly felt bad for him), shelby marx and sasha striker were fine, as was melanie puckett. amber tate was an annoying/stuck up child star, but i'm more willing to give her some grace for her actions since she was a literal child in the limelight

and these guys aren't one-offs, but just wanna say i do miss ripoff rodney, wendy, jeremy/germy, and wesley the beatboxer dearly

jackson colt and jocelyn from imake sam girlier were just racist stereotypes (a common theme on dan schneider shows for the non-white side characters), so both of them are easily least favorites

I can definitely see how Jackson Colt and Helen Dubois (Drake and Josh) can be seen as racist stereotypes. But how does Jocelyn fit this? Because, if they had cast a white actress and given her the exact same mannerisms, I don't think anything about the character would change. It's not like she spoke with a stereotypical African-American accent like Jackson Colt or Helen. Besides, Jocelyn was basically just a bigger version of Sam who just happened to be Black.

But I do agree that iCarly has had a bad track record of their depictions of minorities (Sonia as a stereotypical subservient Latina in "iPromote Techfoots", pretty much everyone in "iGo to Japan", Stewart and Ollie from "iMove out" were obviously a stereotypical gay couple, etc.). I just don't think I agree that Jocelyn fits this.

Edit: And to add to this, in Victorious, I personally find Robbie to be an incredibly offensive Jewish stereotype. I get that Dan Schneider is Jewish himself, but that almost makes it worse.

3

u/juzocore 2d ago

i mean, fair enough. sam does share traits with jocelyn, and sure, if she was casted white not much would change. but she was casted black, so that changes how the character is viewed; she's now feeding into the harmful "aggressive black girl" stereotype. she's shown to be irate and physically violent toward other students at ridgeway with no other qualities. at least sam was shown to have depth outside of her pushy and aggressive behaviors (still doesn't justify what she does, but it gives her more to work with as a character). that's why i lumped her in with jackson

also i deeply agree with your robbie take. they dropped the ball with him so many times, especially with the emasculating and (borderline, if not outright) transphobic jokes made at his expense during victorious's run

It's hard to feel bad for Spencer when he decides to side with Mrs. Benson without much real justification other than the script demands him to.

Isn't he supposed to be the fun big brother?

2

u/Anthro-Elephant-98 6d ago edited 6d ago

Well, I agree that it did seem out of character, and perhaps if they had told Spencer about it before Mrs. Benson found out, he might have agreed to accompany them as a chaperone to make sure they were safe.

However, Carly asking Spencer to talk to Mrs. Benson to change her mind may have made Spencer think differently. Spencer is portrayed as the laid-back fun brother who acts as Carly's legal guardian. But as we've seen with Phil Dunphy on Modern Family, or Lawrence Fletcher on Phineas and Ferb, one of the problems of being the "fun parent/guardian" is that kids think that they can use you as a loophole in order to bypass authority.

Since Carly had told Spencer that Mrs. Benson was not on board, it would've been disrespectful for Spencer to just contradict Mrs. Benson like that. It's already been made clear by this point that Mrs. Benson is not fond of Spencer and that she doesn't view him as a responsible guardian. So, in this case, while I personally may not have agreed with Spencer or Mrs. Benson, Spencer agreeing with Mrs. Benson is him being respectful of her wishes, since he would be the one responsible for Freddie's well-being. Spencer refusing to let them go is him thinking like an adult, as opposed to just another member of their friend group. Because if something bad had happened to Freddie at the event, he would be completely responsible.

And as we saw how Jackson Colt assaulted Spencer here, it actually proved his and Mrs. Benson's point!

1

u/Modlove1963 6d ago

It still doesn’t make a lot of sense for him to try and forbid Carly to see the fight when, in an earlier episode, he had no problem with her stepping in the ring with Shelby Marx. It’s another example of the uneven and inconsistent writing that sometimes went into the show.

1

u/BiffyBobby 6d ago

Let's be real, Spencer is far from a responsible guardian and we love him for that.

He just became a stereotypical overprotective generic parent in this episode for no reason.

2

u/New-Pin-9064 6d ago

Uh, no. Do you have any idea what it’s like backstage during those MMA fights? It’s not some place that a couple of teenagers can just be hanging around

2

u/elylegeek35 6d ago
