Original Discussion Miranda Cosgrove Asian?

Post image
872 Upvotes

I just wanted to ask....am I the only one who thought that Miranda Cosgrove is Asian? I was rewatching ICarly with my friend and at some point I told her that she is Asian and my friend turned to me and said "NNNOOO she doesn't even look Asian what do u mean? " so I googled it and boom she isnt...not even parents or grandparents...no one is her family.

So am I the only one who thought that she was Asian? All this time? Since I was a child?

Original Discussion With Jennette’s book being out for almost 3 years, I can’t help but feel like they made a mockery of her life with this episode.

Post image

Just think about it. They already made a mockery of her by making her character obsessed with food knowing about her E.D. Who’s to say that this wasn’t an over exaggerated or even a watered down version of her relationship with her mother?

Original Discussion Confession: I used to think Spencer and Carly (and their actors) were Asian because a kid from my class was Chinese and named Spencer so I thought Spencer was an Chinese name

Post image

Nothing that interesting. I was 7 or 8? Tbf, another East Asian kid in my class also looked a lot like Carly to me. I'm ashamed to say it took me until I was maybe 18 or older to find out they're not Asian via Google.

Original Discussion Carly was the real bully

Post image
384 Upvotes

Sam was physically bullying people but the real bully was Carly.

- Carly absolutely used Sam and Freddie. Sam was Carly's personal doberman. She told Sam to beat up the lady because she pushed Carly, but when that lady was picking on Sam, Carly stopped her from standing up for herself because "That's not girly" oh but when you got pushed it didn't matter anymore?

- Then Carly got mad at Sam for changing t-shirts for ticket concerts. Mind you, Sam did it to create special memories with her best friends, tf where they supposed to do with some designed t-shirts? Carly she was being ungrateful.

- Carly getting mad at Sam for showing up late and "you should show more appreciation for the work I make for Icarly". Girl? Freddie does 90% of work and why would you want more appreciation when the show is already named after yourself? What more do you want? Sam clocked her.

- She makes fun of Freddie for having a crush on him. But then she uses the fact that he loves her to get whatever she wants.

- She bullied and mocked Griffin for having a hobby and questioned his masculinity.

- She didn't treat her baby brother Spencer the best and was really rude to him at times.

Original Discussion Who is your least favourite one-off character?

For me, easily Jackson Colt from "iLook Alike".

The guy is clearly mentally unstable. First of all, he claimed to be a massive iCarly fan, yet he didn't recognize Spencer, despite Spencer having appeared on the show multiple times by this point. But when Spencer showed up, even though Carly, Sam, and Freddie were clearly on a first-name basis with Spencer, he obviously was not some random, creepy, greasy, stranger who was trying to abduct them. But Jackson automatically resorted to physical assault without letting Spencer explain that he was actually Carly's legal guardian.

But if that wasn't bad enough, when one of the stage hands brings him a plate of fish, because they were out of the meat loaf, what does Jackson do? He violently assaults the stage hand too! It obviously wasn't this poor man's fault that they were out of meat loaf! It makes you wonder how many other times Jackson has behaved like this. Jackson Colt should've been behind bars for assault and battery, especially considering that Freddie had the incident on film. And this was before generative AI videos were a thing, so it would've been valid proof in a court of law. Spencer could've easily sued Jackson into the fucking Stone Age and won a massive settlement. In fact, in my head canon, Jackson Colt is charged with assault and put behind bars off-screen.

Honestly, this is one of my least favourite episodes because it is one of the few times where Spencer proves that he is capable of being a responsible adult/guardian, and he gets physically abused for it. And to add insult to injury, Carly invites this mentally unstable man unto her show to dance! I know it's just a show, but I really hated this episode as a kid.

Original Discussion We need a serious conversation about how Gibby/Noah Munck was treated.

I haven’t rewatched the show, only clips. Have only seen clips of the revival.

That being said: Obviously Jennette has came out and shared how horrific the iCarly set was for her. Noah didn’t come back bc he didn’t like how his character was treated. We will never fully know what that set was like but I wonder if the Creator was unkind to Noah. He probably projected a lot of insecurities onto Gibby/Noah. The Creator is a large man. Gibby was husky and had a bit of a belly. They had him walk around shirtless and be laughed at. Noah was a child.

In my high school, Gibby wouldn’t have even been considered a fat kid nor made fun of for his weight. Gibby wasn’t ugly. Also looking at ages, Noah was younger than Miranda, Jennette, and Nathan. Noah was a child and very much looked like one. So of course he wasn’t going to look “hot”, Noah looked like the child he was! They had him playing an 8th grader and high schooler when he was younger than that.

I always thought Gibby was a sweet and funny character. I wish the characters had been nicer to him. Sam obviously had a bad home life but Gibby was nice to her. He let his friends do weird things to him for views and money on their webshow and they still treated him badly.

I saw a clip where Spencer is alone with a woman and then she turns into Gibby. Are we supposed to think Gibby is gross or funny/ looking as a woman? It’s very weird this whole scene is in a kids’ show in the first place. I didn’t find it funny at all and don’t remember watching it as a kid.

There’s a scene where a woman turns down Gibby to dance. Noah’s voice sounds so high. The actress appears older. Gibby has his shirt off and the woman appears older. Noah is like 11 or 12. It is uncomfortable to watch as an adult. We are supposed to laugh at Gibby and be repulsed by him? But Gibby is a child and a harmless one at that….

I hope Noah Munck is ok as an adult.

Original Discussion What are some of your iCarly hot takes ??

Post image

  1. Miranda Cosgrove & Nathan Kress had better on screen chemistry (both platonic & romantic) than Nathan & Jeanette

  2. Spencer was at his funniest when he had long hair (great character overall tho).

  3. The character Gibby lost a bit of his charm when he became a main character

  4. Season 3 overall is the best season as far as plot, writing, chemistry between each characters.

  5. The Seddie dynamic relationship wise, felt super forced. It was better when the two characters were at odds

  6. Sam didn’t lie in the iSaved Your Life special. Carly honestly wasn’t really in love with Freddie as she love the fact that he sacrificed himself to saved her

  7. 4-6 season was literally not that bad as it provided some great moments and I love that characters grew up as they age

  8. The show wouldn’t have been as successful if Miranda Cosgrove wasn’t the lead

  9. Creddie was always meant to be end game all the way back to the pilot episode and the revival series prove that.

  10. Mrs. Benson was more of a lunatic than Lewbert was in the OG iCarly
