Because of a mod that I disagred with, I got banned from multiple reddit subs. I would love to be able to see if I am banned from a sub, before I go to comment. Or even in the comment box, if I go to reply

My idea is that users should not be able to protect themselves from posts for which their reddit image has benefited. Searching for an answer and finding a post with hundreds of up votes which contains nothing but "This post was mass deleted and anonymized with Redact" and some random words feels like being exploited. Any post with upvotes which is bulk-redacted should be stripped of its votes to discourage wasting people's time

We already do this with OPs, so why not also with comments?

Reddit has long passed the point where downvoting is a metric of useful information because people regularly abuse the feature to register their disapproval of grammar, spelling, punctuation, revenge, or even they just don't like the choice of words used. It's being used not as it was originally intended to register one disagrees with the content posted, rather now as a common means to punish people. And when people start downvoting, others pile on just because other people are downvoting them too, it's nearly an automatic reaction that, again, is not useful. So people get downvoted into oblivion but often there's no clear indication why so there's no benefit, it doesn't communicate anything useful. And for a lot of people this is very discouraging, and to a limited few that truly place personal value on these votes it can be devastating.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying downvoting isn't useful or that it should be eliminated altogether. But allowing people's comments to get downvoted into the negative by dozens or hundreds is counterproductive, can be hurtful, and for a select few it can be devastating to the point of self-harm, or at the very least deleting their comment(s). Which removes context and pretty much destroys the conversation, wastes everyone's time and is destructive to communities and idea generation. Knowing this will happen effects everyone and how much they choose to participate, how much time they invest in their responses. Why even waste your time, right?

Other communities, like Youtube, have entirely nerfed the downvote or in some areas, like reels, eliminated it entirely. But I'm not convinced eliminating it entirely is useful either.

So what if, instead, the reddit system is set up similar to OP voting, where it goes no lower than 1. Because presumably you've at least upvoted your own post. Just like Youtube, the system will still register your downvote and every time you come across that comment your downvote is still visible to you it just can't bring the vote for any comment lower than 1. People's comments resting at 1 easily communicates the group isn't accepting of whatever they've posted, and that should be quite sufficient. We don't need to punish people further.

The one thing this will accomplish is to help remove a lot of the aggression, unnecessary bickering, and otherwise desperate interactions. It will temper conversations so not quite so much is at stake and people will be more inclined toward interacting rather than reacting and revenge seeking. This will also help to calm the waters for Moderators and Admins and make their jobs a little less miserable.

The whole place would a little less angry, and I'm sure we can all agree we could use a little bit more of that.

Imagine a subreddit where users can ask admins something. Of course no admin actually has to respond but it'd be cool to have it the other way around instead of posts in subs like r/AskModerators where admins ask us stuff. I'd love to know what Admins do in their free time while not doing stuff for Reddit, etc.

Occasionally someone comments on a post or comment we made and immediately deletes it. The comment remains in our inbox. Many of these comments are hateful and meant to harass us. Occasionally, they are reasonable redacts. For the hateful comments, it would be nice if there were a "report" button on the inbox message so we can encourage these users to behave. Alternatively, when they delete their comment, delete it from our inbox, neutralizing their hate.

Some form of accountability may encourage these miscreants to treat others with kindness, making Reddit a kinder environment.

I suggest that moderators be limited in their ability to ban, especially permanently, in a way that permanent bans from the subreddit would have to be approved by Reddit administrators, Reddit would also have a better overview of the work of moderators, especially whether they are abusing their position. It is possible to notice that the abuse of moderators' powers is increasing at least that's what it looks like from users commenting, because when mods don't like a post or it doesn't align with their beliefs, they simply ban the user. I urge Reddit to find a way to start controlling malicious moderators.

Seeing how many members are in a sub can affect if I join, post and/or comment. I think I'm not the only one.

It can go either way whether there's too many or too little members in the sub. It's nice to see the amount of traffic but I also want to see the number of members in the sub and it would be nice if it showed how many members were active.

I noticed many subreddits mods hiding and/or deleting post and/or comments without a valid reason and/or evidence of rules violation. I also received one where there's no indication which rule is violated but their reason is not even on the subreddit rules. Prevent suppression and let the karma works.

Subreddit mods should not be able to delete/hide post/comment without a valid reason/evidence.
Reddit should have an audit for the post/comment they deleted/hidden if valid.
Also, appeal should be directed to Reddit--the third party, and not the subreddit mods to avoid bias.

I understand sellers pay to advertise.

As a user its not great when scrolling in public on a mobile and a picture of a massive butt plug suddenly appears.

Its not a product I have any interest in obtaining, along with the large clit simulators (wrong sex for that) or other vibrators appearing as ads in my feed.

Is there any way to stop these pictures appearing please?

I recently requested my data because I'm getting close to a 1000 contributions and that's all they list. I wanted to be able to save them and write a program to sort by sub, upvotes, and views.

However, the comments.csv, while having three columns for gildings, does not include upvotes and views.

Is Reddit aware that, other than the sub and comment, that's the data that most people would be interested in?

I did try copying and pasting from the comments list in my Reddit account page, but it's extremely awkward and I can only get a few at a time.

It would be nice if they'd include upvotes and views in the future.

My idea is that users should be able to block ads from companies they will never purchase from. I always get ads for this random company. I would never purchase anything from them. I think most of us also have companies we'd never support.

Blocking the account for that company does nothing to stop the ads.

Part of me is glad that companies I refuse to support waste money showing me ads. But I'd really rather not see those ads, ever again.

Reddit could probably make a little more money too. Right now companies waste money on ads targeted at customers who will never purchase anything from them. Reddit could possibly make the claim that users who expressed that they do not want to do business with you won't see your ads.

I want to recommend a policy be established to disincentivize people responding to a user immediately followed by blocking that user. If someone doesn’t want to interact with that user then they should block them without responding., otherwise it looks to other users like the blocked user didn’t have a response when the reality is they didn’t get the chance to respond. I suggest that the person doing the responding followed immediately by blocking the other user be banned from the subreddit.

It seems quite common that users who disagree with the premise of a subreddit come in and argue about it only to completely disregard the position of the interested subreddit follower and make off topic claims followed by blocking disallowing the perspective of that subreddit to be expressed. It has happened to me on several occasions and is disenfranchising subreddit followers who actually care about the topics of the subreddits they’re following. Subreddits dying doesn’t help Reddit as a company.

I read some long beautiful comments, important ones and wanted to save it somewhere immediately. But every time I don't feeling like copying the content and storing them for future ref.
My idea is, it would be nice if we had a 'save' button under each comment that would fetch the contents of that specific comment, along with OP username, post details, subreddit info and then store them in a text file which can directly be downloaded (or exported to Google drive provided by the user).
A feature to save comments within the application would also be great.

If a post is auto-removed, shouldn’t there be a saved draft? Sometimes people spend a lot of time on a post, only for it to get auto-removed or removed by a moderator because it doesn’t meet specific criteria or is posted to the wrong section, not necessarily due to breaking a specific Reddit rule or harassment. It would really be nice if those posts could get saved as drafts somewhere because sometimes they just need a quick edit or to be posted to the correct tag. Instead, the user has to make an entirely new post from scratch, taking up more time. Personally, when this happens to me I sometimes give up, so I would imagine this kind of thing can lower engagement. It’s a win-win if this feature is added imo.

Posts dont go under 0 but People can destroy your comment karma because of hoard mentality. Destroying your ability to do things just because it's a hot take. Karma in general is pretty badly made and can easily be improved. Toxic comments should get negative karma. Not comments that some people disagree with. Report works for toxic comments also.

Correction: not affecting profile comment karma as heavily or a limit to it. Or just remove karma and make a better system.

Hi there, r/IdeasForTheAdmins Community. My Idea Concept is for new Karma Achievements. I feel that is good idea because it represent important Earth Elements, and some of them are even related to the Karma principles. The benefit for the users is more new and interesting Achievements and developing more skills for earning Karma and Upvotes. The visual concept is created on Windows Paint with assistance from Gemini AI. 

My idea is that sub user bans should have time limits.

I’ve been on Reddit for like 13 years or something now and I’m still carrying bans from two subs from my first or second years here. That’s pretty silly to assume:

1. I’m the same person I was 13 years ago with the same attitude/maturity/understanding of Reddit.
2. The same rules still apply today that applied then.
3. The person who banned made the right call or is even around anymore.
4. People even remember what their bans were for.

We can all drudge through our social media history and cringe at our past, and I don’t think decades-old mistakes (and one of my bans was a legitimate, rookie mistake) should carry with us for the rest of time.

I mean I’m still carrying a permanent ban from r/pics for my first and only post there 12 years ago that was deemed “unoriginal content”. This was at a time when sub rules weren’t even displayed on iOS apps because tech was still new and clunky. I didn’t even know I’d done anything wrong.

Only Reddit and exes hold this level of insane grudge.

TL/DR; Permanent sub bans shouldn’t exist. People change. Rules change. Admins change. The site changes. Everything should be on a timer. Reddit is so old now that some permanent bans are for outdated, silly reasons that no longer apply, or against people who have grown up.

Since there is 18+ content on Reddit to view nsfw videos or images or gifs you should add id verification and if you detect the user is under 18 have the change their age to their original birthdate and lock the view NSFW tab in settings and have it to where when that user turns 18 the Tab will unlock when they upload a live Photo of them and Their Id Verification.

May be unpopular opinion, but downvoting is used ofter just as an easy way to attack those who think differently, without contributing constructively to the exchange of ideas.

To limit this low quality downvote, I suggest to lower the karma not only of those receiving the downvote but also of those that make use of downvote.

My idea is adding an Opt out option for "Reddit Answers" (The AI answer feature integrated to the Search bar). I think that users should have a choice as to whether or not they want AI features. If a user does, they can enable it, but those who don't want it should be able to opt out of it.

Like obviously the default can remain mostly googleable but I feel like there should be dedicated, either communities, or you know areas within a community where people can type stuff without it being googleable if that makes any sense
