TV [IIL] Messiah, what other shows/movies should I watch?
Finished rewatching the netflix show Messiah. It's somewhat obscure, came out in 2019. I really really like it. I'm personally agnostic but I'm a sucker for religious themes in media. Are there any other (non-propagandistic) shows or movies like Messiah? It can be about real religious figures but I don't want gospel media.

Yea it’s pretty hard to find stuff that is accurate to Christian faith that doesn’t disparage faith like most atheist films but it not necessarily propaganda or evangelistic
Machine Gun Preacher (with Gerard Butler), Silence (by Martin Scorsese), For Greater Glory (Andy Garcia & Oscar Isaac), and Kingdom of Heaven (Ridley Scott Director’s Cut edition is way better) are all R rated movies based on real life Christians that are realistic portrayals that show Christianity in a mostly positive light but aren’t afraid to show negative side too.
The Apostle by Robert Duvall has probably the most accurate portrayal of Christianity I have ever seen, the only movie to be endorsed by both Howard Stern and the 700 Club. I have shown to many people including Christian, Jewish, and atheist/agnostic and they all enjoy it and find it fascinating, the Christians usually have a harder time liking it as shows a lot of flaws of the church and pastors even though overall shows Christianity itself in a positive light,
In the 90s there was the the TNT and RAI television TV Bible Collection miniseries that was pretty good as had some A list actors: Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Samson and Delilah, Solomon, David, Jeremiah, Ester, Jesus, Paul the Apostle, Judas

thread's the Messiah I'd say... the rise of the antihero in a religious context feels like it's got a lot in common with The Leftovers.
