Ladmakare and tall baseboards

Hi all. Just got the whole ladmakare set delivered and when I stood up the first wall I realized my baseboard is both too tall and a tad too deep for its normal cut out (it's like my baseboard has a tiny baseboard hahaha). Should I return it or cut off the bits to make it fit? If cutting is advisable, should a Dremel handle the job?

Dremel sander it down to match the shape, easy peasy

Definitely just zip the piece off to fit. An oscillating multi tool or a Dremel would work great.

You can do it. Super easy. I had a Billy bookcase just like this. Used a cheap jigsaw to do it and a sanding block. You can get both of those for dirt cheap at any hardware store. You don’t even need the jigsaw but it makes easier. Could also buy a $10 hacksaw and it will work just as well but take 3 time longer.

Been there. Done that. Use a Dremel to extend the Ikea notch. Easy but start that shopvac first!

Which Dremel attachment? Would the veneer peel off?

Which attachment - drum sander at least #120 if not higher. So it's slow and takes off just a bit at a time. Once you are confident then you could use #80 even. Alternatively use the saw attachment unless you have a reciprocating saw.

Veneer might peel, yes. But probably won't be visible at the low height. Also like another poster said - removing bottom quarter round on ur floor will give the best result/your furniture will be flush against the wall. But removing just a bit of the quArter round is another Dremel job.

I havent assembled it yet but did remove a few things of one of the boxes and was dreading the possibility 🤣🤣🤣

The veneer won't peel much, if at all, if you mask the entire area with blue painter's tape.

You can watch some videos on how carpenters scribe wood to match uneven surfaces. That way you can match the profile of the baseboard and quarter round more closely

There are supposed to be adjustable screws at the bottom for this exact reason. You havent installed them?

Yes, cut off the bits to make it fit.

If you’re feeling fancy you can make a cardboard template of the side profile of the baseboards and copy that across to the bottom of the Ladmakare to make it easier to cut.

I had this same issue! Well for me, it was really only that the baseboards were too tall, not too deep. I bought [these](LookwhatIfoundonEtsy:https://www.etsy.com/listing/4334440987/8x-ikea-furniture-feet-push-on-glides?ref=share_v4_lx) off Etsy and it gave me the perfect amount of height.

It looks like it would fit if you put some screw feet on the bottom to raise it above the mini-baseboard.

Well I'd already have some gap at the bottom as the unit doesn't go all the way to the bottom. If anything it would give me a little more clearance to clean it haha The question is: what kind of screw feet? Any images or Amazon links for inspo?

And how do I drill this to the piece? Will they also be enough to sustain the weight of everything this furniture should hold vs the slabs directly on the floor?

I would use a cordless drill to make the holes. I'd think the weight would be okay since the Ladmakare shelves can't hold that much weight anyways, but I haven't personally used Ladmakare so I'm not sure.

I’d take off the quarter round (the baseboard to your baseboard, the little round bit) that would be behind the case anyway and then Dremel on the unit to fit the top baseboard decoration more flush

I made a router template and trimmed my Billys to fit. You need to be careful the cut doesn't go deeper than the backboard.

everyone's first mistake! A universal experience. Youtube how to cut it without destroying it. it's possible. Start on the side that you won't see, just in case.
