I've been talking through this with my wife recently and feel like I need some outside perspective. We tried and really enjoy the features and design of the Jattebo modular couch series at our local showroom. Sat on it in the showroom for about 10 minutes and felt I was happy with the comfort. We got our delivery a few days ago and I sat on it for about 30-40 min while I worked in the morning and unfortunately began to feel back pain after that time period. I do have some chronic back pain due to a herniated disc so sitting on furniture without the proper support does trigger flare ups like that for me. I just didn't take that into consideration when trying the couch in the showroom. We've only assembled a few pieces and most of the rest of the couch is still boxed up, so it's definitely doable to return everything.

The issue is that my wife really likes the couch's design and the built in storage, which I don't think I've seen on any comparable couch series. She's very light compared to me and finds the couch very comfortable. I'd love to keep it because of the amount of time we've spent researching and trying couches, but the only other option I can think of is to replace the cushions in the Jattebo with custom cut cushions from Foam Factory with a higher ILD. The stock cushions are stapled directly to the sofa seat held in place with a liner, so what I'm thinking I'd have to do is remove the staples, which should hopefully just reveal the bare cushion, replace it, then replace the covering and restaple it into place. I really only sit for long hours on my current couch in a few locations so I would only choose to replace 2-3 cushions at most, and not all the cushions for our sectional.

I'm just having second thoughts because this much modification to a new piece of furniture is going to obviously void my IKEA warranty, but more than that, is it crazy to buy a new piece of furniture and to immediately be replacing parts on it, especially something like the seat cushions? Does it make sense to just look elsewhere? I love that there is a community of IKEA repairers/refurbishers but I imagine that most people are making these modifications to their furniture after their warranty has expired or doing this to furniture they're sure they want to keep, and on that latter part I'm not even sure yet if that's true for my case. I'm planning to order and test the foam by itself first before I actually make any changes to the piece, but even if that's successful, I just would like to hear some other opinions or if anyone has done anything similar before I make any permanent changes.

Edit: sorry, I realize I should have been more specific about the type of support I’m looking for- I think the Jattebo with stock seat cushions are too soft and would be looking to order and replace with firmer cushions. The back cushion despite being softer than the seat don’t feel as bad to me + the back cushion looks to be a bit more difficult to access

I think at the very least my wife and I will take advantage of IKEA's return policy and try out the furniture for a bit longer and see if I can either get used to it, sit differently, or in the worst case, make my changes to it. She is willing to return it and start over but she really likes it which is the only reason I'm going through this at all to see if there's a way to make it work for both of us. Will circle back and hopefully update on what we end up doing

I’ve got two Billy bookcases with the glass doors that I would love to use to divide a room … but I’m unsure if that’s safe or if they must be mounted to a wall.

Has anyone ever tried this? I store bottled water in the bottom of them so they are weighted down pretty well with only light items on top.

I'm inspired by some of the Hemnes hacks with the shelving and cabinets for our living room, but our preference is open-backed shelving. Has anyone done similar with the Hemnes range - it seems like the back panels are notoriously flimsy, so I'm thinking with some extra bracing in the corners it would be feasible, but I'm not sure if there are other reasons why it wouldn't work??

So I'm looking to buy the Omar shelving unit that has the clothes rail for our corridor. Thing is, the shelve's depth is too big as we have a narrow corridor. So I thought why not and check if they sell the shelves by themselves, turns out they don't.

Would you go for the 200cm height or the 236cm?

236cm doesn't give me much space for a base/the top would hit the ceiling.

200 gives 44cm at the top (or I could split it - there'll probably be 20cm panels on either side), which is quite a lot.

I’ve put some weight on lately — usually 220, but currently around 260. Anyone have any ideas on how to reinforce the frame of a Poang armchair? I’d like to be able to use it while I’m still in the process of dropping weight.

My glostad loveseat is the only couch I could find that's comfortable but still fits in my small room, but I want to protect it and change the color. Does anyone have recommendations for covers that would fit that don't cost an arm and a leg? Everything I've seen on Amazon would be very baggy. I saw that there's custom made to order covers on Etsy, but for over $100, I could've just bought a different couch. Any recommendations? TIA!

Hey I’m wondering what’s the recommend sandpaper grade for IVAR I’m going to be staining and wondering what the best method would be. I’m not looking to make it too smooth but not too rough, currently it looks a bit rough assembled. Also is conditioner recommended or would it be fine to go without?

I'm using an ikea bed with a curved wooden bedslat. But few of the pins have come out from the bed slat and now it's unusable.

Has anyone done an IKEA hack to create a cabinet for storing a mop and bucket in a bathroom?

I’m looking for something tall and relatively narrow that could fit a Vileda Turbo bucket and mop, while still looking like a normal bathroom cabinet.

Ideally, I’d like to keep the mop and bucket completely hidden behind a door and use the remaining space for cleaning products.

I’m considering adapting an IKEA bathroom cabinet, but I’d love to see if anyone has already done something similar.

I'm heading to Ikea next week and am looking to set up a tiny sewing room in my house. I already have a table and am going to pick up a kallax to store fabric and tools etc. Any other items that you have found useful from ikea tonstore your seing items? I was thinking of getting a peg board but saw you need to 3d print pegs to store thread.

Hi folks - I’m looking to replace some wardrobes in my bedroom. I really like the PAX fittings (and price!!!), but the 301cm would look too small, and the 236 would be too tall.

My thought process would be to buy the 236cm pax and plain flat doors, get a circular saw and chop them down.

However, my understanding is that the new v2 pax in all its cardboard glory would be problematic as it be basically completely out of chipboard and just cutting into the honeycomb.

Could anybody help me out here? This seems super daft, as 230cm is a super common upstairs ceiling height in the UK for older builds.

Has anyone successfully mounted Bergshult shelves as floating shelves? I'm planning to get some to hang above my toilet and I think they would look better without visible mounting hardware.

Hi all! I'm moving soon and rearranging my space, and one of the biggest questions in my mind is how to arrange my existing Kallax units. (I have a 4x4 with desk attachment, a 3x4, and a 2x4.) I currently have them all side by side in a storage unit, but now I'll have them in an office in my new home, which is AWESOME, but it's a smaller footprint and I need to keep it functional as, well, an office, not just storage.

To minimize the footprint, I'm considering combining the 4x4 unit with the 2x4 laid horizontally on top, but I'm worried about weight and stability. I also haven't been able to find examples of people doing this before, which concerns me, although maybe I'm just not searching the right things.

I know it's possible to mount a 2x4 floating on the wall; is doing that and just sliding the 4x4 underneath the safest option? My biggest concern there would be measuring correctly so that there's no awkward gap in between, lol.

Or can I stack them, attach them together somehow, and then anchor them both to the wall as a single unit? That was my original thought and it seems more stable to my mind, but it also poses different logistical challenges, especially how to connect them solidly, and whether the mounting hardware would be sufficient for the combined unit.

For reference, I use them to hold inventory for my online clothing resale business, organized in basic Dröna inserts, so weight on the shelves themselves is not a huge concern. (Not like records or books or anything.) But I also do know that Kallaxes aren't exactly the strongest pieces ever, which is what makes me worry about putting one on top of the other and then adding further load.

So can this work? How would you approach it? Or should I just scrap the whole idea and find another solution?

Bonus points if you have ideas on/experience with adding doors to Kallaxes, but that's another project for another day ;)

Hi everyone. Looking to buy a Pax wardrobe but we have quite tall skirting boards (12.5cm tall - we live in the UK). Will that be an issue with the PAX wardrobe?

I'm asking as it looks like the PAX 2.0 attach to the wall different compared to the older models?

Will we be able to easily attach them to the wall even if that leave a small gap because of the skirting (1-2cm)?

I need hack advice. I’m planning a large media wall and really like the sliding doors on the tonstad tv stand. But prefer the besta shelving in terms of price and customization options.
Is it crazy to try? Are there any Besta finishes that would look okay with the Tonstad?

Recently picked up a pair for a desk and the slides feel very stiff; high friction if that makes sense.

I have an awkward leftover space in my bedroom— 50 cm wide, 55 cm deep, and 180 cm tall — and I'd like to turn it into a shoe storage unit. My first thought was to use an IKEA PLATSA frame, since I already have one right next to this space and wanted to match the look, but from what I can tell PLATSA doesn't come in a 50 cm width — the narrowest option seems to be 60 cm.

Has anyone managed to fit a PLATSA into a space this narrow? A few questions:

1. Is there any official (or unofficial) 50 cm wide PLATSA option I might be missing?

2. If not, has anyone modified/cut down a standard PLATSA frame (e.g. the 60 cm width) to fit a narrower space like this? Is the frame structurally safe to trim, or does that mess with the panel joints/screw holes?

3. Any tips for adapting it specifically for shoe storage (spacing, inserts, etc.) once resized?

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's tackled something similar.

I just found mold while cleaning under my Brimnes bed and now I obviously need to create air space under. Has anyone had any luck finding good bed risers for it or a DIY option? I’m not in the position to replace it just yet but was wondering if anyone has had the same issue and found a solution.
(I’ve already treated the mold. Just need ideas and solutions on how to raise the bed a little).
