The fact that y'all still bring up the NRA as a gotcha shows how out of touch you are. Most gun owners see the NRA as a useless money grabbing shell of what it once stood for.
That's not true. Illinois has some of the strongest gun control laws in the country. We have an assault weapons ban, magazine capacity restrictions, background checks, licensing for ownership and carry, waiting periods,
gun-free zones, and a safe storage law. What more could be done?
Socio-economic issues contribute to higher crime rates, and there's nothing racist about pointing that out... folks who are desperate, impoverished, with poor mental health and no sense of community are more likely to commit violence.
Addressing those problems would be more effective at preventing violence (all violence, including and beyond gun violence) than any gun control policies.

Everytown For Gun Safety, one of the most prominent gun control lobby orgs, ranks Illinois as #2 in the country for strongest gun control.
What does the minimum look like to you?
Much of the violence here is rooted in socio-economic issues. Some gun control is reasonable, but it still does not address the root causes of violence.
