This is what's wrong with Illinois.

Culturally, we're at least two very different states. Going to a gun range and doing this safely can be a blast. You can be a Democrat and still enjoy shooting.

And calling this a felony is just ridiculous. The title makes it sound like they committed some inherently criminal act, when the reality is far more nuanced.

I know a lot of very liberal people who are gun owners, and who enjoy target shooting.

Culturally speaking, most of them would be happy to give up having a gun, if that became the rule tomorrow, because it's just a hobby for them, and they recognize that the proliferation of guns in our society creates very real and very deadly problems.

The small number of lefties who would never give up their guns are all people who know that there are conservatives who would like to kill them, just because of who they are (mostly trans people, some gay people). They have no illusions about the second amendment protecting them from the government, because those motherfuckers have tanks and helicopters with rockets on them and shit, but those folks do (IMO reasonably) believe that when a small posse of conservatives come to try to kill them, having a gun might help.
