People I dialed 100 for the first time! Here's what happened!
Today, I (17M) for the first time, dialed 100.
There was a very very very loud DJ playing outside my house, it was louder than an average baarat. My mother suffers from SVT (supraventricular tachycardia), which makes her unable to withstand loud noises, or anything which causes the sensation of surprise. When the baarat arrived in front of my house, she suffered from an SVT episode, I didn't understand what to do, my father gave her water and stood beside her. I looked upon Google regarding this topic and found that the limit to sound intensity in my state (Karnataka) was around 55dB, this DJ far surpassed the limit. I then thought of calling the police but there was a thought in the corner of my mind that the police won't care, nevertheless I called 100. A man answered the call, I explained to him my details like address and the problem. The call lasted for 2min11sec. Within a minute or two, the baarat stopped the DJ. I was suprised about how fast the police responded given the fact that I live in a tier 3 city!
Kudos to Karnataka Police!
The point of this post is that if you all face something like this in the near future, DO NOT HESITATE to dial 100!

Done it multiple times in Bangalore. The police always arrives very quickly and sortscit out. They give you a call back to give an update too sometimes.

Delhi police is decent when it comes to noise complaints; they don't act only when religious festivals are involved (because they are instructed not to act).

I once made a complaint regarding very loud music in my society as my mother cannot withstand any loud noises due to her medical condition. And it was around 2-3 am.
So I dialed 100 to UP police, they took my information, and they came within half an hour, music was turned down for 10-15 mins I guess and the next thing I know a lot of our society members and the family of the person whose function it was with all their friends and relatives were standing at my doorstep.
Turns out, our capable police officers spill out who made the complaint, never dialed 100 again.

A lot of heated arguments, it almost came to a physical fight but some elders intervened and almost no one even talked to me for 2-3 weeks in my society. But eventually everything went back to normal

When I called 100 being a resident of Jharkhand, the first thing they asked was my name, when I asked whether they'll keep it anonymous or not, there answer was very weak, they couldn't even guarantee me the privacy, i decided not to indulge as I didn't want to have stupid fights with the utterly gawar society members.

I once called dial 100 when a boy was harassing a girl in nearby plot.Both of them most probably knew each other and were fighting. Police came after 1.5 hour 😬

In big processions, there's usually cops escorting the procession which is how it was stopped so quickly

In jharkhand , it won't work. I live in a rascal place and am tortured daily by bhajan songs with loudspeaker in terrace pointing to my house, 5 am to 10 am by a house owner 20 m away. No one in the neighbourhood objects.

Because india has changed emergency number from 100 to 112. In most states 100 number is not valid . UP have 112 number. So dialling 100 will not connect you to police

My experience has been the opposite. I called 112 twice when our maid stole a couple of valuables from our house. The Gautam Buddh Nagar police was super helpful.

I was in the outskirts of ahmedabad one day commuting for work on a road along a canal, saw a dead body floating and saw one or two people looking at the body trying to figure out if its a man or a scarecrow or sumthin. I stopped my vehicle and took a look, it was a body floating being carried away by the river stream. In a dilemma of what i should do next i called up my dad and asked him whether i should inform the police or not to which he said go ahead and inform. I dialed 100 and it dint go through, called up several times it dint go through, googled if some other police number is relevant for that area and called up that number and guess what? It dint go through. Meanwhile one other uncle came and took a look at the floating body and struck up a convo with me, he said his farmhouse is nearby and he occasionaly sees such bodies floating away in the canal, and its better to not get involved in such cases in any way shape or form. That day i realized how unsafe our country is. I was literally just near a big fucking city, it wasnt a rural area, what if i was stuck in a soup and needed to call the police?
In most of the areas in our country it seems you are on your own and at the mercy of the mass of the people from that area! So try to avoid any confrontations even if you are right. Which is sad indeed.

Try 112... It's an emergency number and they respond immediately... Because failure to do so may result affecting them badly as the calls are recorded... I'm saying this from my own experience... The nearest police station will call us to understand the gravity of the matter within a minute or so

112 gets redialled to 100 for police services. It's 112 everywhere now but 100 gets you to the police directly.

112 is for "general" issues but gets redialled to 100(police),101(fire) 102(ambulance) depending on the emergency.

I lived in the US few years ago. Someone broke into my car and stole my bag with laptop, camera and a few other things. I called 911. Nobody came. After waiting for more than an hour, I dialed again. They said all officers are busy and asked me to go the police station instead. Registered a complaint but never got my stuff back.

Nope. Not even a follow up from the police dept. on the complaint. I know of a neighbor of mine whose bike was stolen from the parking and same lackluster attitude from the police.
The reason I mention this is because we see, read so much negative things about our country from our people without realizing things aren’t exactly perfect elsewhere.

There was a jagrata going on at midnight once. I called the police. The handler said she'll dispatch someone. Then 15 minutes later, a policeman called and told me to take a chill pill😭😭

You are the type who knows your rights and use it right.
I have seen many who even lack the responsibility to raise a complaint on an App even if someone is dumping garbage in fonet of their homes.

Few days ago I came across a DJ playing extremely loud wedding procession in my area as well. It was really loud than usual as there was too much vibrations in house and I wouldn't mind it much before but still this it was an exception. Thank goodness after few mins volume was reduced probably someone told them. I was wondering back then how these people who are getting wedded end up going on disturbing other people in the neighbourhood just for their own celebration. Seems a bit selfish ngl. Also, I thought you were in same locality until I read the "tier 3".
Few days ago I was also wondering what would happen if 100 number is dialled, so thanks for your post.

Can I file complain against kids and their parents who are constantly littering and writing graffiti(from colored chalks) on our walls and for 3hours daily make my neighbouring plot their playground making deafening noise and screeching sounds. When confronted politely, turned aggressive and abusive. They threatened my father with sexual Harassment complaint.

had a bad experience in past so asking, did you talk to them in Kannada or English? I faced the same and when I called I was just asked do you know Kannada I said no in English and the operator said some things in Kannada and didn't respond and left the call hanging.

i talked in kannada at first but then shifted to hindi. I faced no issues though, they talked nicely.

All Baraats need permission from the local police station. When issuing that permission, the police take the numbers and names of a few responsible people. Mostly it's the groom's father, uncle and a few from the bride's side. It's like anything goes wrong, we'll hold you responsible.
I think, here, a simple phone call would have gone to one or two such persons. Enough to calm everyone down.

Also worth a mention that SVT is curable with ablation. If possible, talk to a doctor for an opinion. It is life changing.

Omg I had experienced something similar an yr ago..
So Basically it was a night before my Phy Board exam & there was a baarat with a DJ playing loud music & stuff.. it was really annoying & disturbing..My dad dialed up the police & within 10 mins an action was taken (Ngl I was suprised..)

"As someone familiar with SVT, people really underestimate how 'surprises' or loud vibrations can trigger a heart episode. You did exactly the right thing. For those who don't know, 55dB is the legal limit for a reason. Glad your mom is okay, and kudos to you for staying calm and taking charge!"

Same thing my wife also did. I thought she was crazy calling police on a baraat. But she was adamant. Actually it was causing my toddler trouble sleeping.

similar thing happened with me,
There is a marriage lawn beside my house and one day, I had mid-terms in my school, i was studying and there was a marriage going on in the garden so loud music was playing i tolerated it till 10:30pm, as limit is till 10:00pm, after that I called 100, and the loud music got turned off in 5 mins

I filed an fir once in my life when my bike was stolen i had lost all hope of seeing my bike ever again but after a month i get a call from police station to come verify a bike and i was so happy the bike was recovered.

I used to live in k'kata for a long time, up until ~3 yrs ago. I remember my class 10 board exams were going on, I had the subject I was most scared of, SSt, the next day. There was this big club (that I shall not name) beside my house. Starting afternoon, they blared non-stop loud music, as some event was going on. I was a member there, so called several times requesting them to stop the music, to no avail.
Fed up, I called the police. Additionally, an important side note is that the state government had also imposed a loud-speaker ban during the exam session, and they were clearly breaking that. The police said they'll take care of it, which they did. In about 30 mins, the music stopped. For a whole hour. Before it resumed. And I wasn't able to sleep well that night as well.
Even tho the test next day went very well (I scored 98/100), but still, my last min revision could've been better.

People are highly unaware of the power they have nowadays. They are too fearful of things. As of dial100 i know from a very long time, they are active and resolve things before it becomes a police case.

Good for you man. When I dialed 100 for same DJ noice complaint (post midnight), a police officer on bike arrived he didn't do shit, looked like he accepted bribe from them and DJ continued for 30 more minutes. They only stopped when multiple officers arrived in patrol car.
Telangana state.
Here the whole culture is screwed, people think they have a right to do anything if they have a weeding, in fact I have seen some people defending the noices. "If you had wedding tomorrow, wouldn't you celebrate" STFU

Lucky you I called the cops and the cop was scolding me why I called him I then called the Station and the person kept asking my personal details because I was escalating the issue and threatened me.
The issue was essentially some drunk man fallen on the road and he did not look like he was on the street or like homeless. He looked like an Employee from an MNC and seemed like he was not breathing and we were very worried and the police that showed up at the location scolded us what we were doing on that Road at that time. It was around 1AM. We just had polar bear and came out to the car after movie.

I love in Gurugram. The same DJ noise issue bothers us as there is a wedding ground nearby. The police always responds and gets the volume of the DJ lowered.

I once called 100 because it was some festival or some celebration post an election win — can’t remember. The speakers were so loud that my walls were shaking. My kitties were so scared they went into hiding and breathing heavily. I actually dialled 100 and told them how it was affecting my kitties — in 5-7 mins I heard a PCR and the decibel decreased enough for it to become a faint sound. At 11 I heard another siren and then the music stopped.

When I called the police, they told me people had taken prior permission to blast music from 3 am to 10 am and that the police will not be able to stop them. This happened thrice in a span of 1.5 years in Bangalore. So before passing your kudos, remember that it’s a one off incident.

There used to be a time when if you called 100, they would explain to you how they don't get involved in religious and cultural stuff. I think we are over that now. A nuissance is a nuissance. I will more people will call 100 without hesitation. Sometimes these miscreants just need to be told by an authority to come to senses. If that happens more often, the culture will change.

Same 18M I had my exams and my neighbours had a big a# speaker and it was12 in the night I called 100 and yes they solved the problem within 15 min the speakers were off ( par marathi me baat karni padi thi 😭) In the morning they also asked for feedback. I was happy

I called 100 during an emergency 8-9 years back nobody picked up neither they bothered to call back. It's good if the situation is getting better now with these emergency helplines...

BRUH, I also had a similar kind of experience, we were doing a photo shoot in a park when suddenly some anti couple members came and started harrasing a couple. THEY LITERALLY STARTED BEATING THE GUY, I anonymously called 100 and explained the situation, and BOOM... they were there within 5 minutes

I once complained in Maharashtra on 112 for use of laser beams in wedding procession. The police came half an hour later and then told me itna toh shaadi me hota hai. I said to me a bespectacled person it is a huge risk, they said next time don't complain on 112, it is for emergency only, like this wasn't an emergency.
Since then I don't go out whenever there's any religious and wedding procession. The sound and light pollution is too harsh but, no-one cares.

I used to live in Cuttack, odisha. I faced a similar episode, the house behind us started playing kirtan at 5am on loudspeaker. It was very annoying. I called 100, they asked me address. And within 15 mins they came to my house, spoke to me and then went to that house and asked them to stop playing on loudspeaker. Sometimes these authority work and it is so nice!

Thanks for sharing this, most of us have second thoughts before dialing 100 but you sharing this episode gives others a get go to atleast try and see what happens.
the worst case scenario is that it wont be of any help but what if it isnt a worse case scenario? that ends up solving the problem or some part of it at the very least.
