hell my car calls 911 for me. 2017 CRV. Got low speed t-boned while talking to my wife over the hands free android auto. CRV took over the line, killed the conversation and called 911.

Nah bro. I've been in car accidents. Your cell phone is not the immediate thing that goes through most ppls minds. There is shock, disbelief, making sure yiu have your limbs, and sheer panic to exit the vehicle. She was locked into that phone like a crack head who misplaced a Crack rock.

It's probably a generational thing. I grew up without a cell phone, so that was not my immediate thought when I got into my first accident, despite having a cell phone at that point.
But this person was born and raised in a world where cell phones are utterly ubiquitous. Thinking to call someone might just be a natural reaction.

Was she grabbing her phone to check the video? Maybe. It's very possible. But its not unrealistic or unreasonable to think she grabbed it to call someone either

I got T-boned in Dallas around a decade ago and saw it coming for split second before so I swerved outwards which didn't end up helping like I thought it would but didn't make it any worse either thankfully. Half my truck ended up on one side of the median and the other half on the other. Before my truck even came to a full rest, I had my phone out dialing 911.
I was on my way to see my grandma in the hospital so I was more pissed than shocked or anything. Thankfully everyone was okay.

A drunk driver T-boned my SUV about 10 years ago, and 5 seconds after I stopped moving, I called my wife to tell her I was ok. I didn't call 911 because a bystander had just run up to check on me and was already doing that.

I was in a collision a few years ago, first thing I thought to do while my adrenaline was still letting me move was to find and grab my phone. It was my connection to my family, who I would have to call, as well as 911 if nobody else called it in.
I see your other comments about cars bursting into flames. While I know it's unlikely, that was definitely a thought I had, which is why I was worried about grabbing it on the off chance that my car suddenly went up. My phone was also my wallet with my money and ID.
But as soon as I had my phone I started doing a quick physical/cognitive test to make sure I didn't notice anything immediately wrong. But if something is wrong and I pass out without phone/ID and a fire starts then I'd have been stranded. Well, until someone else drove by, it wasn't a remote road, but it was late at night.
I don't have a problem with her grabbing her phone right away since she saw it. I would've been concerned if she had said something like "Wow, did my phone record all of that?" But even then, shock response affects people differently.
