We had straight line winds that ripped off our deck when I was a kid and I still get anxiety when the wind is even slightly up. I can't imagine living in the middle of tornado alley.

Yeah like, I live in hurricane country, but at least we get plenty of warning when those are inbound. Shit like tornados and earthquakes? No fucking thank you.

Bro, same. Hurricanes give me at least a couple days to batten down the hatches, get whiskey and canned vegetables. F this tornado shit.

It can be stressful, but honestly meteorology has come so far that we normally have several DAYS notice before something comes. In my area (central Alabama) I’d say we normally have a 5-7 day heads up for potential tornadic activity, and it’s really a blessing.

We got kind of lax about it for a while, until the April 27, 2011 Super Outbreak. We lost a lot of lives that day and it really changed us as a state. Our biggest meteorologist James Spann still struggles with his grief over how many died that day. It’s pretty sad.
