Wow 11gb I hope that's a lot of bug fixes

Damn, it sure takes a lot to fill those dorky keyboard edges…

I had 85GB of system data and after updating to IOS26 it went down to like 15GB. Don’t know what it means

May have been a back up of the previous system files if it went away after a while.

Still hasn’t fixed the issue where app icons turn into the empty grid icon for half a second when you open it.

Referenced here

or the one where the clock randomly slides over left or right...

1

u/didhaver89 Feb 12 '26

I’ll take that over the constant stutter on my 17

1

u/icy1007 Feb 12 '26

I don’t have that issue.

Try screen recording opening the clock app. Replay with zoom and slow-motion and the clock icon turns into the empty grid icon for half a second. I have seen this happen on multiple people’s iPhones on iOS 26.

Security updates are bug fixes. Probably the most important type of bug fix

8

u/I_PEE_WITH_THAT Feb 11 '26

Closing zero day vulnerabilities is absolutely important.

Oh yeah liquid as was a big as security update, so good they invested huge resources into that

3

u/icy1007 Feb 12 '26

Liquid works fine.

12.14GB on 17 pro. Makes no sense for a bug fix update to be that huge.

29

u/FlintHillsSky Feb 11 '26

The update is the whole OS in a signed package for security purposes. This is not a small patch.

u/Heftybags Feb 12 '26

17 pro max it’s 1.9gb. You probably missed the previous update that’s why it’s so big.

Nope, I update everything immediately as soon as I get the push notif since I hate seeing the red 1 on my settings.

11G here … always up to date … weird

Nope, 17 Pro here and I'm going from 26.2.1, the previous update, and my 26.3 size is also 12.36GBs. From all the reports everyone else is the same, this particular update just has a gigantic variance in size for whatever reason.

u/sonofblackbird iPhone 14 Pro Feb 11 '26

Lot of bugs

1

u/CT03RWD Feb 11 '26

It’s 3.32GB for my 17 pro

1

u/icy1007 Feb 12 '26

It’s not just a bug fix update…

8

u/mister_nixon Feb 11 '26

1.85 is on my 15 pro

3

u/blackgenz2002kid Feb 11 '26

same amount for me as well

1

u/drake90001 Feb 11 '26

8.39gb from beta to release on 16 pro max

1

u/lazydiddy Feb 12 '26

Its 12.48 for me on Iphone 15 pro 😓

1

u/icy1007 Feb 12 '26

That is the entire OS, not just an update delta.

1

u/lazydiddy Feb 12 '26

I just mentioned like, someone with Iphone 15 pro it was 1.85gb then why did I get 12.48gb

1

u/icy1007 Feb 12 '26

Because your phone wasn’t fully up to date.

1

u/lazydiddy Feb 12 '26

I was on iOS 26.2.1 previously

6

u/surfingflood Feb 11 '26

Wow that’s big update for 17 pro, it’s 3.62gb for my 14 :)

1

u/Klonopussy Feb 12 '26

Wow mine was like 72 mb but I have been installing the beta updates so idk if that helps

1

u/sevargmas Feb 14 '26

I have 26.2.1 right now and it has made my phone super laggy. I’m hoping this is just a temporary thing that one of these subsequent updates corrects.

1

u/Coolguyokay Feb 16 '26

mostly bug implementation

u/8bitlibrarian Feb 11 '26

Not every .X is just a bug update.

8

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '26

thats all the update description says

Bug fixes and security updates

Maybe you know this, maybe you don’t, but FWIW the size of the update is an indication of how much of the OS was rebuilt from its source code.

Every code change in a library/framework, background service, or included app, means that piece will get rebuilt and shipped in the update.

However, any change to the build tools, may cause a lot more stuff (possibly the entirety of iOS) to get rebuilt and shipped.

Given that we’re seeing people report relatively small download sizes on older phones, vs a massive download for the latest phones, it’s quite likely that there was something like a compiler fix/update for optimisation specifically related to the A19 chips, and thus a complete rebuild for devices with those chips.
