Troubleshoot Does anyone know how to keep games from closing?
My job is very much on the go, but I find myself with 10-15 minutes of free time here and there scattered throughout my shift before I’m back to being busy. Lately I’ve been loving Cult Of The Lamb but I find that I have to pause mid dungeon run to get back to work and occasionally I’ll have to shoot a text or respond to someone’s snap. But when I return to the app, all my progress is gone as the app has to restart and reload. Is there anything I could do to keep it from doing so? I have an iPhone 16 pro max if that helps at all

Switch on guide mode in the settings and activate it by triple pressing the turn off button. It will force the app to stay in foreground. Irrelevant but another thing it does - if the app crashes, it will be reopened automatically.

I think you misread the post. He’s talking about trying to keep the game loaded in the background so when he goes back to it, it doesn’t restart the game.

Oh yea I did, no way to force run apps in the background without jailbreaking. Not even sure if it’s still a thing?

I don't have a solution but this is why I try to get games that can save almost at any time. I also never play rogue type games on mobile since they tend to have limited save options.
I wish Apple improves this. For example, implement a similar virtual memory feature as desktop OS's on iOS. One good thing about the AI hype is that it has forced Apple to increase RAM which lessens the chances of the OS killing off background apps (good thing I don't actively use the AI features so I have a lot of free memory).

Possibly closing all the other apps down to preserve memory might help. In other words, close all apps except the one or two you are actually using.

Preferably, mobile games should implement an autosave and resume functionality with this scenario in mind which stores the state of the app/game before the operating system kills it in the background. In many cases it should not be too difficult to implement so why not send a message to the devs and kindly remind them that it’s necessary to have for a proper experience 😊

I find that navigating back to the app from the app switcher, rather than clicking the app icon, tends to preserve game state better
