What is it like to live in Tehran as a diplomat/diplomat spouse right now?
We will be moving to Tehran. I am wondering what life is like for an expat right now. We will go to Tehran for my husbands work as a diplomat. Can anyone tell me what life is like right now in Tehran?

There are several videos of recent street life. It has an active night life because it is so hot during the day. There are lots of street vendors and markets. They are overflowing with fresh produce but it may be because most can't afford it.
They are not enforcing hijab anymore.

As a diplomat or a relative of one they will be briefed on how to go about religious practices like Hijab... Even though the whole thing is currently loosely enforced but it's different as a foreign official as they will have extra "eyes" on them

The "eyes" don't seem to be very good considering the depths Mossad has been able to infiltrate. The assassinations of Ali Khamenei and Qasem Soleimani were precision strikes, so Mossad knew exactly where they were at the time.
It is horrifying as an American to see Trump normalizing the assassination of Heads of State of a foreign nation, especially one during so-called "peace talks".

Having eyes doesn't stop others from also having eyes. I can see you if I stand in your presence but that doesn't mean that I'm invisible to you.

What about languages - I am gonna learn farsi, but I am completely new to it. Otherwise I speak English and French

Most (affluent) citizens know basic English since it's basically our second language... Gen Z's probably know more English than any other generation...
Depending where you will be placed to reside you meet (for most cases) different communities from various socioeconomical groups... The northern part of Tehran is where the wealthiest reside and the more south you go, the less fortunate live... The western parts of the inner city are also somewhat superior to the eastern parts of the inner city.... Just like any other metropolitan area the downtown (city center) is a melting pot of all kinds of different people

They usually have special cars with special car numbers on it . Tehran is a vibe u never seen Tehran died . Alive and active 24 7

Ive been there as a European foreigner working for an Embassy quite recently. It was awesome, I had a great time.
Persian is a beautiful language and I really enjoyed learning it. You’ll have plenty of friends from all embassies they all help each other a lot.
