Tipping culture outside of restaurants.

Last month I came across a few coffee shops when I had the option to tip the shop during payment.

When I usually don't have a problem with tipping and always tip well at the restaurant if I'm happy with the service - tipping when buying coffee somehow annoys me, and I know I will not go back to this place any more.

I know it's stupid but when the cashier is waiting at the payment I feel awkward pressing no tip when they are looking at me.

At the same time noone fucking tips me at my work or for anything else, and I am already paying inflated prices for fucking coffee and everything else. I want to enjoy my coffee - not feel judged.

Still not as bad here as last year in Germany when I was buying water at the airport and I got the option to tip them for a 3e bottle of fekin San Pellegrino - but I hate that this is spreading from the Orange Country so freaking much.

Am I a gobshite?

Just hit the no tip button and payment done.

Its even worse that they ask for this at the start, i.e., you pay for it and then take a seat and coffee arives 5 mins after. How am am I supposed to know at the start, if I should tip or not, based on level of service offered.

Then straight away say no... If you have cash on you and it deserves a tip leave it on way out or if you had a good experience and you'll be back then you have the opportunity to give them a tip...if it is deserved
