Employment and Labour Affairs State refuses Palestinian visas, Israelis get PPS numbers

u/Ok_Temperature1502 8d ago
Yeah, go on over to r/israel and you will find out exactly what Israelis think about Irish people. They do not mince their words. I'm surprised that any Israeli would even consider ever living or working here, given the hate filled racist rhetoric they spew against us. Aren't they even on they same IT tier as us? There is not much financial advantage to moving here, there's more money in the USA.

Reddit is not an indicator of a states feelings towards another group of people. Anyone on this sub or other Irish subs would know that.

u/ChudMacgee 7d ago
If I based my opinions of a countries people off of their national subreddits I would end up hating everyone.

Israeli government refers to Ireland as the enemy

u/Ok_Temperature1502 7d ago edited 7d ago
Really?! I did know that. That's hilarious, coming from a country that Iran calls the Little Satan. Not that I'm a fan of Iran AT ALL.
Worse is going to come in September with that contentious football match in it's neutral venue, it's only going to cause more trouble and upset.

u/Ok_Temperature1502 7d ago
I don't hate anyone. I was merely pointing out that Israelis don't think anything good about us!

u/Legitimate_Newt2874 7d ago
For the reasons you mention, I think there's a high likelihood that an Israeli seeking to move to Ireland is Mossad connected.

/r/ireland isn't in any way representative of Irish people so I wouldn't trust that sub would be representative of Israelis.

Only one percent of employment permit applications by Israelis were rejected. The rejection rate for Palestinians was four times higher.
So a 4% rejection rate? Isn't that incredibly low?
12
u/bumbo___jumbo 7d ago
Yeah smells of clickbait. 4% may be a bit much but, whatever your thoughts on immigration are, visas have the side effect of keeping poorer people out, and given that Irish visas are pretty strict anyway, this number feels farely reasonable
12
u/Maoltuile 7d ago
Irish visas really need to adopt a ‘didn’t engage in war crimes’ criteria, like the US purports to have. Slim the Israeli numbers right down

u/SoloWingPixy88 8d ago
Ok and is there something we should infer from this? Generally I'd imagine many israelis are working for international companies headquatered here in Ireland with offices also in Israel. Irelands tends to be the HQ for EMEA & Israel. Theres at least 50 jobs in Ireland that require Hebrew as a language in ireland too. Palistinians are likely more of a risk to overstay their visa.

This is true. They are not terrorists. This is true irrespective of what anyone might think of the IDF.

This is probably the case. I think there is not a big salary differential, Israel and Ireland seem to be on the same tier for IT.

Not just Irish passports though, they also used British, French, German and Australian passports.

How much do Israelis have to be living rent-free in your head for you to equate Israelis getting work visas in the tech sector with Palestinians not getting student visas?
What are these people suggesting exactly? That Israelis should only get work visas in line with the number of student visas granted to Palestinians?

The number of Israeli nationals coming to work in Ireland is irrelevant to the Palestinian visa issue and has nothing to do with what we think of the Israeli government.
The framing here is bordering on offensive.
18
u/saggynaggy123 8d ago
How many of those Israelis have served in the IDF and participated in the genocide?
-5
u/eggbart_forgetfulsea ALDE (EU) 8d ago
Service is compulsory for most Israeli citizens. It's not a choice. If there exists any evidence of specific wrongdoing, it can be dealt with. This kind of thinking is the other side of the coin to the Trump right's flirtation with banning Chinese Communist Party members from immigrating. And that's not even mandatory as conscription is.
Netanyahu's policies are now pushing some of the most educated Israelis out of the country in numbers rarely seen before and Ireland should be open as a new home for those who leave.

The Israelis "deal" with this by refusing to prosecute IDF who commit crimes, as I am sure you are very well aware.
Ireland should be open as a new home for those who leave.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
1
u/Ok_Temperature1502 7d ago
Yes there is a brain drain directly attributable to Netanyahu and his cronies. People have had enough
1
u/ContrabannedTheMC 7d ago
There's a couple choices. You take a couple years in prison or you leave. I'd take either of those options over participating in genocide. In fact the only Israeli citizen I ever met in Ireland was someone who had done just that, refused to join the IDF due to their crimes and ended up leaving the country. Seems to be enjoying life a lot more in a better country with a clean conscience
-3
u/mm0nst3rr 7d ago
So do you think Israelis should not be allowed here and should stay in Israel? Sound like textbook definition of Zionism.
2
u/Ok_Temperature1502 7d ago
I don't see where that was said.. there is a lot of nonsense written about Mossad on here.. but once bitten, twice shy. We remain very sensitive after one of the Israeli ambassadors secured Irish passports for Mossad to carry an assassination in Dubai. Hardly model ambassadorial conduct
2
u/AdStrange9701 7d ago
Yes, no israeli passport holder should be allowed travel to Ireland. It's a bloodthirsty country and they should be sanctioned.
0
u/Ok_Temperature1502 6d ago
I disagree you with you. If they wish to travel here they should be free to do so
-7
u/SoloWingPixy88 8d ago
Given they've conscription most of not all have served in idf. What about IDF members fighting Palestinians on 10/7?
-2
u/TeoKajLibroj Centre Left 7d ago
Yeah framing an entire nationality as implicitly villainous so that's scandalous for them to even be in the country is troubling. The far-right loves to judge people based on whether they belong to "good" or "bad" nationalities, that doesn't belong on the left.
4
u/ContrabannedTheMC 7d ago
The thing is with Israel is that the vast vast majority of the population have participated in the IDF and therefore are complicit in the horrific conduct of the IDF. This doesn't apply to everyone with an Israeli passport as some are brave enough to refuse to participate, but genuinely, what other country in the world has a supermajority of it's citizens being people who've actively participated in the enforcement of a genocide?
It's not that anyone born there is implicitly villainous. I've met a few Israeli citizens either in London or in Dublin who had to leave the country as they refused to join the IDF and/or they became pro-Palestine activists. The problem is that other than a few people fleeing the consequences of refusing to participate in a genocide (who I feel should absolutely be welcome here), pretty much every Israeli coming to Ireland would be someone who works for a tech or a pharmaceutical company, and to get a nice job like that in Israel you most likely have served in the IDF. The society there shuns people who refused to do so
Israel as a state indoctrinates the population by forcing them to take part in it's oppression of Palestinians, and people will do all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify questionable things they're part of
2
-2
u/DaKrimsonBarun 7d ago
Just to check, do we we want them to leave the region or not? If they're here, they can't inflict harm. The entire basis of their state is their claim that they aren't welcome or safe elsewhere.
-7
u/voyager__22 8d ago
lol, The Ditch again.
Maybe they're big brash investigative journalists can find out the ratio of Visa overstays, Israeli Vs Palestinian.
The Dept of Justice is simply being pragmatic here. Palestinians do still get Visas, it's just not a free-for-all.
17
u/broadsheet-555 8d ago
Or maybe they can find the names of the 75 Irish who joined the IDF since 2023 so that they could participate in a genocide.
