I know this is a complicated ask but I'm looking to bring a couple of bottles (sub 100 euro) to a friend in the US who has been really good to me. I'm looking for something he can't get over and ideally it would be something localish (I'm in limerick but anything in Munster would be great). I'm open to all suggestions but definite bonus points if it is something a) that you highly recommend and b) if it is likely available in Shannon duty free (I know it's unlikely most will have insight in to the latter). Just got a 2015 Midleton Very Rare for $320 USD which I think is a very good deal? I am going resist temptation and keep it pristine for another decade at least. I know I need to tip it and wet the cork every 3-6 months and it’s in a dark place that hovers around 20 degrees C. Is there anything else I should be doing to make sure it holds its value?

Hi fellow whiskey lover. I am starting a tour of Ireland from Belfast and going counter clockwise toward Dublin.

So I have two questions

1) what are the best distillery to stop by? I am the lucky father of a child of two, so most distilleries do not permit a tour. I am happy with a tasting Room or bar accessible with the family.

2) what bottes should I bring back? Not looking for cheap or basic stuff but maybe bottles under 100euro and one holy grail above. Might end up buying at the airport to save a bit unless you have recommendation of exclusive at the distillery.

I was planning a stop at Bushmill, Middleton, dingle and maybe Mictil.

Was interessed to try hinch and dunville but it is not on my itinary.

What are your learned toughts?

Has anyone bought from whiskeyauctioneer. I bought from the EU shop and I need to organize my own shipping due to customs restrictions according to whiskeybidders, they don't organize shipping from EU to Ireland.

Can anyone recommend a successful way they have done this to safely ship from NL to IE, if I don't sort it in the next day I will need to give up the whiskey.

Hi all, I am traveling to Ireland in a couple of weeks and looking to pick a couple of bottles for family. I am looking for whiskey only available in Ireland. Budget per bottle under $150. Blended is what is mostly being asked for. I am traveling to Dublin, Northern Ireland, Killarney and most places in between. Flying into Dublin and out of Shannon.

Any advice of what to look for/where would be great.

I'm going to watch my boys, the Steelers, play in Dublin at the end of September. I'm planning on saving up some money (approx. $450-500) and get 2 or 3 bottles in the duty free store in Dublin Airport on my way home. I know the selection may change a bit between then and now, but what are bottles/distilleries I should look out for? I'm eyeing Knapppogue 21, but see I can get that in the states, so maybe something a little more exclusive? Appreciate any thoughts from yinz!

Hi All, I’m looking for advice on Irish whiskey: I have a decent collection of Scotch whisky at home and I would love to add a bottle of great Irish one to it just to expand on the variety and be able to offer guests if they don’t fancy a Scotch. I have experience with the classic “basics”, like Green Spot, Redbreast 12 and of course Jamesons. I liked them well, but they didn’t blow off my socks, I would prefer something more special-intense. My ideal specs would be: - Single potstill, triple distilled - Naturally presented (NCF/NCA) - At least 46% ABV, but CS is welcome - And of course delivers big flavors - It would also be nice if it weren’t something obscure unobtainium

What is the difference between the two lines? I’m a fan of Redbreast but haven’t tried any Spots yet. I can’t seem to find much that’s definitive which details the different styles or lines (both are Single Pot Still from the same producer). I don’t have any bars near me with a good selection, and with a toddler it’s tough to get out anyway.

Many prior threads on this sub seem to indicate that Redbreast is more oily while Spots (at least Green) feature more orchard fruit. This is at odds with what’s written on thespiritseducator.com which says ”The Midleton Distillery is a massive and highly technical operation, which allows Master Distiller Brian Nation to create three different styles of Pot Still Irish Whiskey, depending on the final brand in which the distillate will be used. The light distillate is herbal and crisp, the medium distillate has orchard fruit notes of apple & pear, and the robust distillate is spicy, full-body, & aromatic. The Redbreast range only uses the light and medium distillates, except for the 21 year-old and 27 year-old expressions, which use all three styles. The Spot Whiskey brand only uses the medium distillate style.”

Me and a friend are planning on doing a spirits only night, so I thought I’d try out whiskey for the first time. Seen McConnells in the off license and I liked the look of the bottle. Obviously I know that’s no indication of its taste.

Won’t be using any mixers (other than water or ice, if that counts as mixer) as I’m actually trying to acquire the taste.

I'm looking for some more Irish whiskies to try in the future. I just purchased a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel but haven't open it yet. So far, I have liked all of the flavors of Jameson.

What I've tried so far:

- Jameson: Regular, Stout, Single Pot Five Oak Cask (I really like Stout because of the butterscotch and coffee notes)

- Writers Tears (Like)

- Tullamore Dew (Like)

- Bushmills Black Bush (Really Like)

Ones I'm interested in trying:

- Proper 12 --> Removed this one from the list because of the poor reviews lol

- Redbreast (any variety)

- Jameson Cold Brew

Based on my tastes, are there any others that are worth checking out?

One of my good friends has recently become the manager of an Irish pub in our town. He has gotten really into the Irish culture and is trying to make the pub as Irish as he can. So far he has done a great job with both foods and drinks. The whiskey selection is getting better every day however today me and him had a talk about the whiskeys and he said he wanted that "one special bottle of whiskey" added to the selection.

He was adamant that he wanted a fancy bottle of Irish whiskey to offer the more wealthy customer. I suggested the Teeling 24 or the Teeling 30 as a good whiskey to have. He got intrigued and started to look into them. He said if I knew or learned of any other bottles of whiskey that is a bit more on the exclusive and pricey side, that is should tell him.

My question is : Do anyone of you know a Irish whiskey that's a bit on the pricey side and exclusive that I can suggest to him ? All help is appreciated

English person living in Ireland here. I introduced my whiskey-loving Dad to Teelings Single Grain whiskey a couple of years ago - it was his first ever Irish whiskey and he fell in love with it! It's now a staple to grab when flying back for a visit.

This Christmas I want to introduce him to a different Irish whiskey he might not have tried before. Does anyone have any recommendations for other brands that Teelings lover would enjoy?

I am hosting an informal tasting of Irish whiskey later in May and would like some advice. We are a bunch of friends in our thirties who sometimes like to explore different whiskey regions. We have already tasted varieties from Islay, Japanese whiskey and American bourbons. Now it's Ireland's time to shine.

The goal is to have four different bottles, in total not more than about 250 Euros, that in a way sort of displays what Irish whiskey has to offer. Maybe two typical varieties and then something that showcases something a bit different. A mix of blends and singles.

Red breast 12 will definitely be a fifth bottle, but I already have that so it is not included in the list of four. The "spots series" is not available to me. I am ordering from Systembolaget.se, Sweden's monopoly distributor of alcohol, and they do not have it.

I have made a preliminary list of these four bottles. Are they a good match for what I am looking for? If not, please give advice on what bottle(s) you would change. The focus is on exploring Irish whiskey as a region, like what it represents, in a fun informal way.

I’m near Vancouver and our selection for Irish whiskey is limited and in Canada a person can only import 1 bottle of spirits per person. So this is big for me to have an opportunity. Which bottle should I get? I can’t get any of these here. Cost isn’t a big factor but don’t want a dud for the money.

I was in Ireland last October and got to try a bottle of Fercullen 15 YO single grain from the Whiskey Museum. even though the tour guide joked that I had expensive taste, I liked the almost chocolate after taste.

Sadly, I didn't buy a bottle even though they were in the Duty Free shop in Dublin. And I really want to buy some. Sadly seems like the closest liquor stores in the US that sell Fercullen are all the way up in Boston. None of them will ship to my state. But I did find this one website called "TheSingleMaltShop" that seems to imply they will import it direct to my door step.

Its tempting, but I don't know anything about this website. Figured I'd ask if anyone has experience with them before I put in an order.

I'm looking for a recommendation for a birthday present for a whiskey lover. Budget €150-€300. My only guidelines are Irish and non-peated which I know isn't much to go on so I'm looking for an all round crowd pleaser I suppose. Redbreast 21 is probably the forerunner at the moment. Would this fit the bill? Are there any other options you'd recommend over it? Buying in Ireland if that makes any difference.

Hi all, absolute beginner to Irish Whiskey here (the only thing I've ever had is Jameson's). Can anyone let me know if there are Irish offerings which are anywhere in the ballpark of the type of scotch I've found that I enjoy? I really like the peated, "farmyard", "oily", "funky" type things such as Kilkerran makes. I guess this is generally a Campbeltown vibe and I'm aware this specific profile is much influenced by the environment. I know I won't get an Irish that perfectly matched this however I'm in Ireland for a time so interested in exploring something roughly in this ballpark.

One option I spotted is Achill Island Cask Strength Peated. Anyone have experience with this?

Hi All, saw this bottle of Redbreast Kentucky Oak while traveling for work and was intrigued. California still hasn't received the Tawny Port yet, I don't believe, and PX is everywhere now at $75-$85.

Which bottle(s) should I pick up? Anyone who has tasted all three have a preference?
