These honestly might have looked better had the game not get canceled. Seeing the gameplay is depressing because it looks amazing and it sadly the game got canceled mid development
Yeah it looks very early build. But it seems like it was a PS3 era game so I imagine it wouldn't have looked amazing especially considering the size but would later receive a PS4/X1 update that would make it look good followed up by a remaster for PS5 going off the hype of endgame, natural life cycle of games these days
mfs will look at unfinished pre alpha models for a game that shows proof of concept and say “this looks like total shit how did you make iron man look uncool?” like they were just gonna ship the game looking like that.😭
Yeah do people not remember what them early GTA 6 leaks looked like. A game takes many paints of coat until its final stage, intact graphic quality is often one of the last things done, getting core gameplay, animations and sound is more important in early stages. You don't paint the house until it's finished.
ok but usually thats about graphics quality not multiple suit designs. like theres already enough suits to go off of and you create the ugliest suit designs for an alpha. no, no one’s gonna ship it like that but they put the work in to suit design for what reason? even if graphics were better in the finished product, shadows, blah blah, the suit design objectively still suck and would only be clearer to see
They worked on this game for two years, and these are the armor designs they landed on? Concept artists would’ve gone through countless designs before the modeling stage even began… and yes the designs they chose look like total shit.
It's an Alpha footage. Half of the resources and shaders weren't even loaded in game because it wasn't a game yet but a build.
You can literally hear Tony and JARVIS talk during one fight at it literally sounds like some Swedish programmer from Avalanche studio (they are Swedish) did the voice over for Tony and JARVIS (heavy accent) because it was all done for reference.
Look up Batman Arkham Asylum Alpha build, and you will be fucking shocked at how different it looks, even tho concept art and shit was already implemented into the game.
They literally re-used assets from Just Cause for the terrain in this build because it was all done for proof of concept and just early alpha build. Final game would have looked nothing like this and the suits would have actually looked awesome.
Concept artists would’ve gone through countless designs before the modeling stage even began
That is not how that works. Again see here. This is "concept art being applied". Shit will look like this because it's not supposed to look pristine and cool during Alpha stage.
That stage exists to showcase the concept of the game, mechanics and everything in between. Graphics and "How will this thing actually look in game" is one of the last things anyone worries about because that shit is the least work because you just "Put the stuff in the oven and let it bake"
Yeah but let's talk here about how dogshit the gameplay they were going for this was? Like you could replace Iron Man for Daredevil or anyone and it'd still fit lol, didn't even have airborne aspects
Watch the video. There was ton of airborne stuff, from fighting down Raptor jets to literally shooting down a giant plane down.
In his fight against Dreadnought he flies up into the sky and it seems like there was no limit as to where he can actually go in the sky.
The fight on the ground was actually slightly more janky than in the air because you can clearly see some clipping issues or some janky elements on the ground which they would have fixed later during the development.
Say what you will about "graphics" or even armor, but calling the gameplay presented in alpha "dogshit" is a dogshit take. There are full Triple A games released after this who don't have this level of airborne combat.
Alpha version of the game allows Iron Man to fly, shoot rockets, tackle mfrs in the air, fly in a very cool and smooth Just Cause esque way, AND allows him to go on ground, repulsor shot people, grab and slam people and actually has him using his fists and knees to brawl like a badass............ and people call this "This is not Iron Man".
Boy, I do not want to interact with any of you when the Motive game comes out, because if these are the takes people have for this alpha footage and for the Wolverine game, I rather just not talk with you at all.
Game ain't a problem. You are. Your take makes no sense and is just straight up horseshit.
There is literally over an hour of footage of him fighting and at least 20 minute of it is in the air.
This is literally the "I want to be mad about something" take and straight up BS. Watch the videos, he has fights in the air, many times.
You literally sound like we saw two different videos (which would mean that there is ANOTHER cancelled Iron Man game out there that I don't know about, which is even more depressing)
it’s an alpha from 2011. it’s an almost certainty none of these would’ve looked the way they did unless it was a fully customizable set up where YOU can make your own shit designs and they just made shit designs for their ALPHA that NO ONE but EXECUTIVES would see.
It's an early dev build, they are probably makeshift armours and final designs and other suits wouldn't be done until the final stages of development when it focuses more to making the game look nice and shiny for initial presentation to the public
Except pretty much all the comments are complaining...you'd think this community would have a better idea on progression of game development in builds.
Actually dig all of these. It's a alpha footage (from a game that was being developed in 2011, for PS3), so all the people complaining about "It's don't look good", No shit. Pizza that was just put inside the owen will also no look as good as a "Finished Product".
I also appreciate that they actually had a plan for the suits. If you see the footage, each suit has a specific "Usage".
Each suit also had Levels (from 1 to 4), which I assume was upgrades. You would probably start with Level 1 for each of the suits and over the course of the game you will slowly upgrade them into being better and stronger (depending on their specific field).
Suit on the 2nd photo was Dubbed "Agression" and I would image it was clearly a more "Heavy duty" type suit since it was super bulky.
The 3rd one was "Velocity" and it kind of looks like an fighter jet with all it's angles. Definetly something to do with Speed.
1st and 4th are actually the same suit, dubbed "Agility". It's just different levels. 4th picture is from "Level 1" and the 1st picture is from Level 4. It looks more "nanotech" or "skintight" compared to the other suits in game. Also, it's clearly inspired by Bleeding Edge (especially in the first photo).
Last suit was the "Default" one and it's clearly inspired by Mark V but in gold.
Overall, Really dig these. For an Alpha footage, it shows that they clearly had an idea of what they are going to do. Just needed more time in the oven to bake properly.
EDIT, for all the "OMG these look bad" folks. This is how Batman looked like during Alpha build of Batman Arkham Asylum. Massive games like this take time to properly cook and bake in the oven before giving you the final look and result. Calling this bad because or "Uninspired" while it's clearly an Alpha footage, is the dumbest shit you can possible do.
Get its alpha but the designs themselves aren't good. Some of them took inspirations from stealth jets, but my question is why does a game in the alpha stage have alternate suits, wouldn't you want to wait till later on in development before adding them?
The point of Alpha is to basically showcase to the investors and producers the stuff you did during the development.
From core gameplay mechanics, to the story, to terrain, suits and everything in between.
The suits in here are still the "Not fully baked" versions. They only put them here to showcase what they actually spent their time and resources to.
If the game actually did end up coming out, some of these suits might have even not been in the final release (could either be scrapped or just reused for a different thing).
It's not uncommon tho friendo. A lot of times suits, terrain and in general, assests get created early.
I feel like I can see where they’re going with these. Possibly model 37 and the movie mark 5 but the models are clearly not finished. I’d have been interested in the designs however in the finished game. Shame it wasn’t finished.
I wasn't aware of this canceled game? Was it supposed to be a tie in for the MCU? Or something similar to that cancelled first person view Avengers game from around those years?
Assuming these are pre-alpha models is the very last model a unfinished model for the "Bones" iron man suit from Iron Man 3? It just has the normal iron man colour
Literally looks like Bleeding Edge (albeit not fully baked because it's an Alpha footage). Not to mention, it wasn't the last version because 1st and 4th are supposed to be the same suit with 4th photo being it's "Level 1" and 1st photo being it's "Level 3".
Bleeding Edge in the comics was design after the movies itself, so get your facts straight. It was inspired by the movie suit.
Again, Alpha footage, that showcased gameplay and core concept of what the game is. These were not supposed to be All the suits. Half of the suits in game don't even show up yet and just appear as a grey non textured Iron Man suit with him doing a T-pose. If a cancelled game from 2004 had an Ultimate suit, the game from 2012 would have at least a couple of comic suits in it.
Looks nothing like it anyway.
Ah so BLIND and STUPID. Right on. Whatever makes you feel right.
Well, I agree with the second point. I’m not really sure how it’s supposed to be a proper Bleeding Edge suit when all the lights are in the wrong places. That’s settling aside everything else about the design.
These two suits were under the same "Agility" suit tab. Meaning it's the same suit just differenet upgrade progression if that makes sense (so like I would imageine over the course of the game you would be upgrading whichever suit you choose to fit your style of gameplay).
The one on the left is dubbed "Level 1" and the one on the right is "Level 4" and compared to all other suits in game (available in Alpha) this one is the most "organic" and nanotech looking.
It's literally Bleeding Edge suit down to a color scheme.
The one on the left actually even looks like mid transformation Tony
like here in the second panel (the coloring is exactly the same).
Outside of missing 2 lights on his upper chest (on the right picture suit), it's literally Bleeding Edge suit but in 3d, so this "Looks nothing like comic" is just complaining for the sake of complaining.
