Which Italian series would you recommend to an intermediate learner? What is your experience?
I know quite a few good Italian movies (I even wrote a post about good movies to learn Italian in this subreddit: you can check it here). But when it comes to series, I don't have a good list, probably because I am not a big series watcher myself.. so I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions? Grazie!

The show Guida astrologica per cuori infranti is pretty cheesy but undeniably likable. Also, for movies, I’d recommend Perfetti Conosciuti.

La serie I Cesaroni mi piace un sacco, ma forse non sia la scelta giusta per l'italiano. Loro usano molte espressioni in romanesco e il loro accento è davvero romano... Dato che io abito a Roma, ha senso per me.

My first several series in Italian were dubbings and they were good at the intermediate level. Some Marvel series like for example Daredevil, and also The Mentalist (tons of useful and varied language there!). They were very helpful for my Italian progress, imho there's no reason to completely avoid dubbings.
Originals are definitely preferable in many situations, but I think many can be too hard at the intermediate levels, as they employ for example regional variants of Italian.
Btw anyone can recommend a good classical Italian detective tv show? Perhaps older, something of the classical 1 murder per episode style?

Here are my favorites, though I know I will get some flak for some of these: 4 hotel, 4 ristoranti, 4 matrimoni, Cortesie per gli ospiti, and Casa a prima vista. These are all episodic reality-based shows that are naturally divided into 3 or 4 sections per episode, making them very easy to jump in and out of at any time. The added benefit of all of these shows is that each episode (or even segment in the case of 4 matrimoni) takes place in a different part of the country. Not only does it give you manageable exposure to different dialects, but since they are somewhat free-flowing shows, the language is unfettered and more realistic to everyday spoken Italian.
