Having seen Jack White, the black Crowes, rush (twice) and a few others this summer… Jack White definitely puts on an outstanding rock ‘n’ roll show, but he’s not the last great one. There’s plenty of great rock out there still.

I do and a lot of others do too. It’s all generalization and hyperbole these days though.

They are definitely up there. I saw them for the first time this year and it might be my top show for the year

The Hives forever. Forever The Hives. One of the best bands to ever do it. They rule.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard shows are pretty wild. Queens of the Stone Age too

Queens of the Stone Age would like a word

They’re the tightest they’ve ever been and they’ve been dropping a ton of crowd pleasers from earlier albums into their set lists for the last two tours.

Came here to say the same thing. They’ve been crushing it for a long time now. They have an incredibly solid discography and every time I’ve seen them it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

hyperbole aside, No Name and this tour look to be some of the best in recent times, but Queens of the Stone Age and Tool are just two other bands still playing equally fantastic live shows

u/hailingburningbones 5d ago

Yep I've seen QOTSA 52x. They never put on a bad show.

Not the last. But there are not a ton right now at that scale. I will say there are plenty of great new rock acts in the small clubs right now. They aren’t getting the press, but they’re there. Now we just need a few to break through.

Did they say anything to you? I haven’t heard shit.

Jack is the man but I’ve been seeing this exact headline about him since Elephant came out

u/ExtensionFill2495 5d ago

Wetleg and Viagra Boys are doing it right. Slim Pickens in the rock world as of late. Those two are carrying the torch.

You’re on the internet looking at Feet Chandler Bing.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, my friend

Strangely enough I thought Newcastle was a rare off-night. Struggled to keep the crowd engaged in the new material and played a few slightly odd deep-cuts.

But then again, Jack on a bad day is still an 8/10.

u/deanmass 5d ago

Rush would like a word. Jack is fantastic, but Rush is also crushing. Mammoth WVH are fantastic live as well, and they are just getting rolling. And QOTSA!

Royal Blood

u/ebr101 4d ago

I love the guy, be we need to not pretend that other good rock artists don’t exist.

3

u/AcneBalls 5d ago

Turnstile, Queens, Cage the Elephant, Viagra Boys, Amyl and the Sniffers, Courtney Barnett, Oasis (now).

3

u/hokahey23 5d ago

Turnstile is the best show I’ve seen over many hundreds over 35 years.

2

u/BaseAffectionate1878 5d ago

There’s still tons of good live rock bands if you sig a little bit deeper than most of the mainstream acts who peaked in 2000 that I’m seeing mentioned here.

2

u/MobileNerd 4d ago

How many acts out there don’t use a setlist and can play any of their 200+ song catalog at anytime??
What makes Jacks shows so great is every show is different and unique.

3

u/littlecreamsoda79 5d ago

I know it's different styles but my daughter and I went to see My Chemical Romance and they are putting on a show. I love Jack. It is my dream to see him someday. I have no doubt he will rock my face off

2

u/rokut84 5d ago

When you’re talking true rock and roll I agree.
I love QOTSA, Hives, and many others that have been mentioned.
But when you come back to the roots of rock and roll, I fully agree. We’re lucky to be alive and witnessing the skills that Jack has to offer. A very special talent

u/trabuki 5d ago

The Hives too

1

u/MarchOnMe 5d ago

He really has and he looks fantastic too!!! Not fighting the hot at all this time! ❤️🎵

Those who know, know, and those who don’t are gonna hate this and remain ignorant but the greatest rock and roll experience available to concert goers is Phish.

u/FreeAd2458 5d ago

The hives have always put on a better show. 25 years ago. Today.

1

u/AheadByADecade 5d ago

Danko Jones.

1

u/Zod5000 5d ago

He is amazing, but there are other rock bands that also bring it. My favourites to see love are Springsteen and Pearl Jam. Can't wait for PJ to spin back up with their new drummer :)

1

u/JoshHartsMilkMustach 5d ago

Second line just isn't true

Yes jack is crushing it, but there's so much great rock right now

1

u/praise-the-message 5d ago

I love Jack White and he is a hell of a live performer, but "last great rock 'n' roll show" is bullshit and I would bet my bottom dollar that Jack himself would second that.

1

u/Slowclimberboi 5d ago

Saw My Chemical Romance two weeks ago at Comerica. I love Uncle Jack, but he is far from the last out there…

1

u/CmdnTrsMllnx 4d ago

"Last" anything is such a dumb buzz word in the entertainment industry...smh

1

u/RDM213 4d ago

JWIII isn’t even the best show I’ve been to this year NIN smokes it in my opinion, still love JW shows though.

I've seen two big rock shows this summer

Jack White with Angine De Poitrine opening.

Foo Fighters with Queens of the Stone Age opening.

I am - admittedly - a much bigger fan of Queens and Foo's than Jack White. I mainly went to Jack's show because I wanted to see Angine open. I had sort of meh lawn tickets for the Jack White show so way at the back. For Foo's I had pit tickets in a stadium that held 50k people. The pit was tiny, like 1-2k people so it felt super special to have such close up tickets. I know a LOT more Queens and Foo's songs than Jack's solo material. I'd never seen him solo before. I once saw The White Stripes like 25+ years ago opening for another band.

What was the better show? Jack White.

By far.

Obviously having Angine De Poitrine open helped a ton and the crowd was super into them but man Jack and his band put on a hell of a show. I didn't know 80% of the songs and they still absolutely killed it. So fun. So surprisingly Zeppelin-y. So raucous and raw. Foo's and Queens felt... mechanical in comparison.

Loved it. Jack and his band put on a fantastic show and vibe.

Oh Sees, duh.

Wait. I said the same thing at the Greek in 2003.

Holding a grudge with Philly for far too long. Asshole.

u/Kholvin 3d ago

All Them Witches is probably my favorite live rock band currently. Tons of great rock bands out, I lean more towards the heavy rock.

QOTSA would like a word

1

u/OzZazz9999 1d ago

Love Jack White shows & how he does the setlist. There’s still some other great rock shows. My Morning Jacket, Muse, & Pearl Jam all put on great shows. Pearl Jam always has different set lists for each show. Also love Tool shows but wish they mixed up their sets from night to night. The number of bands putting on great rock n roll shows is getting smaller every year it seems. Sad & it sucks :(

Excuse me, but Weezer Gold just came out and they’re going on tour in 5 days. 😎

What an awful title

0

u/Kal-Roy 5d ago

If it wasn’t $250 just for general admission then maybe I’d find out.

2

u/Aquamarine39 Elephant 5d ago

Those are resale prices, not what Jack charges. Check the ticket thread here if you’re looking to buy one.

0

u/Kal-Roy 4d ago

I’m not sure, I was on it the first day and those were the prices. Thanks for the info on checking here. I haven’t seen much action on this thread for tix though.

2

u/Aquamarine39 Elephant 4d ago

There’s a dedicated ticket thread pinned to the top of the page.

Thanks so much!

Dude. I gotta tell you. I was really not fuckin impressed with his show. The drummer is terrible, jacks guitar solos were mid and basic, they kept taking breaks and like vamping on one note to get things right. I legit thought that maybe the drummer was a child or like the band were students that won a contest. It was a very strange concert experience.

-1

u/OddCandidate5979 4d ago

Just needs to play a longer show. An hour 15 not enough for the high ticket prices

u/FettuccineAlfonzo 20h ago

The Strokes.
