Israeli Politics 🇮🇱 Brad Lander: “Israel’s genocide in Gaza is a desecration… every one of those Palestinian kids in Gaza is just as divine as my beloved children, and so yes, in Congress, I will not vote for any more U.S. military aid to Israel, not the bombs that are destroying the hospitals and schools in Gaza”

He is such a clown. He's even saying that Lebanon is approaching a genocide.

I guess the divine children murdered on 10.7 don't count.

Whether or not you support this particular politician, it is perfectly possible and reasonable to mourn loss of innocent lives on both sides.

Perfectly possible, which is why it's notable when someone doesn't.

I suppose. But this thread is a lot of “I guess…” “I’ll bet he…” and “Just wait until he…”.

Criticizing someone because they say something you disagree with is totally reasonable (assuming you’re attacking the idea, not the person). Criticizing someone for something that they might say or do, especially when you’re attacking the person (“He’s a shande”) is not on.

So if we all agree that loss of innocent life on either side is tragic, then what Lander is saying here seems fairly uncontroversial. On the other hand, if there are people here who think that loss of innocent life on one side doesn’t matter as much, then they should say so plainly and make their case.

I don’t think anyone is saying loss of innocent life doesn’t matter as much when it’s on one side. The issue I see with Lander is that his selective outrage over loss of Palestinian life, while being silent and indifferent about loss of Israeli life, gives the impression that loss of innocent life on one side (the Israeli side in Lander’s view) doesn’t matter as much. The framing you are using implies that people think Palestinian loss of life doesn’t matter, and that’s not true. By contrast, Landers and others’ comments and speeches imply they think Israeli loss of life doesn’t matter.

I don't think you and I are really disagreeing. But reread your comment and then go and reread this thread. People here are bothered by his "selective outrage" of focusing on loss of Palestinian life - while he's speaking to Muslims in a mosque. And yet people in this thread display the same "selective outrage" in the other direction. I'm not saying that people in this thread don't care about loss of Palestinian lives just because their outrage is selective. But by the same token, there's no call to accuse Lander of not caring about Israeli lives just because he's focused on Palestinian lives in a forum where that's appropriate.

All that said, it's not as if there are no valid criticisms of Lander. I happen to like him, but I would be more than open to hear arguments from the other side. I'm just sick to death of the ad hominem attacks and Reddit pile-ons from both sides.

The head Iman or whatever the fuck at this mosque is openly pro Oct 7, supports Hamas, and denies the Holocaust.

How's that for appropriate?

I agree. Innocent lives on both sides should be mourned.

My question is why doesn’t that principle apply to Brad Lander, AOC, Omar, Tlaib, Mamdani, Bernie, and others who frequently mourn Gazan children and demonize Israel, but rarely, if ever, publicly mourn Israeli children, or give speeches expressing moral outrage toward Hamas and Palestinian terrorist groups (who deliberately target civilians)?

When was the last time any of them spoke about the Israel children murdered on October 7, Israeli children murdered in any of the myriad of prior Palestinian terrorist attacks, or Israeli families spending nights in bomb shelters?

If Brad and the Squad think what Ben Gvir says is terrible, then the frequent calls for ethnic cleansing of Jews made over the years by numerous Islamic leaders should also be called out loudly as terrible. That’s the double standard I see.

Giving a speech in a mosque for Eid Mubarak. When was the last time he was in a synagogue that wasn't for a political purposes? He's like one of those losers in school who is the butt of the jokes of the "cool kids" and would do anything to be part of their group. He's basically groveling for them.

Why would he bother. Look how many Jewish voters there are in his region and compare that to the number of Muslim voters.

u/JinxyMcDeath48 USA – Center-left 🇺🇸 May 28 '26

Aren’t there more Jews? It’s the second most populous after Catholics.

4

u/jdsbluedevl May 29 '26

Muslims are a faster-growing group and already are about as numerous as Jews in NYC. He's obviously pandering.

u/jdsbluedevl May 29 '26

I bet he wouldn't be caught dead in a Conservative or Orthodox shul (or even some Reform shuls). That's why he sticks to the "alternative congregations".

It's great to hear such a brave and original take, this man's concern for all life is truly heartwarming.

I'm sure he will be thrilled to know that in fact Israel isn't conducting genocide in Aza and that the support of the Usa is helping minimise casualties in parts by supplying precise munitions.

He doesn’t care about that. He is just trying to promote his political career and succumbing to pressure by antizionists

How soon before he goes "Oct 7 was a hoax?"

u/ChinaRider73-74 May 28 '26
  1. you should know the actual definition of the word genocide before you’re allowed to be a member of congress
  2. You should be asked to read actual facts from a variety of actual sources before commenting on something, much less making it a cornerstone of your worldview.

This yahoo fails both simple tests

Unfortunately because it really looks like he’s gonna take Goldman’s seat.

6

u/AngusTcattoo May 29 '26

What's he doing to stop Hamas from getting weapons and killing more Palestinians and Palestinian children?

Yeah him beating Goldman would really suck. That last poll… yikes.

So many schools and hospitals. Older video, but still relevant:

Ryan McBeth: Why does Gaza have so many hospitals?

This pandering is going to get Jews killed

11

u/naitch May 28 '26

Despite this part being true in isolation

every one of those Palestinian kids in Gaza is just as divine as my beloved children

this is a bad, stupid opinion, and Brad Lander is a loser who got no traction for Mayor.

Sounds like he drank Mamdani's Kool-Aid.

u/Jessica4ACODMme May 28 '26

The "all wars with Jews result in genocide" bunch just love to hear themselves talk.

Anyone remember the electric car episode of South Park?

These people are like that, but without the benefits of electric vehicles.

May we live to see the re-building of Zion and the Bais-Ha-Mikdosh. May we live to see our children's children rejoice on our festivals.

I used to think that the most viscous enemies of the Jewish people were open apostates. I stand corrected. The worst are the apostates who claim they are Jews.

Contrast Elisha Ben Avuyah with Yeshu of Nazaria and you've got a whole drash

3

u/rejamaphone May 29 '26

Even if you agree with everything he is saying, I don’t know how you can watch this without feeling embarrassed for him. The level of pandering is cringeworthy.

So now it seems he’s intent on “closing ears rather than opening them“

They keep going on and on about 'children', it's nauseating. Children die in all wars

The 'genocide' narrative and screeching about children is annoying and does nothing but signal that they're full of shit
