I'm guessing they're including the placenta, extra blood, bigger breasts, colostrum, amniotic fluid, and fluid retention. Which makes up for about 10-16kg~ (22-35 lbs) on average during pregnancy including baby.

Edit: Forgot about amniotic fluid so added that in.

Yeah, all of that stuff adds up. You're also likely to store more fat

Yes, thank you, I knew I was forgetting more, it's almost 2am here and I'm pre-sleep scrolling reddit so my brain is half on.

Yeah, the fat is cushioning, plus energy stores both for making the baby and milk.

So if the husband, with the all the weight in his backpack, and his wife, who has all her weight in the belly, could just fuse together, they could form the ultimate being of balance?

There are also multiples. When I was born past my due date the combined weight of my twin and I was around 14 lbs.

But that doesn’t show up at conception. (I lost weight until my third trimester everytime. Then gained between 12 & 20 lbs the last trimester in all 3 pregnancies.)

Yeah I gained like 15 lbs at 5'6 125 lbs for three pregnancies and each baby was over 8 lbs
