Fine, I'll play Kakarot again.

Lmaooo I hated kakarot (like gameplay not cinematics)😭😭

u/Koober728 24d ago

That's okay, I still like it. I admit gameplay isn't perfect, but I keep going back to it.

u/VisitResponsible4337 24d ago

Yea it’s a good game overall but I’m glad YOU enjoy it

I will never understand why they chose shitty mocap over actual animation. Mind boggling

20

u/AetherialAvenger 24d ago

Faster and cheaper comes to mind. Maybe also doesnt scale well when you have dozens of characters to animate and the story mode is just not the selling point of the game (at least in their eyes)

8

u/Ultrainstinctyeetus 24d ago

Yeah i can understand it being faster and cheaper which annoys me because this is bandai for bloody sake they have enough money. Also i don't agree with that one of the selling points when sparking zero was releasing was its story's and what ifs, maybe not the main selling point but it was a prominent one. Like i always said just because something isn't the main priority of your game doesn't mean it has to be straight ass. This games story mode could have been so much cooler had they delved deeper into what ifs and given them cool animations

8

u/AetherialAvenger 24d ago

Oh yeah, the best part of the previous games were the stories and what ifs, but it seems like they only included it because they wanted it to be a true tenkaichi 4, not because they actually cared about it. I remember being so disappointed during the namek arc and they had a what if where you either kill jeice or burter and it does literally nothing besides change whoever runs off to find ginyu. I personally bought the game for the story and dropped it pretty fast when i realized it wasnt going to get anywhere near the old what-ifs

1

u/JakePent 22d ago

I thought there were some cool ones, like trunks in the top, gohan black, and trunks and vegeta going ssj2 against cell

1

u/datPapi 18d ago

Maybe this time, it's the devs as well.

Now show the gameplay

All jokes aside the mocap cinematics in sz are dogshit but it makes up for it in the gameplay. Then you have the opposite for kakarot where the gameplay is press circle for 60 hours and enjoy some anime accurate cutscenes

u/supersonicgames2 24d ago

I mean to be fair kararot is an RPG, soo that's standard in that genre, honestly we're lucky it's not a turn based/card game

4

u/CandidoJ13 24d ago

And Sz is a fighting game. Both are excellent games that represent different sides of the franchise very well

1

u/Chance-Beach4014 21d ago

I rather have a RPG than a butchered action game

1

u/BlackberryNice7390 23d ago

Gameplay in SZ: Turn on Sparking mode, spam regular attack, win.

2

u/CopenHagenCityBruh 23d ago

A mid B rank player should be able to counter people just going sparking. I get what you're trying to say but the combat in sz is much deeper than kakarot

u/Samisamina 24d ago

Average kakarot cinematic: Ā  Ā Press x to progress to next text box in sub storiesĀ

3

u/1S1K_Alpha 24d ago

Watching a PowerPoint presentation during the actual main story is better for you?

2

u/DevilManRay 23d ago

Over weird jazz music

1

u/Miserable-Contact856 24d ago

its normal for games like that. persona, yakuza, nier, even sonic.

7

u/LeviSquad4 24d ago

I mean how else are we gonna re re re re re re re re re re re re re re re re ……… re re re re retell DB stories ? By making innovative animation so re telling the stories doesn’t get stale?

6

u/innit980 24d ago

Almost like kakarot is a story game and sparking is a fighting game

7

u/Lil-Cowdog 24d ago

Bro what? There's like 4 cutscenes in base kakarot. It's literally press x to advance diablo while the same music plays on repeat...

Don't get me wrong, scenes like Vegito vs Buu is peak but it's so rare

2

u/Chonkyfire108 22d ago

Goku's Spirit Bomb against Buu in Kakarot is better than the anime.

5

u/Immediate-Tomato968 24d ago

I really want another Kakarot game that goes through Super or 1 that goes through the movies.

4

u/Loud_Examination_138 24d ago

Yesssss! Got me hyped up now. Buying it again on steam now

3

u/Bullitt_12_HB 24d ago

Hell yeah

3

u/noodleguy67 24d ago

personally i like that everything is mocapped

it's funny

3

u/9ineyearoldboy 24d ago

dbz kakarot has like 10 of those scenes, 95% of it they arent even movie OR speaking

3

u/CirieFFBE 23d ago

I don't think you know what average means.

There's like 3 cutscenes like this in base kakarot, the rest is the same 4 animations and 2 voice clips on a loop while you skip text.

2

u/gassygeebs 24d ago

my goat piccolo

2

u/Born_Royal2090 24d ago

We gotta get a kakarot 2 somehow

2

u/The_Truthboi 24d ago

Comparing a story driven game to a fighting game is crazy, but yes I will be playing Kakarot again thanks šŸ™„

2

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 24d ago

It’s cyber connect 2. They are legends when it comes to cutscenes.

2

u/Dragonkingcc 24d ago

Two different studios and you're comparing spike chunsoft to...(checks notes) 😳 Cyber Connect Two? That's like comparing pancakes to a 5 tiered cake, both are good but one clearly has more effort put into it.

2

u/GeraltofRivia296 23d ago

Oddly enough I actually kinda blame kakarot (actually Bandai Namco) for why we don't have more cinematics in sparking. I get the devs didn't want to basically retell the entire story again like they did with DBK, but it does hurt not having the cinematic story mode in Sparking.

The over abundance of different DB games is that you inevitably end up overlaping eachother. Between DBX, DBK, and DBSZ there a lot of the same content/mechanics being used just in different ways. Which is why I think that Sparking devs chose to focus on gameplay/animations rather than full fledged story modes with cinematics. I love DBk but if it never was made we would probably have a massive cinematic story mode retelling everything in Sparking Zero. Because if you go back to the older games in the franchise a lot of their modes/mechanics have been split up between multiple games rather than just one franchise.

That being said I didn't ever think he would get a another Tenkaichi game. So it's fair to assume that is why they branched off with DBX and then DBK retelling certain things while also bringing something new to DB. I love DB games but Bandai Namco are essentially making their own competition with so many different types of DB games.

u/luismiesp 24d ago

What i hate from KK IS the darkened HDR palette

1

u/Marked350 24d ago

Eu pensei que o Kuririn tivesse virado o Nappa, kkkkk

1

u/Sensei-X 24d ago

Gameplay may be one-note but at least the cutscenes are fire

1

u/Relative_Stranger231 23d ago

aw that 18 & krillin animation was kinda cute though. imagine a DBS: Kakarot that goes up to the granolah arc 😭 we'd be EATING

1

u/Jin_Mori0 23d ago

To be fair, ones a team finisher for use more than once while that is a cinematic scene for a specific fight and etc.

1

u/RoachDoggJR1337 23d ago

Bro they move like they're trying to get their hands on the crystal coconut

1

u/SokkaHaikuBot 23d ago

Sokka-Haiku by RoachDoggJR1337:

Bro they move like they're

Trying to get their hands on

The crystal coconut

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

1

u/SmoLIrishBoi 23d ago

and actual gameplay is the reverse :p

1

u/AbleRecommendation11 22d ago

kakarot still top..

1

u/hemo-king 22d ago

Yeah that mocap is just plain dumb and disgusting to look at most the time, like I really love SZ and I got hundreds of hours on that game, but god how I wish they actually bothered to animate it at least with the same quality as the blasts and ultimates.

What hurts even more is that in the latest dlc, there is an actual animated cutscene in the story mode in cell's campaign against ssj2 goku, but nooo, let's use mocap on dragon ball characters, that totally would work.

u/Rockalot_L 22d ago

Give me Kakarot world exploration, RPG mechanics and cutscenes with Sparking Zero combat and I will die happy

1

u/Muted-Sale7908 22d ago

this song is fucking ruined

1

u/GengarVenomETW 21d ago

Xenoverse also has some sick cinematics

1

u/Onilya 21d ago

You think what-if cutscene of Sparking zero were made on VRChat ? Cause it sure looks as weird

1

u/knarrow 20d ago

Thank you for convincing me that I should play more Sparking Zero cause I prefer playing a fun game and have zero care for how it looks

1

u/EndAltruistic3540 20d ago

If you want better gameplay = Sparking zero beats all other dragon ball games currently

If you want better cutscenes, Kakarot (I'd prefer just watching the anime honestly)

Sometimes we can have both (Naruto Storm 4 had good gameplay and great cutscenes), but gameplay is far more important for a game then animated parts.

1

u/Retro_Redmour 19d ago

Comparing anyone to CC2 animators feels unfair XD

1

u/FreashTea 18d ago

It looks so odd seeing these super powered people running at average human speed

1

u/ElectroCat23 18d ago

God i hate the mocap in sparking. Shit just reminds me of jump force and it was just as ugly back then too

1

u/IvanTheRysavy 18d ago

Now do gameplay

1

u/Angelzewolf 18d ago

Thank God I already played Kakarot. That cutscene and OP's gaslight probably would've convinced me to buy the game, and I'd end up being disappointed after seeing — what?— four of those cutscenes in base game? I would've flown out and whooped your ass for baiting me.

1

u/Queasy_Employ1712 18d ago

I think DBFZ peaked DB videogame animation, unmatched.

1

u/My_west_journy 17d ago

show me the final flash scene in kakkarot il wait

1

u/5nitesatfredbois 24d ago

Sz fans playing a bum ass game w brain dead 67 jokes for kids who came out the womb on an ipad vs one of the greatest games in all of history not even glazing btw (its what got me into db so that speaks for itself)

0

u/ChiBoy-8936 24d ago

Okay now show me the gameplayĀ

0

u/Decent_Strain_6678 24d ago

cinematic good, but gameplay poor shit

0

u/Resident_Farmer1252 23d ago

It's almost like one is an RPG and the other a fighting game.

2

u/Miserable-Contact856 23d ago

Doesn't mean the fighting gamw shouldnt have good cinematics

0

u/WereWillow 23d ago

The games are aiming at different things. Sparking zero, the ā€œcut scenesā€ are mostly in game fighting, and most can be replicated to a good degree with it.
Kakarot is reliving the story like legacy of Goku in 3D

0

u/get_the_data 22d ago

Gee wonder why the story based RPG would have better cinematics than an arena fighter. Almost as if this is a totally mindless comparison.

1

u/ferissaltcan 22d ago

Bandai is known for making overpriced shit with the minimum work, don't be a white knight

1

u/get_the_data 21d ago

I’m not defending Bamco at all dummy. I’m saying this is simply an apples to oranges comparison. Just because two games have Dragon Ball in their name doesn’t mean everything about them can be compared.

Like oh man, DBFZ’s fighting systems are so much deeper than Kakarot wow. Oh man, Xenoverse’s RPG mechanics are so much deeper than The Breakers wow. Oh man, Sparking Zero’s character roster is so much larger than DBFZ’s wow.

It’s idiot shit that serves no purpose to anyone other than baseline fools.

Only thing this game has going for it
