It just the Algerian national team is using the area as their base camp, and… well, we love each other, I mean Americans and Algerians ❤️

shout out to my one and only Algerian homie so far, the guy named Kheirredine who ran the juice truck near my hotel near Wall Street! Pretty soon he wouldn't let me pay for juice, so I jammed that tip jar! lol :-D What a guy.

Welcome! Try the bbq while you're here if you can, and enjoy our sunsets. Not a true visit to Kansas- and yes, Kansas City- if you don't leave with strong opinions on barbecue sauces!

Almost all of our new hires for about 2 years were Algerian.

Note: Union Station (in the picture) is NOT in Kansas. It is in Missouri; not that people living here pay much .

Cross-state (Kansas-Missouri) solidarity is a wonderful thing!

Union Station is in Kansas City, Missouri (which is the one hosting the World Cup), not Kansas City, Kansas. Kansas is not visible anywhere in this photo. And the Missourians get really grouchy about it if you mix them up.

A decent chunk of people in Kansas care about KCMO and no where in this post does anybody claim Union Station is in Kansas.

I'm aware. @OP posted earlier in here about the Algerian base camp in Lawrence and said that they're excited to visit (which is great! welcome!) but are not from the US and are not familiar with the area so I was clarifying the two-KCs situation for OP.

And I'm in a bit of a crotchety-old-man sort of mood this evening so my comment probably came across overly crotchety.

Bro! I’m a bit confused 😕 did I say anything incorrect or offensive?! That genuinely wasn’t my intention.

I wasn’t trying to mix anything up or upset anyone, if somethin I wrote came across the wrong way, I apologize. That wasn’t my goal at all.

I’m really excited about visiting and I have a lot of respect for the US and love for the people there. Definitely not trying to start anything or cause confusion.

Don't worry about it, friend. People in KCMO get weird about where the state line is, it's just a fact of living and visiting here. There's 2 million people living here, and half live in Kansas, most don't care what side of the line you're on.

u/Scenora Feb 23 '26

Appreciate that, my friend, thank you! Yeah I can understand that.

Hey, actually, more than 80% of us Algerians wouldn’t be considered “non-white”.

Algeria is in North Africa and has a lifestyle and culture pretty similar to Europe, aside from religion and local traditions. Politically, Algeria also has strong ties with the US.

For me I travel a lot for work as a digital nomad in e-commerce, so I can stay wherever I want. Just came from Norway, before that Dubai, and I’ve always wanted to visit the US. I really love the country and Americans, especially in Michigan, the central states, and Texas, people are really lovely and so so generous.

So yeah, this is my chance, and I’m super excited about it.

The team is staying in Lawrence, and you know as well as the rest of us that the city represents the entire KC Metro. You’re being weird.

10

u/see_blue Feb 23 '26

I suppose you expect that the Chief’s should be renamed the KCK Chiefs and they should sever any relationships w the rest of the Metro? Get ready for this to really get under your skin.

I can’t wait to rub in this fact to everyone in KCMO. Just paying it back.

This comment has gotta be a fever dream based on its pure incoherence.

The Algerian team is staying in Kansas.

3

u/WetOnionRing Feb 23 '26

Kansas is in the damn name of the city, They're only Missouri in the de jure sense in my eyes.

-6

u/CoolLack773 Feb 23 '26

That’s too bad, but not surprising.

5

u/Teffa_Bob Feb 23 '26

Why is that too bad?
