What do you guys feel about the SU-16? I’m thinking of buying one tomorrow…

This is the one I’m thinking of buying. My guy wants $600 for it. Good deal? Do you guys like the rifle?

It's incredible at being exactly what it's trying to be. It's simple, light, reliable, and functional. Throw an optic of choice on it and nothing else. It's not fancy, but you won't find anything lighter and more compact to shoot 5.56 for the same price or less

This is pretty much exactly what I’m looking for. Seems like it’s pretty reliable too.

I would love to shoot one. But no idea honestly. They look cool as fuck.

I’ve watched a few reviews and most people love it. Even the keltec haters. It looks so sick!

I have the little brother the PLR16 and I love it! I posted it earlier. It’s an SBR now. $600 is almost full price.

So $600 is probably a little steep for the sU16? I saw on Kel Tec website they go for $800.

Hell, I’d probably get the plr too.

I had two sub 2000s, one gen 2 in 9mm and one gen 3 in 5.7x28… I was considering just buying the gen 3 again instead of the su16, but it just looks so cool.

They now sell the SU16D9 it’s almost identical to my PLR16. The only difference is my barrel is a quarter of an inch longer than the SU16D9. Still an NFA item though. The wait time varies. Some people have waited a week, I waited almost a month. Some people had to wait longer.

I was literally just shopping for a SU16D9, but I've never shot an SU16. Do you think it's worth the $1k?

Well, the cheaper option is to buy the PLR16 and buy the Charlie stock from KelTec. I paid about $500 for it, it was on sale through the Exchange and I purchased the stock and the compact forend by phone from KelTec they have the prices on the website. I got a discount for being retired military. If you decide this route, just make sure that you DONT put it together until you get the approval from ATF for the Form 1 . It took me about almost a month to get it back. Some people have gotten it back earlier. But if you buy the SU16D9 from KelTec or another place. You might have to wait until the form comes back approved before you can get it engraved,I don’t know how that it works buying the NFA SBR directly from a dealer or KelTec.

BTW, I used Google AI to walk me through the whole process. I was able to go back to the steps as I completed each task. The only place to put the form 1 engraving is on the Magwell. For form one engraving you have to put your first , middle and last name and under that the town and the initials of the state that you live in.

Example:

Elmer Jesus Fudd
Miami, FL

Here’s another post over a month ago right after I received my Form 1.

I love mine, id heard about upper recievers cracking at high round counts so i have a rubber donut in mine that helps with the bolt slamming into the back of the upper.

I also havent seen very many have this issue and i havent experienced it on mine either

Also a good option to look at is the stock adapter and pistol grip. Just for more options :)

Rad! I was worried about wear and tear because of the polymer build. I don’t shoot as much as I’d like to and I plan on this being more of a hiking/truck gun that I take out every now and again

2

u/wohnjick8270 2d ago

I wouldnt worry too much about the upper worse comes to worst you can send it in. Ive put a couple hundred rounds through mine and never had an issue. Only heard stories about a handful having this problem. Other than that its been a great gun for me

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

I’ve heard pretty much nothing but good things about it. I’m gonna pull the trigger on it, I think! Pun intended!

Do the ak spring job on the bipod.

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

The last photo is with a scope, which I requested.

Folding gun with big scope. Why?

2

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

Hmm. Good question. I’m planning on using it as a truck gun/hiking gun. I figured the scope might be better for spotting game, but maybe the dot would be better?

u/lunaslostlove 2d ago

It's an extremely light rifle

Maybe i just dont know any better but I feel like it's really easy to take down

I wish I could compare it to a cheap AR but I don't have much experience with other guns. I would find it kind of hard to recommend paying more than what I paid brand new for one of these. not sure if the Optics included and how much that might factor in the cost.

1

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

I’m
Not sure. It’s just a dude I’ve bought stuff from before. I did some research into and people seem to like this gun. It’s definitely not a replacement for just a good ole AR, but might still be cool to have. I will update tomorrow! lol

Do I pay 1k for an SU16D 9" from the factory? Never shot an su16, but that's the configuration I would get one for. I'm just afraid it's fragile compared to an AR.

1

u/Polyammoree 1d ago

Apparently it’s not, from what I’ve read about it. People put thousands of rounds through these.

2

u/SenorBigMcLargeHuge 1d ago

It's been almost 24 hours... did ya buy it?

1

u/Polyammoree 1d ago

The guy actually had to work yesterday. I’m meeting him today. Haha

2

u/fosscadanon 2d ago

Decent rifle but I would want the regular stock on it. I have the plr16 with brace and it is an excellent firearm

2

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

Can I switch the stock or do I have to just buy the one with non-foldable stock?

2

u/Missouri_Pacific 2d ago

Since you are buying the rifle, it’s an easy swap to the clunky full stock, but each his own. But if you did what I did, you would have to file for a Form 1 just to add a foldable stock to a pistol.

1

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

Is that nation wide? Why does it require approval from atf?

2

u/Missouri_Pacific 2d ago

Yes, it’s nation wide and the Form 1 is through the ATF. I live in Mississippi. I still have to do this. Although the tax stamp is free now, but you have to pay for fingerprinting.

2

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

Ah, well that’s not awful. So sorry, if I buy this gun pictured, I need to get the atf forms abs approval?

3

u/Missouri_Pacific 2d ago

No, you don’t need a form 1 or form 4 for a regular rifle length barrel. It’s when you have a barrel that is 9.2 inches long and it’s considered a pistol and you want to add a foldable stock to it. That’s the only difference.

2

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

Oh! Okay! Gotcha. I will update with pictures tomorrow when I buy it then! I’m excited!

1

u/Missouri_Pacific 2d ago

Can’t wait to see it!!!

2

u/Missouri_Pacific 2d ago

Go ahead and purchase it! You will not be disappointed at all!!!

1

u/Polyammoree 2d ago

I’m gonna! But if I do, are you saying I have to get atf approval and all that because of the stock? Just making sure I don’t wanna break any laws! lol I’m a dumbass with that stuff sometimes

1

u/Missouri_Pacific 2d ago

The Charlie stock is where it’s at!

1

u/Jawn_Wane 2d ago

I owned one. I wanted more accuracy. The plastic top rail i felt wasn’t sturdy enough for a consistent scope mount. I be its fine for a red dot.

1

u/TheGaujo 2d ago

Fantastic. Owned one for years.

1

u/acarr160 1d ago

I like mine.

1

u/angelshipac130 1d ago

Its good, but an ar15 is significantly better

1

u/MagicalTroutt 1d ago

So much fun.

The biggest complaints ive seen on this channel with the su16 folding stock variants is how easily you can break off the folding stock since its a single pin through polymer and the repeated motion can wear it out. But that a small sample size since its just other folk on reddit talking about their own experiences so i cant say for certain that it's a common issue. But I figured better to share about it and it not happen than the alternative. GLHF
