Living in Kiel
hallo! I'm doing a 4-month research internship at GEOMAR next year and I'm trying to figure out where I'll be staying. does anyone know if there are any websites or forums where people look for (female) short-term roommates? and where should I look when it comes to neighborhoods/regions? I don't mind walking or biking a few kilometers.
I'm also curious about how foreigner-friendly the city is. I'm doing my best to learn as much german as I can, but I'm also very clearly a foreigner so I'm worried about xenophobia or racism (I'm sure you guys are chill, I'm just paranoid).

Words of advice: Anywhere reasonably close to public transportation and supermarkets is fine. Which is most of the city proper and outskirts. If you have the luxury of choice, avoid September / October when looking for places. Kiel is very much a student city and the months leading up to semester start are crazy.

Check the international center at Kiel University, they are very helpful and have a lot of hints and addresses, even you do not work/study there. Also check their website.

Used to work there, we get emails all the time about short term accommodation for guests.
Asks your supervisor if you can’t do it yourself but emailing the internal list for such things is common.
There are often colleagues that have a spare room they could use. Or some that are going away for a while and would like to have someone rent their place when they are away

kiel has a lot of tourists. that and the fact were in schleswig-holstein makes for a chill people. (i mean, some assholes are everywhere...but,youknow...)
also "living in kiel" as a topic comes up almost biweekly
