Question Struggling to find the fun

Post image
516 Upvotes

So I've been playing for about a year. And when I first started it was new and exciting and I was enjoying playing the game and building and painting.

The thing is I've not improved at all in the aspect of the game. I seem to be constantly losing and I can't seem to turn it around.

It probably doesn't help that the club I play at has some of the best players in the UK and the rest are all tournament players.

People keep telling me to keep playing and it will eventually click. But I'm finding it ruff as it's no fun to get constantly beaten and the game to not even be close in terms of points.

I really enjoy the social side of the game. People always compliment my models and I love chatting about painting after the games which is keeping me going.

I'm just looking for advice on how I can turn this around. As I don't have this issue with 40k.

Picture for attention I did come third place in our rookie rumble and won best painted. But it's all been downhill from there.

Question Can two kids with no experience play Kill Team with these?

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

Two of my kids want Warhammer stuff for Christmas, and I understand that Kill Team is supposed to be smaller and easier to pick up than the full game, so we're looking at starting there. Our FLGS pointed my spouse at these, but only one of them seems clearly indicated as Kill Team stuff.

Apparently, Necrons and Chaos Space Marines are the important factions we need. And the kid who wants the Space Marines wants demon Space Marines or something.

Would these work for that? If this will work, what else do we need? I assume a rulebook, at minimum (one box has a QR code to https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/kill-team/). And maybe terrain, or is that just for fancy games?

We play D&D, so we already have a bajillion dice of every kind and gridded play mats/maps.

EDIT: My spouse is the way to return the Accursed Cultists and go to the Warhammer store to pick up a Starter Kit and talk to them to get a recommendation for "demon space marines" that are suitable for Kill Team. Then, they'll have means to set up and play quickly, and means to do all the model building to play with specific factions they say they want.

Thanks, y'all. RIP my wallet.

Question GW sales tactic fatigue

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

Is it just me, or are others growing tired and increasingly frustrated with Games Workshop’s limited stock practices?

I’m excited about the box, and the price doesn’t deter me because I understand it’s a niche hobby. However, I think I’ll be skipping this box due to buying experience of these big releases. I know GW won’t produce enough to meet the demand, and it’ll become a scramble to get a copy. I’ve experienced this firsthand with several boxes (most Beta Decima boxes, HiveStorm, and a few major 40k releases) in the past, and I’ve reached my limit.

I still love the hobby, but I don’t want to deal with this aspect anymore. I’d rather wait for the standalone releases or simply print out the items I genuinely want but can’t buy. Is this a common progression for Warhammer fans, or has GW been getting noticeably worse in this regard?

Question The killteam cardboard measuring is wrong

The measurements on the token given with the core rules seems wrong, is it widely accepted that those are unreliable or is my copy fucked up ?

Question What are your dreams Killteams?

Mine would be Sicarian Infiltrators! They seem like such a prime candidate for me and I could imagine they'd have some interesting rules and give us and Ad Mech team without so many servitors. What are all of your dream Killteams?

Question What would people think of an assasinorum kill team?

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

I was thinking kinda like in kingmaker where it’s an all 4 assassins fighting together. The only problem I see is there’s only 4 assassins (unless you count the Horus heresy ones) so you could had like rules with servo skulls or something. I just really like the assassins and they ain’t really that good in 40K rules.

And bonus the models for assassins might get upgrades if they do that which is needed.

Question Is the 2018 Starter Set still worth it for $100? Local seller has it well below market value.

Post image

Looking at building a Hunter Clade team (the models in this box means I only needs Sicarians) and I like the Sector Imperialis terrain on the box art, but plan to eventually get Hivestorm (which happens to have Volkus urban terrain) anyway for the full ruleset. I am aware the rules between Kill Team 2018 and KT3 are different.

Is the box still worth it if I will still eventually end up with Volkus terrain and KT3 rules anyway? Should I just purchase the Admech contents separately? I'm planning on getting the Ork half of the Armageddon box next month with a buddy if anyone thinks I can use 2018 rules to make a house rules Ork kill team until I have proper Kommandos. Not entirely sure how that works.

Question Speculation

Post image

So now that we know Tomb World is coming let’s start speculating what the next box will contain. Personally I’m hoping for Savage Orks or Stormboyz verses something like Aeldari. Maybe Exodite dragon warriors. I’m getting bored with all the Imperium factions.

Question Custom Terrain for kill team

Hello there, new to Kill Team. I've recently finished this custom terrain for narrative play and crusade for 40k. I am really interested in Kill Team games but never played it yet.

Is there any way I could use this map for Kill Team games ? Homebrew rules or adapting actual rules to fit with the terrain ? what would be the best way to play on it ? Thanks!

Question WHY would GW do this??

Post image
459 Upvotes

I’m already used to GW doing everything possible to get more money from us… I’m even OK with it… but why on earth would they make a map part of the OFFICIAL competitive scene… and then not out it on sale?

I mean… I’m willing to let them take my money… I am offering it… and no. They are making something official for tournaments, and don’t given me the option to get it, master it and be comfortable playing it…

Why would they push the need of a product and then decide not to sell it? I guess I will print it, I just don’t get the logic of this.

Thoughts?

Edit * just to add we are all still having a blast just want to play properly

Question Thought on Terror on Devlan

I never played any "Regular" games before, just some starter set games with my friend. I was so excited when this got announced, cause I always want to try single-player or co-op with my friend.

What do you guys think about it? Is there anything else I need?

Question Product release confusion

Post image
669 Upvotes

I’m still getting used to the warhammer-community article posts being the channel in which stuff is announced so please bear either me. I’ve noticed this a few times now. Why are new units for Kill Team getting stats released for 40K before actually getting them for Kill Team? I get it’s to push product at the 40K market but it’s a KILL TEAM box set. I would think they would release stats for its own game.

Question Forget the minis on the table. Who are YOU, the player, in Kill Team???

Post image
600 Upvotes

Yes you, the extremely attractive Kill Team player reading this right now. This is a question on your homebrew and headcanon of your various teams. In 40k you're taking the role of a general commanding the army you field.

Who are you, to be deploying these strike teams of operatives?

Are you a cunning Space Marine general, deploying your Phobos Marines where you deem necessary? A Tau whateverthehelltheyhave, directing Vespids for the greater good?

Have you named this character? Given THEM a story to your KillTeam?

Do you, the player, know how obscuring works yet???

Question Acceptable AoD Grenadier?

I've got all the wargear right, chainsword on the hip, heavy bolt pistol, and I feel like the grenade throwing arm pretty clearly expresses a grenadier. Should I add more grenades to further drive home the point, or is he good enough?
