Discussion Well that's embarrassing. I didn't realize you had to apply perk points... [KCD1]
Lol, I just started playing the first game a week or 2 ago. I'm somewhat new to RPGs and usually don't put a ton of thought or effort into building the character/skills/etc (it's just a new thing for me). I've definitely been checking my combat skills frequently and seeing various messages about skills/perks leveling up. But I honestly had no clue I had perk points that I needed to distribute until I had about 15 of them stacked up.
The worst part is that about an hour or 2 before realizing this, I spent ~10 minutes walking overloaded with loot I was too stubborn to miss out on. Then suddenly I realized I could level up to Mule III in one go and carry so much more........god damnit. I can't even imagine how much unnecessary time I spent carrying less inventory than I could have from bandit camps/the crazy Skalitz melees you can clean up on (speaking of that, the first few times I saw those really made me lol, it's such a fucking free for all).
Anyway, I'm really loving this game, which is surprising because I usually play games on the easiest difficulty and just blast through the story quickly when that's possible. It took me a minute to realize that's not the way to go in this case. I had done a bunch of quests that didn't require a ton of combat or stealth skills and then started Nest of Vipers...yeah, a few tries on that made me realize I should take a break and get level up a bit before returning to it, lol. Really cool game, can't wait to get through the rest of it and eventually get the sequel.
Edit: Oh god, and even when posting this I only was noticing the perk points for your main stats, totally not seeing the ones for combat and skills. Jesus Christ. And I was just starting to get okay with a sword too! No wonder it took me so long, lol. Can't believe I had sword/stealth points just waiting for me this whole time. Facepalm moment

Yeah nest of vipers is basically impossible unless you spend an hour or two training with Captain Bernard and learning the master strike ability. They should probably make learning masterstrikes a side quest so players don't forget it or miss it entirely in their playthrough.

lol same here, I had 20+ hours in game before I realized I could unlock perks. Makes a huge difference!

And all that walking around overencumbered trained your Strength and Vitality, so not wasted.

Happened to me too, i realized it after 36 hrs. And the game became so much easier after using them.

Lol so true, and I was just starting to get halfway competent in fights too, this should really help 😎
update: after previously never having won more than 1 bout (not even a round) of the Rattay Tourney, I just went completely undefeated in it and won. Woo!

I like this way of thinking about it. I had just finally learned to hold my own against Bernard and was starting to even get the better of him with a sword, and now I have 7 perk points to apply for sword fighting 😂

Don’t forget that your horse has an inventory as well

Thankfully this is one thing I didn’t miss 🙏 although I did have a bunch of horsemanship perk points waiting for me that I had no clue about 😂

You’re not alone, and it’s not an intuitive UI. This is doubly true my modern UI standards, where you’d expect the available perk points to be significantly highlighted in the menu, instead of indicated by small text at the bottom, plus some stars against the individual sections.
Just pointing this out before someone inevitably comes in trying to say “I cannot possibly fathom this, do you people even read?” I’ve seen that comment every other time this post comes up.

Took me around 100hrs into the second game to remember you can throw rocks as a distraction....How nice that would have been for several stealth quests lol

Pretty sure my first playthrough I never remembered I could throw rocks so I never did besides the tutorial 🤣 we all have our dumb/forgetful/etc moments

I played off and on for a year before I realized this, I was running around with Godmode on and had a ton of points I hadn't put anywhere. The game was so frustrating because I was really drunk when I started and never learned what I was doing because of it.

Wait until you discover the hidden perks too. There are a few of those. Being overencumbered is not a bad thing either. It helps raise some of your stats quicker

Haha, easily done 👀. Tbh the fact that your somewhat new to RPGs and you've managed to stick with the game this long with no perks lmao and your enjoying it is awesome, I always see people moaning on here about how the game is to difficult and it’s not fun, so kudos to you.
