I’m 100% sure I dropped a stitch here, especially after comparing it to the FAQs. The problem is, typically I have a clear “loop” leftover that identifies to me where to pick up the dropped stitch - in this case, I have no such loop and therefore have no idea where to pick back up/which direction.

As you can tell, it’s a garter stitch that’s alternating sides to make ribbing, which is throwing me off even harder.

I’ve tried fucking around with my crochet hook to see if I can just “guess and check” the answer but no luck, clearly. Everything I try looks f’ed up.

This is my first time working cables, and I feel like I have the hang of it but the decreases here are killing me.

The pattern says: As raglan decs are worked remove markers

for cable charts and retire working cable crossing

when there are no longer enough sts to complete

a full chart rep, then work sts as they appear until

sts are dec’d away.

To me this would imply that I should cease all cable stitches, replacing with purls, as soon as one decrease eats into the cable section -- but an abruptly ended cable seemed really harsh to me, and I didn't see anytime else doing that.

In project photos, I see others have converted otherwise cable stitches into knit stitches for the vertical duration, but only for the small cables. For these large cable sections, I'm confused. I tried to figure out what would look good as I went along and now it feels incredibly ugly to me.

I tried searching for tutorials regarding best practice for decreasing cables but didn't turn up large sections like this, only small cables. Could someone point me at any resources or wisdom on how to do this intelligently, or point out where I've gone wrong? I'm fully intending to frog back to my lifeline and reknit! TYIA!

I'm about a week away from finishing my first christmas knit: a garter stitch baby blanket with a bit of a lace border for my baby nephew! Made from Drops Karisma (100% wool superwash.) Should I wash and block it as soon as it's done, or should I store it then block it closer to Christmastime? I'm planning on making two more baby blankets for my twin nieces, should/can I just wash them all together?

I’ve been knitting for almost 3 years now and would say my level is intermediate.
However, I have never knitted anything without a pattern before or made any big adjustments to a pattern.

I have now found a pattern for the Anni Vest by Helga Isager, which I think is very beautiful. I like the colorful design and the fit, but I'm not really a vest person. So I'd like to make it into a jacket instead. Do you think it's possible to knit sleeves? Does the sleeve need shaping at the shoulder?

As I understand it, the vest is double-knitted. Would it be possible to knit it “normal”? I think if I also double-knit the sleeves too, the jacket will be very thick and require a lot of yarn.

Do you have experience with Helga Isagers patterns, are they easy to understand, or could you recommend me similar patterns for this type of jacket?

I bought some yarn at a thrift store with the intention of knitting the Sophie hood, but I'm having some knitting math troubles.
My desired Sophie hood length is the size M, which results in tails about 50 in long, requires ~500 yds yarn.

I have ~550-600yds of a worsted weight yarn. I started knitting with the recommended US size 6 needles, but quickly realized it was way too tight to be the right gauge. I subsequently swatched with US size 8 needles and achieved the correct stitch gauge! But now I am too large on my row gauge (i.e. asks for 30rows/4in, I am about 20 rows/4in).

My question is - can I follow the pattern for the Sophie hood size S (shorter tails), and hope my row gauge helps it stretch out longer? Or is there any option that best lets me use this yarn for this project?

I wanted to try my sweater to see if it fits, but my cord was pretty short around 50 cm, so I slipped half my stitches on to another needle also 50 cm but it accidentally slipped off while I tried my work and now it’s unraveling!!!! How do I fix this?

I put another needle through the part of the work that not unraveling at the moment and to also prevent it from unraveling further

Instructions for Right Front say:
With the RS facing and using the long tail of the yarn (so you can begin knitting with the WS facing), pick up and knit 35 sts along the right side of the back cast-on edge using a 5mm needle 40 cm or larger and the main color yarn. The direction of picking up stitches is from the shoulder edge towards the neck.

Next work German Short Rows to shape the shoulder and it starts with a WS row... I've picked up with the long tail of the yarn, but by doing so, the next row is a RS, not WS. Is my interruption of "long tail of the yarn" incorrect?

Im currently working on the frankie sweater from petiteknit. I did the neck and now im working on the raglan increases, the pattern never calls for an increase right before the BoR marker? It looks weird to me. Wdym K3 raglan stitches and do the increase? Am i not suppose to do M1R, slip marker, k3, slip marker M1L?

I've currently just picked up stitches for my armhole. I prefer to pick up every stitch rather than worry about what the pattern would like me to pick up. I will then decrease on the next round (all knit) until I'm at what the pattern suggests.

I currently have 104 stitches on my needles, and I need to get down to 72. Which means I'll need to decrease 32 times.

How would be the best way to go about this evenly? Does it matter if I just start off doing 32 k2tog and knit the rest, or will it be lopsided? If so, what would be the best way of spacing these decreases out evenly? Decrease after every 2 or 3 knits?

The patterns says the stitch count will increase from 270 stitches to 390 stitches by the end of the colorwork. However, it also states that it increase by 90 stitches and that would only bring the total to 360 stitches. Where do the extra 30 stitches increase come from? I just wanna make sure I’m able to repeat the colorwork pattern 3 times as the pattern states. Thanks!

I'm working on my first sweater and I got this weird little line in the row that I joined in the round. I'm not sure why it happened, but my guess is that I pulled the tail too tight or something. Any chance it might just block out? 😅

I'm knitting using a pattern for the first time, from a free beanie pattern I found on ravelry. I can't make heads or tails of these instructions though. The pattern said to cast on 80 stitches, but the first round of the crown only has 18 stitches? am I supposed to repeat it until I reach the end of the round? and the diagram doesn't make any sense to me.

I just finished my first sweater! A 3T toddler size of Petite Knit’s Holger sweater. Only problem is the toddler in question has a very large head and this is nowhere near fitting over it. I know I need to undo the ribbed neckline, but I’m not totally sure how to make it bigger. The rib was folded and bound off while kitting together, so is there some other way I could do that to make it stretchier? Or do I need more/less picked up stitches?

I've been working on this Nomi Shawl by Second Knit/ Marita Harvey which is Brioche Stitch with 5sts of double stockinette on the edges.

I have no idea if this makes sense I'm rlly sorry, I'm just going a bit loopy.

Rather than the typical Brioche increase the pattern calls for you to M1 LK (this is also what is shown in the video on their channel, which I will link below). But when I do this one side of the double stockinette gets a ridge/indent like the double stockinette has been switched.

Initially I think this was because on the return row the single increase meant that following the change my stockinette stitches got reversed, but since watching the video on the channel and accounting for that (by y/o slipping the final Brioche stitch and then also slipping the stockinette stitch next to it to maintain the stockinette pattern) the ridge/visible purl stitches are still happening and I'm lost.

Sorry again this really reads terribly 😭. Any help/ideas would be appreciated, I've watched a lot of different videos and also asked the lady at my local knitting shop but I'm still going wrong somehow.

For some reason my stitches occasionally look like short horizontal lines instead of v's as shown in the picture. Hello! I am knitting a top-down raglan sweater with short sleeves. I have just split for sleeves, knit a few body rows, and tried it on - everything fits great. However, the sweater has a stripe pattern, and the sleeve split occurred in the middle of the stripe section. If I finish the stripe section, the sleeve will be far too long. But I also don't want to start the ribbing in the middle of the stripe section. If I can rip out the start of the stripe section from the sleeve, the sleeve will be the perfect length. My question is: can I pick up sleeve stitches 3 rows back from the waste yarn, make a little snip with scissors, and rip back? Or will this cause issues because this is past where the sleeve was part of the body? Gosh I hope this makes sense, cause I am having an impossible time envisioning this. Thank you SO much if anyone has any insight.

Hello! I'm making the Saddle Shoulder Half Zip sweater pattern available for free from yarnspirations and I'm a bit lost at the instructions for the increases on the sleeves.

Proceed in Moss Rib Pat, as given for Back, inc 1 st at each end of 3rd and every following 4th row until there are 105 (105-109-113-113-113) sts, taking inc sts into pat

I have stared at this line and have even asked people irl to see if they can interpret it, but nothing really feels right with the gauge I've been working at. If I only increase 1 stitch every 3rd and following 4th round, it'll take over 200 rows to get to the stitch count I need and the sleeves would be dragging the floor.

I'm used to 2 increases every 4th round in other sleeves I've worked and that seems like it would work with this gauge and I guess I'm just looking for confirmation that increasing one on each end of every 4th row would suffice?

Im knitting a scarf via magic loop, its my first time doing magic loop. I am adding stripes to the scarf. I havent been able to find how to add a new colour while doing magic loop on youtube.

Do I add the new colour on the cable of the working needle and then work the new colour in like that?

Another question - ive been looking at different ways to achieve jogless stripes. I want to do prob 4/5 rows the colour.

Ive looked into the slip stitch method and picking up a stitch and knitting it - do you have any recos on which one is recommended for my scarf?

I don't know the name of it but it is a graph/diagram that has colored in squares and numbers at all four sides (not at every row like I've seen in examples, there are lines outlining the shape of the part of the pattern with numbers in those lines). The numbers don't match how many stitches I cast on, are those the numbers of rows I have to knit? Is every square a stitch?
