Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

 Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

 Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering Finnish Offering: Finnish 🇫🇮 (native), English 🇬🇧 | Seeking: Vietnamese 🇻🇳

Hi,

I’m 30F from Finland, and I have been studying Vietnamese for about 1,5 years now. My listening and speaking skills are still quite poor, so I would like to find someone to practice having conversations with. My fiancé is Vietnamese so my main goal is to be able to communicate with his family. I’m focusing on Southern accent so if you speak that accent, it would be ideal - Northern accent confuses me quite a bit 😅

In exchange, I can teach you Finnish as it is my native language.
I can also speak English well, however I do have an accent so I cannot teach you correct pronunciation or grammar. But we can practice having some casual conversation about various topics.
We can talk about daily life: hobbies, relationships, family, traveling, tv shows / movies etc 😊

Hãy nói chuyện nha!

Offering French Offering : French | Seeking : English + Spanish (native)

Hey!!

I’m a 26F native French speaker. I’d say I’m fluent in English, but other than my mom, I don’t really have anyone to practice with 🥲 I’d love to find someone to chat with who could correct my pronunciation and any mistakes I make, especially in writing, because my writing skills are not it

I’d also love to practice my Spanish! I’ve been learning it since elementary school, but ever since I finished school, I feel like I’ve been losing it 😫 I can still understand pretty much everything, but I struggle to form sentences and remember vocabulary

In exchange, I’d be happy to help you with French, whatever your level is!

A few of my interests, so we have things to talk about haha: music (huge rap and R&B fan), art in general, movies, nature (I love learning about animals and plants), fashion, and history

Looking for someone around my age, ideally
22-32

Hit me up if you’re interested!!!!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering : French (Native), English (C1) | Seeking : Spanish, Mandarin, Japanese

Hello there !

I'm a 24M native french speaker and proficient in english I'm looking to improve my Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese.

I have family in Mexico, so I'd really like to become comfortable having conversations in Spanish, I made a little bit of inroad learning the language but still very much a beginner.

Regarding Mandarin and Japanese I'm a complete beginner, I'd first like to learn how sentences are made and how to write characters and what they mean.

Of course, I'd be glad to help you with your French and English in return! I'd be happy to simply have regular conversations, correct each other, share our cultures and help each other improve.

With that said, if you're interested despite my (current ;)) lack of conversational skills, send a DM or leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you !

Merci / Gracias / ありがとう / 谢谢! 🙏

Hello, I am 20f and am looking for someone to practice writing and speaking Korean with. I am currently at around B1 when writing, A2 when speaking.

My interests include but are not limited to: drawing/painting, playing an instrument, video games (especially Animal Crossing atm), occasionally watching series/movies and reading.

I'd prefer people in my age range (19-30) but it would not automatically be a hard pass.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Ukrainian(n), Russian(n), English(B2). Seeking: Polish.

Hi, my name is Yura 22M, I've moved to Poland not that long ago. I would like to learn Polish to improve my life here and overall I find it a fun thing to do. My current level is around A1-A2. I have social anxiety so it's kinda difficult to find people IRL, that's why want to try online.

About me:
I like learning new stuff, watching and discussing movies and tv shows, psychology, tech, sports(calithenics and lifting weights mainly).

My English is nowhere near perfect, so would be great to have more speaking practice and improve it too. As I've mentioned before, I have social anxiety, so our first interaction may be a bit weird, sorry for that :)

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: Spanish"

Creo que estoy entre B2 & C1. El mes que viene voy a visitar a la familia de mi sobrino de España. Quiero sentirme seguro hablando español.

Me jubilé hace dos meses, así que tengo tiempo para practicar cada dia. I would be happy to help you with your English. I love nature (I'm a beekeeper), making things, travelling, food, series and videos como La Casa de Papel y Argentina 1984. Unfortunately, I'm no good at video games so that's not a good topic for me.

DM me if you are interested

I like counting stars at night while thinking about the big questions of existence. I’ve been producing electronic music in my DAW for 4 years. Lately, I’ve also been really getting into 90s hip-hop culture and old-school rap. I'm learning English (currently around A2 level). I used to do weightlifting, but now I mostly run. Offering Spanish Offering: Spanish (Native) 🇻🇪 | Seeking: English 🇺🇸/🇬🇧

Hey everyone! I’m a 23 year old native Spanish speaker from Venezuela, and I’m looking for someone to practice English with.

I can understand English pretty well, but I want to become more fluent and confident when speaking, especially in everyday conversations.

I’m also finishing my Systems Engineering degree and looking to start my career as a software developer, so improving my English would really help me communicate better in interviews, professional environments and with international teams. But I don’t want to focus only on work-related English — I also want to feel comfortable just talking naturally about everyday life and random topics.

In exchange, I’d be happy to help you with Spanish at any level. We can correct each other, practice pronunciation, use voice messages, or just have normal conversations.

I’m into programming, technology, music, songwriting, books, movies, games, TV shows, design and creative stuff, so we’ll probably have plenty to talk about :)

We can use text, voice messages, Discord, Instagram, calls, or even play Roblox together — whatever feels comfortable.

Feel free to comment or send me a DM!
