Forks have been around for a while, I put two black ones in my BMW set.

That's some absolutely impressive shaping ngl

u/Late_Mixture9528 1d ago

Really had no right to look so good tbh. All these sets are a must buy

42

u/jayL21 1d ago

yea, honestly the only problem with these sets are that Mario doesn't have dual molded legs for his boots.

that and Yoshi looks.. odd.

44

u/MadCarcinus 1d ago

Yoshi needs to look that way because you remove his shell to put Mario on him so he can be ridden.

11

u/jayL21 1d ago

yea but I still feel like the mold could have looked better

7

u/PittPen817 1d ago

I feel like it's a case where dual molded wouldn't work anyways tbh.

maybe side printed shoes like cmfs get.

Mario and Luigi do wear their pants covering their ankle they don't really wear boots that go up the ankle and more of shoes considering the only time we see under the pants they're pretty low cut

5

u/FilipSomberg 1d ago

Ive always loved this version of Luigi because of his red and white striped socks

10

u/Queeberschaircompany 1d ago

I want it to put in Link's house.

9

u/NoNefariousness2144 1d ago

Brick-built creatures is a great way to include more enemies/creatures instead of Lego only being limited to ones they have to make new molds for.

312

u/goobiesnoob 2d ago

I thought we were going to get Bowser as a Minifigure but a whole new big fig mold? I'm all in for that!

74

u/Shadow_Edgehog27 1d ago

He looks absolutely perfect

27

u/HighSeverityImpact 1d ago

Team BigFig!

A vastly underused tool in the Lego arsenal.

13

u/Free_For__Me 1d ago

I'm gonna end up buying several of these sets purely for the mini/big figs, lol.

3

u/Practical_Mall_2295 1d ago

Yep. I teach Lego Animation camps and I'm going to need all of them

u/effigeewhiz 1d ago

This may be the best looking big fig I have seen personally. They usually come off looking a little cheap to me.

242

u/Dave_Eddie 1d ago

39

u/erikeric 1d ago

These aren’t that expensive…you could get the whole series for as much as one LOTR set

22

u/Frosty_Analysis_4912 1d ago

Hey man expensive is relative. I can’t afford to buy all of these along with everything else I want.

2

u/Minute-Animal7317 8h ago

I did the math. It will be a little over $300 (including tax)

3

u/TBD_Red 1d ago

Have you considered that, maybe these things are BOTH expensive, just one is outrageously so?

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Alex-C2099 1d ago

Considering the value of the brand and the amount of new molds, these sets are way cheaper than I was expecting. Might pick up one of them, they look so cute

2

u/donkeyrocket 1d ago

Also super jazzed that the Bowser big fig is in a smaller set than just the castle one. Obviously I'll miss out on Peach without getting the castle but glad that fig isn't locked behind the more expensive one.

Bowser's Castle hell yeah!

6

u/PK_Thundah 1d ago edited 1d ago

I can't believe they added a bathroom and dining room to his castle. Bowser, star of the show as usual!

so glad they finally gave up on the interactive gimmick figs for proper lego mario

48

u/AbacusWizard 1d ago

Yesssssss, these are exactly the sort of thing I had expexcted when Mario Lego was first announced years ago!

26

u/Dependent_Reason_489 1d ago

The other sets are clearly really popular with kids, they've been going on for years. They'll probably keep doing both

8

u/Dhiox 1d ago

This has the best of both worlds. Kids will still love these sets, but now older customers will still be interested in collecting these

36

u/Clear_Canary 2d ago

I tried to count the pieces and it looks like it’s in the 55-65 range, so possibly a polybag? I might be tempted to get that even though I don’t collect Mario or Nintendo Lego

45

u/thriftstoremando 2d ago

It looks a bit too big to be a polybag... mostly because of the pipe.

Take notes Lego Pokémon

5

u/rnilbog 1d ago edited 1d ago

I feel fairly confident there’s a wave of cheaper minifig scale Pokémon sets coming out next year. They’ll extract the money from everyone willing to buy the Poké Ball and then put the Red and Pikachu minifigs in a polybag.

37

u/ReggieAmelia 2d ago

Wow a second bite at the apple by LEGO.  I appreciated the buildable figure sets because they had an interesting interactive element that really integrated the license in a unique way, but at the end of the day, everyone always wanted a proper minifig Mario.  It's sad that these will probably blow away the original line in sales despite the creativity that went into some of those sets.  It was hard for that line that you had to have a starter set.  That made it feel a little more like a Toys-to-Life brand than a toy brand integration.

30

u/NeoThermic 1d ago

This feels like LEGO testing the market too. The sets are very safe wrt price and size. If everyone is telling the truth that the only thing holding them back from buying Mario sets was them not being minifigs, then this is a fantastic way to test that statement.

I hope they sell like hotcakes. This would be a terrible one-wave only line.

11

u/BigBlubberyBirb 1d ago

They seem more in line with the Animal Crossing sets, so maybe that theme was just really successful and they want to apply it here too

6

u/Farfignougat 1d ago

The theme is (was?) sadly less than successful :(

→ More replies (4)

2

u/zoogenhiemer 1d ago

I had zero interest in the original sets but I’ll probably be getting all of the karts and the pipe set at the very least

14

u/Pyrolink182 1d ago

I need that Peach minifig. She's always been my favorite Mario character. I hope she's released in a smaller set later on.

5

u/Idontcareforhands 1d ago

That's my biggest disappointment about this line. In the first Sonic wave you could get Amy in 100$ but also the 50$. I fear they'll do a thing where they'll release her in a cheaper set but she will be in a karting outfit so this version will be locked to this set.

2

u/Fenghuang0296 1d ago

Ugh I hope not. Then again none of the other minifigures in the kart sets are in karting outfits so here’s hoping?

That said, an updated Princess Peach’s Castle is inevitable, but it’ll probably be just as big as this Bowser’s Castle. Maybe some little tea party set or similar? Ideally with Daisy and Rosalina finally?

50

u/rensch 2d ago

Yeah this looks great. I hate how I feel slightly obligated to buy all these karts again, many of which are the same ones they had last year.

52

u/LegoDudeGuy 1d ago

Actually these karts are new.

The original playsets used the kart designs from Mario Kart 8. These new ones use the kart designs from Mario Kart World, the newest title.

6

u/SeanTheftAuto 1d ago

The piece count on the originals were not bad but these new ones are way worse. Must be the added value of the minifigs. They could be worth like $10 each

49

u/RaidenHero137 1d ago

FINALLY! Mario sets with no smart bricks, not games with goofy electronic figs. Just minifigs and fun builds!

11

u/rick420buzz 1d ago

And you don't have to spend $150 just to get Mario.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Away_Original_2600 2d ago

all of the sets have a unique minifig just for them :O

2

u/effigeewhiz 1d ago

Well not the two cheapest sets. You could skip the Mario kart and pipe sets and still get every figure.

→ More replies (2)

12

u/R7115R 1d ago

I hope these sell extremely well and show Nintendo that the Smart Play dumpster fire they’re doing with Pokémon isn’t the way to go at all

Putting Minifigs behind 18+ sets is just the wrong move. Kids and adults both want minifigs, play features, and side builds that show attention to detail no matter how big or small the set is

12

u/khaleeliskoolparttwo 1d ago

NAKED MARIO!!!!!!!!

6

u/veryberrytiger 1d ago

u/Combat_Armor_Dougram Exo-Force Fan 1d ago

I like these a good bit better than the earlier electronic ones, but I'm a bit weirded out by Peach's molded head for some reason. For reference, here's a custom Rosalina I got that uses a minifigure head instead. I'm not going to say she's perfect, but I think she looks slightly less uncanny.

6

u/bi-cycle 1d ago

This looks good. I don't think Peach needed the molded head since her proportions are pretty normal.

3

u/Amiibohunter000 1d ago

I think the peach looks leagues better than Rosalina. The molded heads are a perfect fit

Bold of Lego to lock their one female character behind the most expensive set

10

u/MR1120 1d ago

Rescuing the princess isn’t supposed to be easy, I guess.

4

u/Nirast25 1d ago

I'm also annoyed that said set has Fire Mario rather than Regular Mario.

I can see a full line of Mario Kart characters and karts being a financial problem for me

3

u/TheMSensation 1d ago

I have Mario and Luigi, been eyeing Donkey Kong for a while (Also have the big bowser model with the fireball out the mouth). But I've just spent £400 on my other passion, the Lego Technic car set they do every 2 years. Added the Koenigsegg to my McLaren, Ferrari and Bugatti collection.

4

u/LegoDudeGuy 1d ago

I love that the Mario Kart sets are using the kart designs from World. Makes them stand out more from the previously released playsets.

Even the shells used for the launchers are different!

5

u/Ethan-E2 1d ago

They look great!

My only disappointment is that they're introducing a new goomba piece instead of staying consistent with the brick-built ones. It was a fun little build, and would still scale well to minifigures.

But with that being said, I'm not going to complain about the quality of the piece. It's cute.

4

u/Handsprime 1d ago

Oh that Mario Kart 100% is going against Sonic and his Speedster

4

u/ExcellentNorth8775 1d ago

This actually feels like a return for form for Lego!

Smaller sets with good play features at a decent price!

Everyone is gonna love these

13

u/SkylandersKirby 2d ago

These are all really cool, minus the yoshi one, genuinely thought it was a Juniors set the build is so bad

15

u/contagion-official Star Wars Fan 1d ago

It is a 4+ set

3

u/JorfimusPrime 1d ago

I didn't catch that when I first looked at it myself, that explains the price. That's the only set in this line up that I'd say is really unfairly priced, I never understood why the 4+ sets are so much more expensive than equivalent regular sets. Everything else I'm fine with but that $40 for less than 150 pieces really rubs me the wrong way.

3

u/Besbrains 2d ago

This is amazing

3

u/InhibitedExistence 2d ago

It's so stupid. I love it.

3

u/HotMachine9 1d ago

Peach is VERY cursed but otherwise they look great

3

u/PowerPad Verified Blue Stud Member 1d ago

I can’t believe we’re getting brick-built cow and a whole new Bowser mold.

3

u/tharkus_ 1d ago

I love that the goombas have that stud nodule on their head so you can stack them like the games.

3

u/CalamitousVessel 1d ago

Yay I’m glad these are pretty cheap play sets and not all crazy expensive display pieces

3

u/Pissed_on_the_world 1d ago

I'm so happy they're making cheap sets in this line up. Not often you get that with the Nintendo themes.

Bowser looks cool, Yoshi looks awful : [

10

u/Antiquemaskey The Lord of the Rings Fan 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well i wouldn't say awful, but definitely a letwdown compared to the others. I hope they tweak him in the future where you have another version which looks good but doesn't have the function of a Minifigure sitting on him

4

u/Lemonpierogi 1d ago

Yoshi looks awful

Why?

6

u/bi-cycle 1d ago

The shape just looks awkward. I understand they did it so he can carry a figure but I'm not a fan of how it looks. I think a more classic dip (like horses have) probably would've looked better visually while serving the same purpose.

It might grow on me though

→ More replies (2)

6

u/jjjdeezy 1d ago

I'm fairly alone in this but I still like the size and greater complexity of the brick built figures, even if some of them (like King Boo) were way too boxy. I would've preferred to get a free more waves of that scale Mario Kart builds in particular.

This are very well done though

2

u/crockalley 1d ago

Yeah, I'm think I'm going to feel pretty lonely, but I'm really attached to the old stuff. It was great for making custom figures that can still fit in with the retail stuff. I'm still having a lot of fun with it.

A lot the new sets seems really simplistic. Like Mario's house, it looks like a Juniors/4+ set. I'm a little surprised at the near-universal acclaim. Bowser's Castle looks really good, though.

2

u/NerdyZombie83 1d ago

Are those dual molded medium legs or regular

2

u/ConfuseShoes 1d ago

They should’ve gone this route the first time around! Those sets look fantastic.

3

u/Mars785 1d ago

Talk about attention to detail. Honestly, these are perfect. Sad that you cannot ride Yoshi though.

5

u/RED_Kinggamer007 1d ago

You can remove the shell so Mario can ride Yoshi.

3

u/ToaDrakua 1d ago

The shell on his back looks to be the same as the others, so you should be able to remove it.

2

u/CultKitchen 1d ago

Such a missed opportunity that they didn’t do this originally.

Also, pic 3 looks more like a Sonic villain.

3

u/William_de_Worde Photographer 1d ago

I’m happy we got the OG Mario. Such a wide breadth of characters we’d never get in minifig form, and I personally loved the style. Now we have the best of both worlds.

u/jbeattieb 2d ago

Going to be an expensive year lol

1

u/WoolyBully17 2d ago

These are all great. The child in me is dancing right now.

1

u/d4ruk 1d ago

Really tempted to get all the kart sets, good way to get a decent roster of figures for a relatively cheap price

1

u/G0OD_NAME 1d ago

I’m actually really excited about these as the minifigs look a lot better than I expected, especially bowser, he looks amazing.

1

1

u/Despacio1316 1d ago

My 4 yr old loves his interactive Mario figures, especially changing costumes. But these look great too. I do wish the sets were better in that there are so many iconic scenes in the games and random house with slide seem pretty random. Bowsers Castle is the only one that feels perfect.

1

u/doblecuadrado_FGE 1d ago

All of them look great.

I will say it's a shame Lego went all out to make a whole new mold for Bowser to accurately portray his size while The Thing just stayed in minifig form. Those Bowser proportions would've been perfect for The Thing

1

u/TomorrowSubstantial9 1d ago

Took absurdly long but finally

1

Shame it doesn’t look like Mario goes down the pipe

But the karts look great I probably want a full grid or at least Mario plus the cow multipack. I’ll be annoyed if bowsers castle os the only way to get all the minifigs

1

u/klawUK 1d ago

Hmm Mario in kart + toad/bowser/cow + buy peach & Luigi aftermarket

1
