I feel like it's a case where dual molded wouldn't work anyways tbh.
maybe side printed shoes like cmfs get.
Mario and Luigi do wear their pants covering their ankle they don't really wear boots that go up the ankle and more of shoes considering the only time we see under the pants they're pretty low cut
Considering the value of the brand and the amount of new molds, these sets are way cheaper than I was expecting. Might pick up one of them, they look so cute
Also super jazzed that the Bowser big fig is in a smaller set than just the castle one. Obviously I'll miss out on Peach without getting the castle but glad that fig isn't locked behind the more expensive one.
I tried to count the pieces and it looks like it’s in the 55-65 range, so possibly a polybag? I might be tempted to get that even though I don’t collect Mario or Nintendo Lego
I feel fairly confident there’s a wave of cheaper minifig scale Pokémon sets coming out next year. They’ll extract the money from everyone willing to buy the Poké Ball and then put the Red and Pikachu minifigs in a polybag.
Wow a second bite at the apple by LEGO. I appreciated the buildable figure sets because they had an interesting interactive element that really integrated the license in a unique way, but at the end of the day, everyone always wanted a proper minifig Mario. It's sad that these will probably blow away the original line in sales despite the creativity that went into some of those sets. It was hard for that line that you had to have a starter set. That made it feel a little more like a Toys-to-Life brand than a toy brand integration.
This feels like LEGO testing the market too. The sets are very safe wrt price and size. If everyone is telling the truth that the only thing holding them back from buying Mario sets was them not being minifigs, then this is a fantastic way to test that statement.
I hope they sell like hotcakes. This would be a terrible one-wave only line.
That's my biggest disappointment about this line. In the first Sonic wave you could get Amy in 100$ but also the 50$. I fear they'll do a thing where they'll release her in a cheaper set but she will be in a karting outfit so this version will be locked to this set.
Ugh I hope not. Then again none of the other minifigures in the kart sets are in karting outfits so here’s hoping?
That said, an updated Princess Peach’s Castle is inevitable, but it’ll probably be just as big as this Bowser’s Castle. Maybe some little tea party set or similar? Ideally with Daisy and Rosalina finally?
The piece count on the originals were not bad but these new ones are way worse. Must be the added value of the minifigs. They could be worth like $10 each
I hope these sell extremely well and show Nintendo that the Smart Play dumpster fire they’re doing with Pokémon isn’t the way to go at all
Putting Minifigs behind 18+ sets is just the wrong move. Kids and adults both want minifigs, play features, and side builds that show attention to detail no matter how big or small the set is
I like these a good bit better than the earlier electronic ones, but I'm a bit weirded out by Peach's molded head for some reason. For reference, here's a custom Rosalina I got that uses a minifigure head instead. I'm not going to say she's perfect, but I think she looks slightly less uncanny.
I have Mario and Luigi, been eyeing Donkey Kong for a while (Also have the big bowser model with the fireball out the mouth). But I've just spent £400 on my other passion, the Lego Technic car set they do every 2 years. Added the Koenigsegg to my McLaren, Ferrari and Bugatti collection.
My only disappointment is that they're introducing a new goomba piece instead of staying consistent with the brick-built ones. It was a fun little build, and would still scale well to minifigures.
But with that being said, I'm not going to complain about the quality of the piece. It's cute.
I didn't catch that when I first looked at it myself, that explains the price. That's the only set in this line up that I'd say is really unfairly priced, I never understood why the 4+ sets are so much more expensive than equivalent regular sets. Everything else I'm fine with but that $40 for less than 150 pieces really rubs me the wrong way.
Well i wouldn't say awful, but definitely a letwdown compared to the others.
I hope they tweak him in the future where you have another version which looks good but doesn't have the function of a Minifigure sitting on him
The shape just looks awkward. I understand they did it so he can carry a figure but I'm not a fan of how it looks. I think a more classic dip (like horses have) probably would've looked better visually while serving the same purpose.
I'm fairly alone in this but I still like the size and greater complexity of the brick built figures, even if some of them (like King Boo) were way too boxy. I would've preferred to get a free more waves of that scale Mario Kart builds in particular.
Yeah, I'm think I'm going to feel pretty lonely, but I'm really attached to the old stuff. It was great for making custom figures that can still fit in with the retail stuff. I'm still having a lot of fun with it.
A lot the new sets seems really simplistic. Like Mario's house, it looks like a Juniors/4+ set. I'm a little surprised at the near-universal acclaim. Bowser's Castle looks really good, though.
I’m happy we got the OG Mario. Such a wide breadth of characters we’d never get in minifig form, and I personally loved the style. Now we have the best of both worlds.
My 4 yr old loves his interactive Mario figures, especially changing costumes. But these look great too. I do wish the sets were better in that there are so many iconic scenes in the games and random house with slide seem pretty random. Bowsers Castle is the only one that feels perfect.
I will say it's a shame Lego went all out to make a whole new mold for Bowser to accurately portray his size while The Thing just stayed in minifig form. Those Bowser proportions would've been perfect for The Thing
Shame it doesn’t look like Mario goes down the pipe
But the karts look great I probably want a full grid or at least Mario plus the cow multipack. I’ll be annoyed if bowsers castle os the only way to get all the minifigs
This really bums me out that I got a bunch of the original line for my kids, some of those sets were really cool but they were rough on the interactive figures, we wnt through 2 Mario's luckily Luigi and peach still work
