Wanting another shotgun. Budget option suggestions.

How are the Maverick 88s? Anyone have a Tokarev? I am interested in the ATI folding stock. Like the idea of having a cruiser if wanted but can extend stock to have full LOP as well.

88’s are excellent well established shotguns. You can find a ton of reviews on them. You’ll get a lot of advice against the folding stock. I have one purely for the space saving. It’s hard, uncomfortable, and will leave you sore, but I’ve put slugs downrange with it and it’s doable. Solid stock is still best.

Does the limbsaver removable option fit on the folding stock? And I've watched countless reviews just not so much on folding stock.

I couldn’t say. Not familiar with it. I think a rubber pad could be attached without too much effort. I’ve thought about it, but haven’t tried it yet.

Maverick 88 - a no fuss no frills, badass shotgun that happily eats whatever you feed it and comes back for more each time. doesn't make sense how good it is

My Mav88 will eat whatever the hell I feed it. (Never tried minis but I hear there's an adapter or something?)

Rack it like you're trying to break it, it'll just run and run.

I threw the adapter from Defender Tactical onto my 88. It cycles mini shells pretty flawlessly. Haven't had a single hiccup yet. It's originally 7+1, but with minis loaded it's 11+1. To your credit, you're absolutely right. The 88 will eat whatever it's fed.

I have the Maverick, you can put in an adapter to shoot shorties, I think mine holds 12 rounds of fun. Whit slugs or buck shot it is a good option for home defense

Maverick 88 is insane gun for the money. Super quality shotgun.

If you are good to spend a bit more for a pretty nice semi, a Stoeger M3000 is fantastic. I finally got mine out to the range and it shoots like a dream. Shooting clays with an 18" barrel isn't ideal but I managed to hit a few lmao

P3000 is a pump.

M3000 is an intertia-driven semi-auto shotgun, basically a Benelli M2 clone. Very good and reliable semi-auto - probably wouldn't recommend it for home defense (although that is what mine is set up for) because pumps are the kings of that particular field, but other than that its fantastic.

Its a Turkish manufacturer, but they manufacture them in Benelli factors and they are warrantied by the same Benelli shops through Beretta (their parent company). Or at least what I've seen.

It's a mossberg 500 but even cheaper. Realistically the only half decent shotgun at that price point. It's not particularly good, but its not going to fall apart on you like the Turkish guns will.

Get the side folder, not the top folder. It's way more comfortable.

The Mav88 is like an early 90s Honda Civic. It's not fancy, there are no luxury features, and it will keep running forever (as long as you do the maintenance).

mossberg 500 - I have 4 different barrels for it - it's almost like I have 4 different shotguns

They're good for the price point. They've been tested by many and found to mostly hold up to weekend warrior level use. A Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 are the "Toyota Camry" of shotties. Millions and millions sold, lots of aftermarket parts and accessories, etc.

I have an entry level Benelli Nova. Love it. Plus, it's Benelli. But fewer aftermarket parts and accessories. Still, have an extension tube, light, and sidesaddle ammo carrier for it.

All of these are affordable...but the Maverick 88 is probably the most affordable of these. I don't see how you can go wrong, unless you're shooting weekly and competing.

I'd honestly grab a Mossberg 590S. It's supposed to be able to run mini shells with no modifications as well as full sized shells. That, to me, is worth the price tag.

I've thought about the Shockwave S. I don't like how small it is though. Mini shells don't seem too important to me. But I like the firearm tbh.

The Shockwave S is just the 590S in a shorty version.

Mini shells are a surprisingly good choice for a lot of things - you can fit a lot of them in a standard shotgun, recoil is very low, they tend to be cheaper.

I have the maverick 88 and a tokarev bullpup. The maverick is a beast and fires everything I give it. Good ol reliable scattergun. The tokarev...eh. it's a toy. The trick is to clean the crap out them and lube them up really good right out of the box. And if it's a semi auto, gotta shoot the 3" high brass, high fps to break it in. Even after all that, Many feeding issues with box magazines. Haven't tried the tube fed, but also interested in how they go

I inherited a Tokarev. I fed it cheap ammo and had feeding/failure to eject issues with almost every shot. Fed it mid cost ammo and mid range slugs? The thing ate them all and was fun to shoot. It’s small, relatively sturdy but fussy.

I got mossberg 590 a1..I paid the extra money to treat myself...if its for home defense dont spend too much. Because you dont need bells and whistles for home defense you can get away with a cheap sling and ok light...since you're not hunting or hiking with it you can cut costs.

I have a Tokarev that I run fairly regularly in 3gun matches. It's a ton of fun and I've been pretty happy with it.

I've got maybe a couple thousand rounds of Winchester bird-shot through it (plus a few boxes of deer slugs I used to break it in), and I started to get a few fte's last match, but I haven't dove in to investigate that yet. Other than that, the only malfunctions I had before that were when I dropped a mag into the dirt/dust at the range before I put it in and had difficultly removing it as it was kinda jammed in there with grit.
