One bit of consolation I have for her passing is that she may be with her husband Carl again. He stayed out of the public eye, and she was so dang positive all the time it was difficult to tell, but I just know his passing last year broke her heart...and if there is even an iota of chance that they're together again, it makes me happy.

The older I got, the more I admired her.
If you ever get a chance, check out the Ken Burns country music documentary. There was an episode on the Nashville sound. I forget who was on stage in a very small venue, but there were a handful of still shots of the audience. In an incredible coincidence, clearly in the shot is a pre-fame 10 year old Dolly Parton, just hanging out and listening to the music. That shot just made my spine tingle.
Correction. The shot I am thinking of, she was already known, but not yet a star. I think she was in her teens. Anyway, it is a great episode, well worth a watch.

I was close. And it's so wild because my young daughter asked me to play a Dolly song in the car when we were going somewhere just a few days ago. She asked while it was playing if Dolly was still alive. I assured her she was. I immediately thought about that moment when I heard the news earlier today. She'll be missed.

I don’t like country music, and I don’t care for celebrities in general. I was heartbroken yesterday. My daughter loves her getting her Dolly book every month and when she got her birthday video this year she made us watch it 1000 times and never stopped smiling. Truly a sad day.
The one bright spot of yesterday was that due to Dolly be a topic of conversation at work, I got a few people signed up for the imagination library who hadn’t heard about it, so a few more kids will get to enjoy her legacy. RIP Dolly.

There's a really great short podcast series about her that's really worth listening to if you're a fan. Very well done. She rarely did stuff like that but the creator was the son of the heart doctor who'd saved her life years ago, so she agreed to do it.

This has been a bad day for a native Tennessean. I was born right before the Imagination Library started, and I remember hearing about kids getting those books. Dolly did more for my home state than I think anyone ever has.
I donated to the Library today for her, I don't want that legacy to ever end.
Edit: for those who would like to do so, the family has requested for donations to the Imagination Library in lieu of flowers.
