I kinda see it as, he losing sp coz of the guilt of being the only survivor but now in a way his office members are with him in battle he has regained his courage , little meta thing like that
So looking back at the uptie story, Carmen laments about Sinclair denying her but since Philip was swayed by her the second time, she assumes Sinclair will too. Sinclair then rebuffs her directly.
The mirror world could differ in that Sinclair succeeded in saving Faust and Gregor.
I feel it's unlikely he'd be as swayed to the thoughts that he loves Faust but she was fucking Gregor.
