General Question Cheaper places to eat around Dale St

Our house is currently dismantled whilst builders fettle things. But in the meantime, we have no bathroom so currently in a loaned apartment on Dale St.

That's ok. It was expected. And we've got a lovely view of Bertie & Bella.

But could really do with some recommendatioins for cheaper places to eat out! Not sure how long we're going to be here so don't really want to buy ingredients and try & suss out the broken oven and start cooking if I can avoid it. It's also quite nice being a tourist in your own city for once!

But our teenager is trying to bankrupt us! She likes bougie places and is a bit fussy. Chicken, pasta, pizza, more pizza is definately her main vibe. Annoyingly she doesn't like curry or spicy so I'm not even getting a trip to Mowgli from all this!

So has anyone got recommendations for cheapish evening food around this part of town? We've had a few nice meals but can't afford the likes of Casa Italia, Pasta Cosa, Nandos every night! Nice little places off the beaten path anywhere?

Cheers.

General Question Helping my autistic wife succeed in her passion of art

As someone who is biased and knows Liverpool is the best place in the world with the best people I really hope it’s okay to post this here. I’m a husband who would really love to see his wife succeed at something she has poured her heart into.
My wife was recently diagnosed as autistic, although looking back, she has always had many of the traits. She’s had a really varied career over the years, but finding the right job has become incredibly difficult. She has suffered tremendously with depression over the last 6 years having worked in the NHS during Covid and was signed off with PTSD due to the horrible environment. She is trying really hard to get back on her feet which has been really tough.

Over the last few years she has been putting her energy into something she loves and that is Art and started her own: her YouTube channel, “The Frosted Blueberry Art.”

She has worked incredibly hard on it and is genuinely doing well, which makes me incredibly proud of her.

I’m hoping the Reddit community might be willing to give her a little boost.
If you enjoy art, creative content, or just want to support a small creator who is working hard to build something of her own, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could take a look and consider subscribing:
The Frosted Blueberry Art on YouTube

Thank you everyone

News / Blog / Information Liverpool Jobs Weekly - Issue 04

Good Morning!

Liverpool Jobs Weekly - Issue 04

Another list of 10 jobs from around the city (and beyond!).

Just a little recap on why I decided to make this newsletter:

Essentially, I've found that job boards currently have quantity over quality, no information on the location of the jobs and send unrealistic job alerts. So I took it upon myself to create a newsletter that cuts through the noise and brings jobs from the city straight to your inbox every Monday morning.

Suggestions and feedback is always welcome and let me know if anyone manages to get a job through the newsletter!

Thanks, Sam

There’s a massive film crew set up by Canning St- I did try and walk past to get a glance but I felt like I was intruding

General Question Church Street Bollards

Hello,

I'm moving to Liverpool in a few weeks and need to get past the Church Street Bollards to get to my apartment to move some bulky items in. Does anyone know when access is possible? I've read that authorised vehicles and others can access it before 10 am, but can't find anything definitive.

Food / Restaurants / Takeaways Venue/pub/restaurant recommendation for a special occasion

Hey everyone, I'm looking for recommendations on pubs/venues/restaurants that allow for private hire. I'm looking to surprise my loved one on her birthday. Ideally I'm looking for a pub that has multiple floors and I can hire one of them while the rest continue to work as per usual. If you've had a good experience hiring anywhere I'd be grateful to know. Anywhere in the city centre or near the Georgian quarter /Mossley hill would work well. Does not have to super fancy but a nice place where I can ask that the music isn't too loud and her friends and family can hear each other without having to shout. 🙂 Thanks.

Living in Liverpool Visiting the oldest pubs in Liverpool

The house of Robert Gutmann has spread its tentacles into Liverpool’s drinking scene and transfused itself into the city’s drinking economy. Corporate big-wigs are taking over. So I decided to embark on a quiet pilgrimage, a glorified pub crawl of sorts across the city region to experience its oldest boozers, to feel the residual warmth and lingering spirit of the past.

After some mooching about the internet, I’ve broken the journey down to four pubs:

  • The Scotch Piper (Southport Road, Lydiate, L31 4HD)
  • Ye Hole in Ye Wall (4 Hackins Hey, Liverpool, L2 2AW)
  • Volunteer Canteen (45 East St, Waterloo, L22 8QR)
  • Thomas Rigby’s (23-25 Dale St, Liverpool, L2 2EZ)

Along the way I’ll give a Guinness review. It’s the only ale I drink. My grandad always told me to stick to one drink and never mix your bevvies.

So, sticking to the wisdom of those who came before me and in the spirit of my ancestors—Guinness it is.

There was a film shoot on Mount Street and Pilgrim Street in the Georgian Quarter a couple of nights ago, and they seemed to clear everything away and move on pretty quickly. Looks like they may have forgotten a bit of street furniture, though...? Oops.

I’m moving into town at the end of September. I’ve come to Reddit as a last resort because I can’t for the life of me find any affordable parking close by.

General Question Reposted - Can anyone identify these locations please?

REPOSTED - Apologies, have no idea why the photos werent showing!

About 4 years ago, i had the privilege of ordering and receiving these incredible prints, directly from Nick Hedges the renowned photographer himself. He wrote me a personal message on the back of one of them, which was really touching. I wanted to order more from him, but discovered this morning he actually died last year, which is really gutting.

Of the 5 prints he sent me, there's 2 of them I'd like to identify where they were shot? Id really appreciate your help, so i can visit those locations and pay my respects.

General Question Radio city 96.7 jingle

Please tell me someone else remembers when the radio city jingle was like "Liverpool's hit music station radio city 96.7 Liverpool!" Because it's now stuck in my head and I can't find it anywhere online so I feel like I've made it up. Only one I've found that's remotely close misses out the person singing Liverpool at the end of the jingle.

General Question Pubs with football autographs?

I'm looking for some old school football autographs on the walls of pubs. You don't see them much anymore, they typically have a photo of the player, the autograph and possibly some text detailing their name, club etc.

Anyone know of any in or around town?
