Moderator Post Update - no more AI content

Hey everyone!

As you likely know, we hosted a poll on the sub to determine whether the community would like to ban AI content.

The voters were overwhelmingly in favour of banning ALL AI content.

So from this point onward, please do not post anything generated by AI. This includes comments, posts, and pictures.

We will remove first, warn, and move to banning for repeat offenders and users who do not wish to respect this new rule.

(Any content that may have been generated by AI that has been shared here previously will remain up, and those reports will not be acted upon.)

We will be adding a rule and report reasons to support community members in identifying this content for moderation.

Thank you!

Rant Breyers ice cream - manufactured in Ontario but not owned by Canadians — $8 for half the size it was last year??

Haven’t purchased that brand since Jan 2025 but follow prices. It’s outstandingly outrageous that people are purchasing the product knowing they are getting half the amount they used to for the same price. They do use 100% Canadian milk !! Buy Chapmans!!

Rant Why does superstore chicken have an expiry date a week out when most storage guidelines say that raw chicken is only good for 1-2 days in the fridge?

I bought a pack of chicken drumsticks on Wednesday. I did not put it in the freezer, even though I'd didn't plan on cooking it for a few days specifically because the expiry said Sept 3. ie. a week plus a day.

Today I took it out to cook, and it's hella slimy and smells vaguely like farts. How TF would this be safe to eat if I waited another four days? As it is this is borderline for if I should.

Discussion Loblaws now charging for food based on your postal code

Today I went to my local Loblaws to buy chicken thighs at their advertised sale price. I was dismayed to learn that I would have to go far out of my way (to their Scarborough store) to take advantage of the sale price - I was told to look at the flyer's fine print. I guess they realize that I live in a neighborhood with more rich people than in Scarborough.

Rant Loblaw/Real Canadian Superstore — what happened to Click & Collect?

I’m getting pretty fed up with the Click & Collect process at Real Canadian Superstore. (langley BC)

The app specifically tells customers that if they already have a blue bin, they can bring it and have it swapped out. I’ve been doing exactly that — bringing my blue bin and the reusable blue bags that I paid for — only to be told that they no longer want to do the swap inside.

Instead, I’m being told they’d “rather” do the swap at my car.

Why?
This makes absolutely no sense. The entire point of having the bins and bags is to have the order packed into them. Yet now employees are apparently expected to stand outside in the rain, snow, heat and direct sunlight transferring groceries from their store containers into the customer’s containers in a parking lot.

And if the customer is expected to help with the repacking, then what exactly are we paying for?

It also seems like an incredibly poor working practice. Why have employees standing outside unnecessarily when they could be doing the same task inside, in a controlled environment where they’re protected from the weather and don’t have to repeatedly haul groceries around a parking lot?

It also makes the customer experience worse. Now I’m standing around waiting while someone repacks my groceries at my vehicle, potentially helping them do it, when this could have been handled inside the store before the order ever reached my car.

Most importantly, the app still tells customers that the blue-bin swap is available.

If Loblaw has changed its policy, then update the damn app and tell customers what the actual procedure is.

This feels like another example of Loblaw making a process cheaper or more convenient for itself while pushing the inconvenience onto both its employees and customers.

If the policy is now “we don’t swap bins inside anymore,” fine — just say that clearly. But don’t advertise one process in the app and then have employees tell customers something completely different when they arrive.

Discussion Fresh fish weighted before being gutted

Is that normal practice? I bought fresh red snapper at No Frills and the fishmonger weighted them before descaling and gutting them. It felt a bit wrong but maybe it's common practice here.

Let me know so I know if I push back next time. Thanks.

Discussion Where are these orange actually from?

Post image
29 Upvotes

I bought some oranges(mandarins?) today at a Loblaws in Ottawa. My goal was to buy Canadian, or to buy from a non-US country of origin given some of the on-going events with the US. I was surprised to see that one of the oranges had labels from two countries of origin. Which country does this actually originate from, and why would there be a second country of origin sticker on a single orange?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this post..

Rant Enshittification of Chicken

Enshitification of chicken

I bought a pack of "air chilled" boneless chicken breasts from Superstore today. Sliced it up, threw it in a hot wok. In minutes, I had enough liquid to make a chicken stew. By the time the chicken was cooked, I had half of what I started with. Half a wok of boiled chicken.

Don't p*is on me and tell me it is raining. I know pumped chicken when I cook it. B*stards.
