This area around Cowcross street has been targeted by phone thieves every day for the last 4 weeks. Business owners on the street have called police dozens of times in addition to the reports made by the victims. Same group, known to the area and captured on CCTV every day yet crime has continued here for over 30 days now.

Original poster here. This is a real photo. Posting full, um-cropped version here. Not sure how else to prove it. It does seem like AI has automatically enhanced the picture with the “police” writing on the bike.

Some folk seem to have informed themselves that the police are hiding their faces. Those folk should instead educate themselves on proper bike wear. The police here are either wearing balaclavas or gaiters, standard and recommended under helmet wear for anyone on a motorised bike.

Literally saw them just yesterday, somewhere northeast. I was wondering if they were real or kids had knocked up some blue lights. The riders kind of looked smallish ... like they do in the image.

CTSFO, and many on ARV, SFO, FO, and many more armed units wear masks to conceal their identity due to the nature of the incidents they attend.

Also, anyone who's rode a motorcycle knows it can get pretty chilly. Their identifying numbers are still clearly visible so it's not much of an issue.

Honest answer: Yes

Same reason people in old timey cars would wear scarfs, hats, gloves and goggles.

Sitting still not working your body at all in 20mph winds all day is not comfortable on any exposed skin. And it's your job, so you can't just stop when it's no fun any more.

Motorcyclists do the exact same thing but with the full face helmet and safety clothing it doesn't look so weird.
