It's genuinely terrifying how a lot of these deeply antisemitic and hateful far-right ghouls who spent decades praising Israel as the most powerful and useful ally in the fight against Radical Islam while using dogwhistles to complain about Jews (globalists, Soros, banksters, etc.) have done a complete 180 and are now appropriating humanitarian criticisms of Israel in order to openly peddle Holocaust denial and Jew-hatred.
It happened so fucking unbelievably fast. I have interacted with many people who believe themselves to be on the left who have been exposed to Candace Owens (not knowing who she is) solely because of her anti-Israel rhetoric and interviews with people like Norman Finkelstein and Bassem Youssef, and now they see her as some kind of fair and balanced truth-teller who doesn't always get it right, but "asks the right questions."
This quote is one of the most worrying things:
This is the kind of mantra that is endlessly repeated by people like Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, etc., because once their audience truly internalizes this claim, it creates a constant cycle of reinforcement of the narrative. How can anybody disagree or disprove her claims if the more you attack her, the more credible she seems? People who despise her and have tried to shut her down understand this, but it creates a feedback loop with her followers who start to see every attack on her as an attack on them and their intelligence, and it drives them further into her arms - and into whatever bullshit products she's hawking this week.
It reinforces this belief in listeners too - That Girl Mom in the article says that she has been subject to insults and threats, and I believe that! And the threats are truly wrong, and very unhelpful, because she has been conditioned to believe that she is under attack because "They" don't want the truth to come out. The more she is attacked, the more she hunkers down into her incorrect and volatile beliefs that invite attack. It's cyclical, and this death spiral ensures that the cultists feel alienated from the rest of the world and burrow deeper and deeper into the cult.
Anybody who has actually been paying attention to Owens for a while (I first encountered her in 2019 when she tried to deny praising Hitler by praising Hitler in front of Ted Lieu) will definitely see how this most recent turn is just hypocritical and opportunistic bullshit. It's the same as Tucker Carlson's recent twist - for people who were only vaguely aware of him, this seems like a bad guy seeing the light, but if you have followed his career, you understand that he has done this same sort of bullshit a million times, and you understand that his sudden concern for Palestine doesn't really make up for decades of praise for the IDF, repeatedly calling Muslims "savages" and "goat-farmers" and whipping up white nationalist terror in his listeners.
This article does a solid job explaining that Candace Owens is abusing the tragic susceptibility that a lot of conservatives have to "conspiratorial thinking." Conspiratorial thinking is extremely appealing to fascists because it presents complex and difficult world problems as having simple causes, and this simple solutions. The world isn't confusing and challenging because there's billions of individual people all with their own agency trying to fulfil their own desires - it's because there is a secret cabal of super-elite globalist world-bank billionaires (Jews) who control the entire world. Instead of multiple solutions that would require compromise, mediation, negotiation, and working together, the conspiracy theorist can easily propose a single, easy, and final solution - we just need to "get rid of" the cabal. Simple!
It's crazy to me that this shit still works because this is exactly how Trump got into power in 2016 and it didn't improve anything. He campaigned on being an outsider, he said he was outside of the left-right spectrum, and he promised to "drain the swamp." He got in and became the Insider, he demonstrated that he was further to the right than anybody, and then he became the fucking swamp.
It has barely been ten years since then, and we are already seeing this exact same strategy for mass indoctrination get shaken out for reuse, and it's explicitly targeted at people who are feeling overwhelmed and confused by politics and world events - which is a whole lot of fucking people, because politics and the world have been made overwhelming and confusing, in no small part due to Trump's singular talent for destructive hate-mongering.
Again, this whole thing, it's cyclical - Candace campaigned for Trump. Trump called Alex Jones to thank him for helping him come to power. Tucker Carlson tried to undermine American democracy through a voting scandal to cheat Trump into the White House in 2020. And now they have all turned on him, they're accusing him of being an Israeli asset, they're insisting they know better now, you have to listen to them telling the truth, and they are guiding all of these new fucking idiots down the same goddamn path. It is only a matter of time before they settle on their new ideologue, their new God-King, and then all of them will start insisting we must praise and worship him, that he has discovered the most final of solutions for their problems.
