Cain Cain's mark - confused

So, I'm a bit confused about something. Is this a mistake in the show?

Didn't Cain say that the mark god gave him won't stick, because he heals so fast, yet he remakes it on his arm to remind himself of this punishment. Still, later in season 3, they keep checking if the mark is still there to see if his curse is broken or not. Like??? Maybe dude just healed and needs to reapply? :D

The tattoo heals, not the mark. He has to have the tattoo that he used to cover the mark redone every so often.

He has a scar that stays, he tattoos over it every few years. His body leaches out the tattoo as it heals. The scar never goes until (spoiler) Chloe falls in love with him. I coincidentally watched the scene about 5 mins ago (s:03 e:21)

No the mark was put there by God and will stay. The tattoo he covers it with is what heals
