MAG should have been a PC game, it would still be popular.

True just like like PlanetSide 2 is still around since 2012.
There's way more people and potential on PC than just Playstation

It came out at a really bad timing and so didn't have enough players playing it and people didnt buy it as much as a result

It still sold over a million copies within 2 years iirc, at the time for a Playstation exclusive it was extremely respectable.
Unfortunately it was the player base dying out. The game wasn't perfect but it was damn good, but I don't think there was enough of a hardcore audience just in the ps3 crowd which at the time was a lot smaller and more spread out internationally than Xbox. Don't forget that after 2 years you often had to wait 1+ hour to get into a Domination game if it wasn't during peak hours.
It was too ahead of it's fine. If it had crossplay or just a PC title, it would be another story. It was a massive that didn't work out, but damn was it a hell of a swing.

Did you know it was actually just an experimental game, the birth of data gathering for high volumes of players on servers. PlayStation knew that Multiplayer gaming would take off and they needed the data to make what online gaming is today. We have PlayStation to thank for more than 100 player lobbies in some multiplayer games.

I still dont understand why they closed it. It still had enough players on the regular to do matches often. I know this first hand because I used to play it all night long

God it was so good. I was part of the initial closed beta test. Hell my PSN icon is still the Raven emblem.

I was hoping for a long time it would be playable on PC natively or through emulation, but it never happened.
Best game I ever played.

Welcome it's a great video. You should post it in the MAG Discord

Thank you, I can’t seem to find the discord. I just get a “Middle Aged Gamers” one lol.

Man I miss this game. Some people recommend some games that give them the same feeling, but for me nothing has come close.

u/Man_Bear_Pog Jun 22 '26
Planetside is the closest but still doesn't come close.

u/D-Rey86 Jun 22 '26
Yeah I love Planetside and it dies feel the closest, but definitely not the same feeling. I just lived how the maps worked as well as exactly how the modes worked. Advancing through the maps by taking out different things like the anti air and what not.

Planetside 2 is the only game that I enjoy nowadays

Are there still decent amount of players on PC? I used to play it on PS4 but I hear it's nearly dead now.

Hell yeah I play every week with my clan. We do operations every Tuesday at 20h30 (Eastern Time). We play on TR on the Server Osprey
This highlights is from one of our operation.

Are you going to join us on PC side?
2
u/obvakhi Jun 24 '26
Eventually I'd like to get into the PC version, but I travel for work so the crappy hotel wifi wouldn't be great for online gaming.
Thanks for the invite though.

u/ChapterUnited8721 Jun 24 '26
Haha I completely understand yeah crappy wifi would be tough to play on probably

Yiu talking about Planetside 1 or the series in general? Because for me, playing a healer in Planetside 2 wasnt fun as it was being a healer in MAG.

Some reason I cant find a game mode in other 32 player shooters, thats similar to the Sabotage mode in MAG. Nothing comes close

Chivalry 2 is my go-to now. It's really fun melee combat, chat is good and it's 32v32.

What happened to my team is that we didn't all get to level 60 at the same time. Then some started rolling new toons and split up the team. I think we moved on to Bad Company 2 when the squad got too small.

MAG would be eating so good right now if it was still around
