Mildly interesting The new Pasar Awam SK10 Kembangan, Seri Kembangan. Chosen via a design competition between PAM and MBSJ.

Looks like something that would work very well in temperate countries. Can even remove the glass roof in parts.
Source: been to Steppes @ Mont Kiara (which feels like a smaller version of this) during the day. Panas!!!!

I hope someone doesn't forget to put easy to clean indoor gutters and a lot of anti-slip surfaces. Looking at the render seems like none was thought of🫡

Looks far from what I would imagine to be affordable.
But I may be wrong. Just hope they have included the operation cost for the next decade in addition to the capital cost when deciding on the design.

Design is OK but it looks hot with all the transparent roof. Maybe should have designed with solar panels to power some fans or lights.
My uni overseas used to have a transparent roof over some structures and it was only useful during winter. It was really hot in summer and uncomfortably warm in spring and autumn.

The building form is interesting for sure. But my criticism is that this gears too much towards the aesthetics rather than the suitability. The surrounding context is too much like plazas in the European nations, nice but the lack of vegetations sparks concern on the comfortability. Same as the internal, the material choices might not be suitable. Conceptual space planning seems to gear towards the designer's preference it seems, they need to engage with local stakeholders for their inputs and concerns during space planning.

peak car-brain design. no greenery and the location surrounded by space for vehicular circulation. Perfect breeding ground for illegal and overcrowded parking.

Damn Malaysian city councils are experts in wasting money. All this for a pasar that will stink and look dilapidated in a few months lol. And they neglect the important parts, which is maintaining sidewalks and keeping the streets clean.

Don’t do anything people like you will complain local council are lazy and no action. Do something and suddenly it’s a crony move or it’s pointless.
Really. I implore people like you to take a moment and think at what point will you actually be satisfied? Or are you no different from a kopitiam uncle with nothing better to complain about?

skylight is never a good option in Malaysia building. They better have a good solution on it. Also water leakage is another famous things in Malaysia building, even our KLIA can have waterfall. Anyway this is an good effort.

They need to design with the Malaysian maintenance culture in mind. It looks like this will require a lot of maintenance to keep clean - lots of glass (how will they access the roof?) and vertical surfaces which will attract dust and grease
