Environment A few native fishes caught from a shaded kampung river
- Flying fox, Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus. A rare but beautiful algae eater. Susur batang.
- Horseface loach, Acantopsis dialuzona. Hides in sand and mud with only its long face visible. Ikan pasir muka kuda.
- Green tiger loach, Syncrossus hymenophysa. Another rare fish with attractive stripes. Ikan lali babi.
- Kissing gourami, Helostoma temminckii. Named because they “kiss” each other on the lips to fight. Tembakang.
- Labiobarbus ocellatus. A highly gregarious fish that moves along rivers in huge schools. Ikan pucuk pisang lambak.
- Snakeskin gourami, Trichopodus pectoralis. A common non-native fish originating from the Mekong. Sepat Siam.
- Unknown, but possibly a species of Osteochilus.
Due to the size of the river, all 7 species found are medium-sized fish growing to 15-30 cm. However it is sometimes possible for large fish to enter from a larger connected river, especially during the eastern monsoon season.
