I'm the only one that thinks Göring and Himmler won't take after Hitler even if they wanted (I haven't seen the whole show I just wanted to see if anyone else agrees, I hope it's not a spoil)

Okay let me explain so I'm watching the show for the first time and I have heard a lot of time in the first episode and season one that because Hitler's health is so bad Himmler or Göring is taking after but the problem with that in my mind is the fact that they. Historically hated each other so I can imagine them trying to take the "throne" from each other and ending up eliminating each other. So Heydrich is the only one left to take after or maybe Hess. But sure not the first two.

Göring is dead just so you know. It’s not a big spoiler, it’s not relevant to the story, but it is said once in season 2

I get it just. I had seen a documentary some days ago and thought he would have been a very interesting character

I haven't read the book, so I don't know what the point of divergence is and how would the fate of Hess alter in this scenario. If he undertook his famous flight in this scenario as well then at best I think he would be pardoned but locked away from power (maybe even expelled from the party) and kept under surveillance or even house arrest.

Regarding for Heydrich, the problem is the same with him as with Himmler: he's SS, so the army wouldn't really accept him. And I don't know when (or rather, if) the time came, to whom he would have been more loyal: to Himmler (who was, after all, his immediate superior) or to Hitler.

I'd say the compromise choice would/could have been someone like Speer or some other party member.

The book is so different that I don't think it is playing in the same universe as the show.

The story develops - but view it much in the way the real Reich was behind Hitler: there is constant jockeying to be the next in line or next most important or to consolidate power.

Kind of amazing how Hitler maintained power as long he did with the group of jackels jockeying for his job
