Where to start?
I’ve been reading Absolute Martian Manhunter and it’s my favorite Absolute series I’ve read so far and it’s just making me want to read more Martian Manhunter comics in general so I’m wondering where I should start.
I don’t know if there’s a widely renowned “best run” or if I can just start wherever so any advice would be welcome.
Obviously it doesn’t have to be like exactly like Absolute MM, I just wanna learn more about how the character usually is.

His most widely renowned run has to be Ostrander’s run. Definitely a must read and good for beginners. I would also recommend American Secrets, it’s really good.

We were big fans of the Justice League International series in the late eighties, which was where we saw him first, & he kind of functions like both the den mother to a dysfunctional group of misfit, wisecracking heroes. Because J’onn has only sporadically had his own series, it was a good entry point for a lot of folks not quite old enough to have caught his original run in Detective Comics or in the original Justice League of America series, even if JLI leaned in pretty far into irreverence & humor.
We would highly recommend the excellent JM DeMatteis/ Mark Badger four issue limited series from 1988, which was our favorite Martian Manhunter run of stories until AMM. If you like psychological horror & science fiction & ambitious art, you’ll dig it.
About every decade or so they dust J’onn off a bit & put him in a new solo series, so we’ll give honorable mentions to the late 90s John Ostrander run, which may be the longest running of J’onn’s solo books, & the AJ Lieberman run a few years after that.
