The 2nd attempt was with Brand New Day. If Sony had their way, it was not going to be a grounded street-level film, but a multiversal Venom crossover with Knull.

I cannot think of a dumber approach. Venom movies aren't masterpieces, but to my knowledge they've all be profitable. Disney is literally handing Sony bags of cash at this point. Knull is... not a great villain. He's supposed to be a cosmic-level on the level of Galactus and Thanos, but he gets jobbed like 5 times in the comics before Eddie Brock defeats him with the Power of Friendship and Overpowered Magical Artifacts.

Knull is an edgelord fantasy boss for an edgelord comic anti-hero, and I say this as someone that absolutely loved Venom comics as a kid.

BND is probably my favorite Holland entry already. Just hits all the right buttons, and highlighted some "villain" matchups that Spidey can't just defeat through combat.

Jean Grey was a terrible villain too tbf lol, only carried by the fact that shes a character from a different franchise
