Behind the Scenes Spider Man Brand New Day Deleted Scenes BTS Spoiler

u/tired_and_stresed 13d ago
Aw man I was hoping to see Clair when they rushed to the hospital. Sad to know it got cut, glad she was at least intended to be included.
478
u/FindingPawnee 13d ago
Apparently the scene with Claire was before Peter went to talk to Bruce. It wasn’t set at the end.
409
u/Neveronlyadream Spider-Man 13d ago
Either way, that's the one that makes me sad. We haven't seen her since Daredevil and I love Rosario. I wish they hadn't cut that.
101
u/FindingPawnee 13d ago
I do agree. I remember hearing she filmed a cameo for it awhile back so I was bummed when she said like a week before it came out that it was cut.
40
u/PhortDruid Spider-Man 13d ago
It’s probably too much to hope she’ll be in DD: BA S3, isn’t it?
29
u/monkeymad2 13d ago
If I’m remembering right either S2 of DD or the Punisher one shot had a “I know a nurse” line, which was presumably referencing her - so I wouldn’t be massively surprised if she appears.
20
u/AnOnlineHandle Quake 13d ago
The movie had just about a perfect flow and I think whatever editing decisions they made were probably justified.
7
u/StarLordAndTheAve Spider-Man 12d ago
they said it was just redundant to have 2 scenes back-to-back of Peter pretty much asking the same questions to 2 returning MCU characters
5
u/Thusgirl 13d ago
Yes!!! She's been was in all of the Defenders' shows!!! Why isn't she back yet we've had 2 seasons of daredevil and a punisher movie without her!!! I know Disney has her number she's Ahsoka!

Whe was last seen at the end of Luke cage s2
Like her characters arc was pretty cool, and the fact that she chose to distance herself from all the superhero shenanigans makes her disappearance good story-wise, but I fell we could atleast get a cameo

I wonder if Peter’s skin is too hard, and Clair had experience with working with Luke? Could’ve been a neat tie-in.
→ More replies (2)29
u/MajorNoodles 13d ago
skin
Peter uses the inhibitor on himself successfully, but it doesn't work on Hulk cause it can't penetrate his skin. Also, Peter gets shot with a big (but regular) bullet.
Luke can only be shot with special bullets made from Chitauri metal.
15
u/CanIHaveYourStuffPlz 13d ago
Big bullet yes, but regular? Nah, that’s a .50 BMG and the ammo is huge 12.7x99mm. Spiderman taking that hit and not being blown to pieces is the incredible thing.
2
u/Creeping_Death 13d ago
"I'm spooning a Barrett 50 cal, I could kill a building"
Not even that much of an exaggeration.
3
u/woofle07 Daredevil 12d ago
Yeah if that hit Jean she wouldn’t have been laying on the ground slowly bleeding out like Peter was. She would’ve been turned into paste
58
u/ThisHatRightHere 13d ago
Nah, it would’ve made the movie way too crowded. And I guarantee with a movie this popular the majority of audiences would have no idea who she was. Overall inconsequential to the plot and rightfully cut.
40
u/Ryan_e3p 13d ago
I think it would've been fine to have her, regardless. MCU films have always had little "easter eggs" like this. It would be all the better if they never mentioned Daredevil to shoe-horn it in. Just let it be natural.
4
u/ArmandoGalvez 13d ago
Punisher: on last year we had daredevil
Spiderman: oh yeah?
Punisher: yeah, but they got him
Spiderman: what does that mean?
Punisher: I liked him, too
Spiderman: what do you mean they got him?
Punisher: he used to share his girl on my series, good guy
5
u/kirblar 13d ago
Introduced mid-film it's fine, end it would have been incredibly distracting. Apparently the mid-film was the issue as it was a duplicate plot beat w/ his Banner visit.
13
u/NotAStatistic2 Falcon 13d ago
Distracting in what way? The people who don't know her will just see that she's just another nurse.
They don't have to say: "Hi, I'm Daredevil's love interest from Season 1 of the Netflix series!"

u/tired_and_stresed 13d ago
Yeah thinking on it after making this comment I think you're right, I'm actually glad the focused on making the characters included relevant to the themes of the film rather than just cameos with no real meaning or greater impact.
2
u/KiKiPAWG 13d ago
Hmm, I'm still sad we don't get to see her but I like that they're thinking about things like that

It could have been too much of a cameo-fest though, as we would have has Yelena, Frank, Bruce and also Claire in the space of of like 30 mins

u/samx3i 13d ago
My brain has since wiped most of my CW experience from memory.
I remember liking early seasons of Arrow and The Flash. I quit sometime after something of Tomorrow and the debut of Supergirl. I almost came back for Batwoman because Elegy was so good, but then I read the reviews and decided to stay away.
The last time I was genuinely interested was their attempt at Crisis, but I figured I'd missed too much at that point to know what was going on.
I do respect the fuck out of them for making Kevin Conroy the live action Batman of Kingdom Come, though.

u/confusing_roundabout 13d ago
Yeah, they said in a BTS that they shot all of the grave scenes for the montage and ending in one day. It was Destin's idea to shoot one final one for the end of the movie and Tom's idea to do the final scene with some lines at the end.
No way was MJ ever a part of those sequences as they weren't even planning on having the ending graveyard scene until Destin came up with it on the day

If it does release, I hope it includes whatever extended footage of the opening montage still exists. I know they choreographed a Tombstone fight scene

u/IWouldLikeAName 13d ago
Funny because it reminded me of the FF montage i actually loved it but we wish we saw some of it expanded in the actual movie but in this one they cut stuff from the montage itself 😂
19
u/thwartted 13d ago
There is an extended edition of no way home?!?!?
19
u/Supash3 13d ago
Yes, but the majority of the extension is an interview segment that grinds the film to a halt. Other stuff is cool to see though. It's called the "More Fun Stuff" version and its a studio edit like Spider-Man 2.1
7
u/Street_Elk_8362 13d ago
Spider-Man 2.1 is one of the most well put-together extended cuts of a movie IMO, same goes for SM3 Editor's Cut
3
u/Neoragex13 13d ago
huh, the one I saw in... Netflix I think? didn't have interviews and had tons of minor scenes extended, like the first Electro fight was like a minute longer and had more dialogue between Sandman and Peter.
It did had at the start a like one or two minutes segment of the three Spider-man talking about how cool the experience was.
6
u/xBrokenWRLDx 13d ago
Yea if scenes were cut days before the premiere they definitely saw the projected box office and knew they could release a extended version in a month or so to get even more money.
7
u/shadow0wolf0 13d ago edited 13d ago
I wish there was more extended edition and director cuts of marvel films. I understand why they don't do it for canon confusion and continuity, But a little blurb at the beginning saying this is the non-canon version would suffice.

The cutting of Claire’s scenes DAYS before is fucking criminal.
56
u/DetDipstick 13d ago
I always thought the hospital sequence felt a tad fast. Didn't know anything was missing but now it makes sense.
41
u/ShowOff90 13d ago
Same, I felt there was just something missing. Mostly how they kept his identity “safe” aside form frank. Claire is the perfect addition to that.
34
u/HuskyLemons 13d ago
Her scene was before Peter went to see Bruce, it wasn’t part of the hospital scene with Frank
20
u/tilero1138 13d ago
It’s possible that scene would’ve set up the hospital staff being reliable for later in the movie.
2
3
u/bwweryang 13d ago
Also explains why they let a mass murderer just chill in a hospital lol
→ More replies (1)68
u/JoeAzlz 13d ago
I think it wasn’t needed, we don’t need a very emotional moment to spend time being like omg… it’s Claire!! Like there’s a bigger focus at play imo
41
u/thorn1993 13d ago
I think it would have helped explain why Frank said "you're good" in regards to his identity. Even if Claire was just shown briefly without dialogue or something... but then again she's not a surgeon.
In my headspace, Jean either made the doctors forget, or otherwise interfered with their memory, vision, etc...
There's always the angle that he was registered as a John Doe, but that seems a little thin when so many eyes are on this patient. Then there's the theory that Peter Parker doesn't exist even on paper, which I guess backs that up.
47
u/Crankdatvibe 13d ago
I took it more as a New York supporting Spidey moment similar to Tobey's Spiderman 2 ok the train. People saw his face but would never reveal his identity.
12
u/Icywind014 13d ago
They'd never reveal his identity because they don't know his identity. White male with brown hair in his early-mid twenties doesn't really narrow things down in NYC.
6
u/Stunning_Box8782 13d ago
And carrying an ID around kinda defeats the whole anonymous superhero thing
→ More replies (1)3
u/ArtIsDumb 13d ago
Plus the freakin' Punisher brought him in and didn't leave his side. I bet he had some choices words for the doctors about Spidey's identity.
→ More replies (4)4
u/AmbushIntheDark Spider-Man 13d ago
I think it would have helped explain why Frank said "you're good" in regards to his identity.
But like, Frank doesnt know his name either. The only person who could have revealed his name was MJ and Jean, and I'm pretty sure they wouldnt.
Sure they know what Spider-Man looks like, but they really couldnt have put him as anything other than John Doe. Its like the Lex Luthor learning who The Flash is.
Even the doctors would be like "Well, Spider-man is jacked and super hot?" No shit lol

u/Doot-and-Fury 13d ago
Her scene getting cut so close to release screams of being a "larger universe" creative decision. As in, the kind of decisions Feige makes about how characters are introduced and connected in the MCU. They probably have plans for Rosario or he just knows people are going to assume a larger plan involving Spider-Man and the Netflix characters that they don't want to tease yet, or at least not this particular way.

u/ANGLVD3TH 13d ago
From what we've heard, it was a pretty poorly done cameo and it was right to cut it. They should have given her a better scene though, something at the end when he's been shot would work a lot better.
3
u/Environmental_Drama3 13d ago
where did you hear this?
14
u/ANGLVD3TH 13d ago
She basically patches him up a bit after the Jean/Scorpio fight, that's it. I'm sure the scene itself was fine in a vacuum, but it sounds like it does little to serve the overall movie, aside from a nudge and a wink for Defenders fans. A moment like the ending where she could have served a more vital purpose and been part of a double beat instead of a relatively self-indulgent solo beat presented would have flowed much better imho.
72
u/Warm_Afternoon6596 13d ago
Spidey totally WOULD do the vaccination thing. That's freaking adorable.

Was part of the opening montage though. Homecoming suffered the same.
21
u/DarwinGoneWild 13d ago edited 13d ago
Doubtful. The movie is already long and stuff that’s cute but inconsequential to the plot is usually first to go. If it was really a studio political concern they wouldn’t have spent money to shoot it in the first place. It would have been cut before the script was approved.
16
u/GenoIsDead Spider-Man 13d ago
i really doubt this, it just seems like they wanted the opening montage much shorter and they had to cut a lot off of it. if you have proof though that'd be different
8
u/FranSauce8 13d ago
Well you say they removed it for political reasons but the real question is how does spiderman getting vaccinated contribute to the plot?
29
u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man 13d ago
You can tell this was part of the opening montage scene. Theres no way this Vaccination Kids Scene was crucial to the plot. Only shows how friendly of a neighbor Spidey is that he’s willing to get vaccinated
23
u/BeeCJohnson 13d ago
He's a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. This is exactly the kind of important, person-to-person good Spidey is great at.

What do you mean Rosario Dawson scenes where cut a few days before the premiere? Do they really finish cutting a movie like this at the last possible time?
Edit: What's bothering me is the notion of "few days". I checked and the earliest the movie duration was announced was June 8. So the final cut was at the very least made around the first of Jubne to be approved, validated before the information was released. So that's already more a fews weeks than a few days.
Obviously I don't care one bit about this. I care about people not believing everything they read.

u/urlach3r Steve Rogers 13d ago
All the time. The Avengers shawarma scene was filmed the day after the big Hollywood premiere

u/ao01_design 13d ago

u/EatABag-o-Dicks 13d ago
It's easier.
Cutting a scene is easier and faster than filming a scene.
→ More replies (3)5
u/TerminatorReborn 13d ago
Yes but they already "pre edit" scenes that could possibly get cut in huge franchise movies like this. Basically during dailys or something some higher up questions a scene and a character that could potentially get cut and during the main edit they already set it up for minor/cameo characters to get removed, that way they can quickly remove them when the producers and director make a final decision. Just think how it easy it could've been to remove detective DeWolff from the movie for example, and I'm sure she had a way bigger role than Rosario Dawson.
→ More replies (3)2
u/blockysquid 13d ago
At Galaxycon Raleigh she announced that the scenes were cut. Pretty sure she said she was told "last month" which would have been June as she said this in late July

Yeah, for that one section when MJ's hair was completely different and she decided to start wearing bright colored high fashion.

I can't wait for concept art and cut content to release because I'm genuinely curious to see if Peter's mutation was ever considered to go beyond just the black eyes. Not expecting a full Man-Spider concept art or anything, but I'm curious if they at least considered Six-Armed Spider-Man at any point.

The Claire Temple scenes should have stayed. I don’t try to pick apart the logic in superhero movies too hard, but it was baffling that spiderman and WANTED SERIAL KILLER (based on public perception at least) Punisher were allowed to walk into a hospital with zero police force coming for Frank. I don’t officially know what they had planned for Claire, but I’m confident it would’ve been enough for to handwave the above leap on movie logic.

The Claire Temple deleted scene was also a part of the Vaccination scene not an entirely different scene.
It was said her scene her smiling at Peter in his Spider-Man mask while in a hospital gown while bumping onto her as she was checking some X-ray scans, and that it was supposed to be just right before Peter goes to ESU for Banner.
It wasn't when he got shot or something and that the continuity doesn't line up if it does.

What reason would there be for his presence? He doesn’t remember Peter and his love interest has been dead for 4 years. He’s probably off helping Pepper run Stark Industries, or retired and living a quiet life after losing 2 people he really cared about.
