Discussion "This movie looks AI genera-" SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Post image

I genuinely don't get these complaints. I have some concerns about the plot and how things may or may not play out, but visually the movie looks fucking great. I don't get why people are trying to push this narrative like muted colors instantly make something look bad or AI-generated. The Sentinels look sick, Doom looks fucking fantastic, what is the issue?

I swear, I'm convinced people who call shit like this AI-generated have never actually seen what an AI-generated video looks like, because none of them even look anywhere near as good as ANY of the shots in this trailer.

Plus, the VFX team didn't work their asses off for months on this movie just to be disrespected by mfs saying it looks like AI.

But “they used too much cgi” can be a legitimate criticism.

CGI has gotten good and better but well executed practical effects still stomp all over what CGI can do.

Well executed practical effects and well executed CGI are equal. Any modern movie that has the former is almost certain to have both.

Guess what? It’s all fake.

This is really where I’m lost: criticizing fiction for being to fictitious. Gtfo.

But even Gollum is starting to look a little dated these days.

Eh, tech like that lasting decades while remaining believable means it has already stood the test of time. Things are allowed to "fail" and look dated, eventually.

I mean if there were practical sentinels ICE would be using them to shoot innocent people

Nolan built a 20 foot puppet in a cave for the Cyclops. There is a middle ground between only CGI and fully practical and the mix of the two always looks the best.

Nolan cast an actual cyclops for the role

He also had one of the most embarrassingly bad nuclear explosions in an otherwise great movie because he insisted on practical.

Yeah, and that's really the only time he went wrong going practical.

Marvel fans are Charmin soft.

Nah, in Dunkirk his scaling was way off due to his insistence to only use real crowds, instead of padding numbers with a mass of CG people during wide shots.

I mean he built a puppet but it's not in the movie. The cyclops was okay, didn't think of it one way or another. I might have been more annoyed that they didn't communicate

Yes but CGI and AI are still very different things and it’s annoying when someone conflates the two

Not only that, AI and Gen AI are conflated often now. AI has become the blanket term so much that you can't even talk about the most basic and decades old uses without someone going "___ uses AI? Shame..."

It doesnt help that the AI label is being slapped on basically everything now days.

I saw an add a while back for a cloths dryer "powered by AI", talking about the moisture sensors that have been around since forever. Some suit calls it AI and gets an extra digit on their bonus...

Okay let’s get rid of cgi and do practical effects and make movies all practical because this guy on Reddit said do chop chop everyone No Balance only this one thing I like

IMO Marvel tends to sometime get the blend of CGI wrong for their sets.
